Greetings all,

I just started playing Marvel puzzle a few days ago and have been having a great time. I made the grave mistake of starting to read the strategies on the forums and have wonder if I haven't completely screwed up my progress. I am currently pondering whether to throw money atthe game to fix what I believe to be problems or just restart completely. If I can recover what I currently have that would be preferred. First, a review of my roster and my current progress.

Progress:
Prologue - Halfway through Juggernaut storyline. Haven't started any events yet, but am interested in trying.

Inventory and Resources:
6 Character slots (all full)
1240 Crystals and 25 gold coins

Current Roster:
Loki Dark Reign *** - Level 15 1/0/0
Spider-man Classic *** Level 15 - 1/0/0
Wolverine Patch *** - Level 15 - 1/0/0
Iron Man Model 35 * - Level 11 - 2/2/1
Storm Modern * - Level 6 - 2/0/1
Moonstone ** - Level 6 - 1/0/0

Rewards ready to be claimed
Black Widow Modern
Venom 1/0/0
Juggernaut Classic 1/0/0
Venom 0/1/0
(4) Standard character tokens ready to be claimed.

Honestly, I am entirely unsure how leveling works in this game. I'm not sure if there is an invisible experience bar that I can't see or if characters progress based on where you are in the storyline. Without knowing how this works I can't determine if I should drop someone to bring in single * characters. I do know that my *** characters do not appear to be getting any experience or covers. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'd rather not waste time and or money without a clear direction to go with a team.

Thank You for your time,
Diz

You have a lot of 2 and 3 star characters for someone so early in the game. Were those lucky pulls, or you did you spend HP? You're only a third the way through the prologue -- too early to start despairing! But you need to spend your HP on roster spots and nothing else for the foreseeable future. Those 2 and 3 star characters are pretty to look at, but for now you need to develop your starter team so you can mine the prologue for its best rewards.

Leveling is done by pumping Iso-8 into your characters. You increase their max level by adding covers. Right now you should concentrate on Iron Man and Storm. And participate in every event to the extent that you can! You'll get a lot of resources that way.
  • Just for some extra clarity -- Iso-8 is what you're calling crystals, HP (Hero Points) is what you're calling gold coins. Levelling is only done by pumping Iso-8 into characters, which you do on the 'Train' screen. You add covers to get better abilities and the ability to level characters up further, but you seem to have that down.

There would be little benefit to restarting the game -- while there are better and worse choices, you can never really get yourself into a situation where you can't progress.

The trouble with 2 and 3 star characters, early on, is that it's not too easy to get covers for them, so you can't power them up, so they take up space that easier-to-develop 1 star characters could be in. I would sell off Moonstone (a not particularly powerful character who's easy to build up when you do start getting 2 stars a fair bit) and replace her with Black Widow, who's handy early on.

I second spending HP on roster slots only. The more you have, the easier it is to juggle your team. And enter events -- you may do poorly at first, but you'll get small rewards you can build a better team with, and so on.

    Leveling:

There's no experience bar, and no passive experience accrual. I wouldn't restart your game. Spend HP only on roster slots. (I'm still doing that, and my 23 roster slots only barely keep up, even after dumping a lot of covers for chars I don't want).

Iso-8 is essentially "experience currency." Each character cover upgrades a single character ability/skill by one star (in the ability menu). 3-skill (any star tier) characters max out at 13 covers. 2-skill (any star tier) chars max out at 10 covers.

If you're hurtin' for roster spots after selling Moonstone, I'd sell Loki as well. He's one of the weaker 3*s. I'd try to keep Spiderman (Classic), simply because he's (for now) possibly the most powerful 3*, and his covers don't seem to get featured much as PvP rewards.

  • All,

Thank you so much for the helpful suggestions. I understand the system way better after the detailed explanations. I went ahead and took your advice and I think I am on the right path now.

    Thank you!
