I have to rave about this creature and this support , does any body else use this and its ability landfall.

land fall at this point seems scary good...

I was curious to see what could be achieved playing with Retreat To Kazandu
and Zendikars roil, animasts awakening, among other cards. I am still playing with the other cards but the basic idea works and works well

It is awesome....

thoughts??

And I wanted an Animist's Awakening BEFORE they announced what Landfall did.

It's really good. Also plays well with:

    #combo

Problem is for me, I don't have several of these commons/uncommons, let alone the Hydra.

I have the Hydra but not Animist's Awakening which is THE card for ramp and landfalls. Hard to make Nissa as strong without it.

Strangely I'm only missing the uncommons and commons, I have all the rares necessary. RNJesus works in mysterious ways.
  • I've tested out the hydra since I was lucky enough to get it on patch day. I finally took it out of my deck today. It just really isn't as impressive as it looks. I feel like Zendikar Incarnate does what the hydra does better and more consistently 9 times out of 10. If you have room in your deck for both, that is fine, but if you had to choose one, I would choose Zendikar Incarnate.
  • I got the Hydra and it is pretty awesome. You need the Animist's awakening to really abuse the card, and I also run with Fertile Thicket and Retreat to Kazandu. This also fixes the problem of the higher cost for the Nissa 1 ability, since you are also generating more matches on average per turn. Also having Dwynen Guilt-Leaf Daen activating all the time makes for a crazy deck.

I'd love a Zedikar Incarnate, it'd go great with the mythic I picked up, it could replace my Colossus.

I may try the Dwynen Guilt-Leaf Daen in place of my Skysnare spider as the deck misses a bit of creature buff

Got hydra yesterday and tried including in my deck.

Overall is fine, sometimes op(I got one in play, three turn later it became 33/33 icon_lol.gif )
On average though it is not fast enough imo cause it needs animist awakening or NissasRenewal.png
    To shine.
In other cases you are better with old colossus.
You can use both but Zendikar incarnate is a better choice. Starts bigger and is easier to buff.

um ****, need that card... now. by itself its not that great 20 for 20 and gain life but the extra ability for landfall...hmm, plus if I can get it out for 10 mana...

Btw is not 20 mana for 20 mana is 20 green gems.

I cannot remember a single time that after casting this spell I did not unleash my whole hand right after XD
The mana gain is insane, is definitely much better and reliable than animist.
Only drawback is the initial investment being higher.
But the net mana gain is also higher for sure.

Also one creature interesting in itself, great with landfall is for sure

The resilience to death + defender meaning it will be most of time the first creature target make for an unbeatable wall icon_cool.gif

Hope I will get it soon enough

Oof, I want that Nissa's Renewal, and the Undergrowth...

I got a hydra on patch day and had the same experience; thinking of removing it, just trying to decide for what. It's nice, but it is duplicative of Incarnate, who does it a little better (2 colors and any match of them).

My problem is usually lack of cards in hand...may try to find a drawing card.

    Right now, I'm running with...
    Outland Colossus
    Zendikar Incarnate
    Herald of the Pantheon
    Honored Heirarch
    Oran-Rief Hydra
    Animist's Awakening
    Mantle of Webs
Sword of the Animist (may change this too)
    Nissa's Pilgrimage
Orbs of Warding (may swap for either Zendikar's Roil or Hedron Archive)

gosh wouldn't that be nice, with the current percentage of mythic drops having all those cards is going to be just about impossible.... I can dream. oh well guess I'll be playing as Chandra for the time being

My green collection is horribly ill-equipped for Rief Hydra but I play it anyways to change things up. Looking for landfalls instead of avoiding them.
