Calculating points in PVP

Does anyone know what the threshold is for losing points in PVP? I've noticed I hit a certain level, then start losing points like crazy, then it plateaus and I don't lose points for a few days. Then I am able to gain 1000 points or so before I start dropping again. Is there some sort of formula for how much can be lost?

There are supposed thresholds for when you become visible to other players, but YMMV in my experience. Some say you don't become visible until after you pass 400 points. In the Captain Marvel PVP, I made my initial climb to 400. I got hit several times until my score dropped to 307, and then the hits stopped coming until I climbed again.

It's hard to say for sure without testing further. Would I have gotten hit if I climbed from 307 back up to 350? I don't know. 300 does seem to be at least a safe threshold to float without shielding in the new MMR. I'd been able to hover around 500 before safely though too.

I suspect that it likely has to do with overall scores in your particular bracket, too. If you join a bracket really early when scores are low, you become visible sooner. If you join later and get a bracket in progress with higher overall scores, my suspicion would be that you will be able to reach higher scores before you start getting hit.

Anyone with more knowledge on the subject is more than welcome to correct or add to this as they see fit!

It's roster dependant with a decent levelled feature character
    2x lvl 166 3* that are boosted = around 500
    2× lvl 270 4* that are boosted = around 700
5* can be over 1k if you can get it out of queue hell.
    Your mileage may vary

Above about 750/800 MMR opens right up so those low roster people get exposed to everyone.

As per the poster above, your bracket also matters, how long left in the event, who the boosted characters are.

Knowing your floating point is valuable as you can plan your PvP pushes
