Am I doing something wrong?

Hi, I'm a maxed out 2* roster going on to a 3* roster. No champion 3* characters yet. So I'm playing PvP and trying to finish as high as I can to get 3 wonderful 3* Cyclops covers. I'm trying to "shield-hop" by fighting 11 hours before the deadline, then shielding for 8 hours. Then 3 hours before the deadline I fight again, thinking that's the right strategy. So here's the problem. I was in 7th place when I broke my shield to fight with 3 hours left in the tournament. So I'm spending a ton of ISO looking for guys with 40 pts at least. In rare cases I find a guy who's tanking and I fight him for 75 points. Anyway, when I finish a battle and I win my points, I come back to my game and I've been attacked so many times I lost over 100 points! So after an hour of fighting and trying to regain all those lost points, I ended up around 10th place before raising my final 3h shield. So after all that fighting and stress, I'm 3 places LOWER than when I started fighting!

So my question is: Is there any point in me even fighting when there's 3 hours left and I'm in 7th place? Should I just have raised a 3h shield immediately after my 8h shield ended without fighting?

YOu should look for new targets before the shield drops, hit them fast and then reshield. The longer you are unshielded, the more attacks will come in.
Above all, plan ahead and stick to the plan. If you say to yourself "maybe just one more fight..." you increase the risk of losing points significantly.

Your problem is, that the higher you climb the more you are worth to others and to compund that further, your 2* teams are extra incentives over stronger teams with the same value. Your best plan of attack, is to snipe late brackets. Don't bother spending HP on shields, save them for roster slots of the eventual 3-5*. Start the event within the last hour (however long it take you to climb as high as you can till you run out of health packs).

When you have stronger 3* teams, then change up your strategy to hit the 1k progression rewards.

How many fights should I do in between shields? One or two? How many points should I look for? 40? If I find one guy that's 50-60 points and I leave him in my node and wait for one hour for my shield to wear off, will the fight still be worth that same amount when I actually fight him one hour later? (I've noticed sometimes I do not get the same number of points that are advertised at the beginning of a match. Sometimes I get much less and I feel ripped off. And no, it's not a retaliation match)

Interesting. Ok, I'll try that. How high can I reasonably finish in the standings with this strategy?

As many battles as you can possibly fit in 7 mins. Any longer and you will get hit. As regard to the point values, it depends who you queue up. If it's a pvp vet and they are climbing higher, they will be worth more and a safe target since their value won't drop compared to a random.

It all depends if there was a fresh bracket at the end
  • Ok so I tried entering a versus event with only 1 hour left before the deadline. I fought hard for 1 hour and finished in 30-something place without spending HP on a shield. Not bad. Is there any suggestions on getting even higher placement? Such as using a shield?

It's not enough to just join a late bracket, if you are going for placement you have to make sure the slice is one thats more often than not dead.
If the bracket isn't filled with contenders and you join late, you'll be rummaging through people whom probably joined to get their daily reward.

I know because when there's a cover I want I'll usually dip into slice 4 with about an hour left and grind the axe on people who either just joined or forgot.
Since no one in those brackets really pushes hard, I end up climbing from 200th or so place up to the top 10, and one time I managed to sneak just past the first place and steal that juicy cover.

Like the others have said, only in the right situation in terms of a fresh bracket and luck will you get top 10 for 3 covers.

PVP is all about what roster you have and fighting quick. Honestly the only way to grow with 2* maxed is DPD, PVE(which adjusts for your level and late joining PVP.

PVP is rougher because it's about what roster you have and your place in the hierarchy. It's a ladder, and 2* teams typically won't finish well in events that have full groups of people paying attention.

    Here's what I do...

Dont join event until 6 hours left. Climb to 650 or so. Then wait until 1hour left and win as many matches as you can and either shield or risk it without.

Typically you'll finish t50 at least and around 800-1000 points depending on roster level. Oh and you'll always gain on hp since the only shield you'll ever need costs 75hp

    Hope this helps
