Putting Test PvE Placement in Perspective

  • I've done 7 clears on each node through sub 5, no more, no less. I'm currently in 22nd in my slice (S5) and hit full progression at the end of sub 5.

I'm in s4 I think and I missed first sub. Have got all the rewards so far and currently sit 4th with 115k points.

since everyone on this forum says they are not playing some are obviously not being entirely honest because otherwise there wouldn't be so much competition forcing you all out of t200.

Maybe some here are being hyperbolic. I feel pretty confident in saying 5 clears per sub would easily make t100 in these test events. And the next time one comes around I will test this and post my findings

I don't care, like the new system, feel sorry for you if you're going for placement, but better just for progression. Hope this system get implemented soon. It is very nice to play at anytime without looking my watch and telling me is time to play MPQ.

It took me six clears of eight nodes on days 2-6 plus some amount of clearing on day 1 to hit CP and I definitely noticed a drop in participation. I was top 400 the first few days--I'm going to be right around 100 for day 6 without changing my play amount at all. It might be burnout but I think a lot of people just wanted to make sure they weren't 50k in the hole for CP come day 6 and 7. If the devs had said day 1 that it'd take ~5 clears to hit CP, then I think we would have seen a lot more scores in that range.

Thing that puzzles me is why usual performance in terms of grinding is apparently delivering worse placements in a PVE that has undesirable rewards...

I fully understand that new character releases etc generate the extra focus... do I don't even try to compete, happy to simply try and get a very late bracket snipe (a practise I would rather wasn't feasible, but will attempt to abuse while it is)

But if 6/7 clears per node is "too much" why are so many people obviously doing it...

I have comfortably on track to get 25CP by end of Sub 6... but am roughly ranked 70-80ish at the end of the day if I hit the sub 5/6 times per node... which is way more than I ever would have done historically...

Is this a symptom of the revised scaling?

or is it event specific because people are better equipped to hit nodes multiple times (Great character selection: Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Hulk Buster, Red Hulk, etc)

What is actually causing so many people to hit nodes 6+ times given that the grinding more than previous PVE events is possibly the single biggest complaint people make on the forums? (that and awful rewards lol)

My guess is that removing the psychological barrier of the timer has made more casual players say to themselves, hey I can just jump in and get a little more iso and some extra rewards with no penalty on the timer. Then when they see how easy it is to hit check marks they are just putting in a little extra time to farm everything.

The scaling is much easier on this test, easier perhaps than even the old style of PVE on the harder nodes. The hardest nodes in the old system used to wipe me completely out of healthpacks. Here I am clearing everything down to checkmarks usually without hitting 0 on healthpacks.

My bracket's top ten is still mostly 4* and 5* guys doing the grinding with a couple of 3*s and one 2* bringing up the rear. I did join a relatively fresh bracket in slice 5 though. #1 has 157,035 and #10 (me) has 112,461.

It's gotta be this. All these people happy to be playing "when they have a few minutes here and there" can't be worried about placement and they could have hit progression under the old system by ignoring the timers and putting in half as much time as the new one.

If you were interested in progression rewards only and were setting 8 hour timers for playing MPQ, I have some bad news for you:

    You were doing it wrong.

I never once tried playing the old PvE style optimally and easily hit the top progression rewards either on the second to last or the last day of the event, no matter how long it ran (except Webbed Wonder, I was close to being able to play it optimally because of schedule oddities). Sometimes I pushed it close and needed to grind out more than normal on the last day, but it was still pretty easily doable.

Oh, and the old system made placement dramatically easier even for someone who didn't time playing. T100 even in new character events was a walk in the park as long as I pushed for top progression. It would usually net me around ~60-90th place depending on the bracket and the desire for the new character.

10th place in my current bracket has 40% more points than the top progression reward. This "new" system sucks.

Here is another feel I had from this PVE. I tried to do a coupe of subs more like I do a regular PVE which is 3-4 clears and enough of the hard nodes to get the CP. when I did my 3rd clear since I spread it out like a normal PVE became very unmotivating because I would not rubber band up the score board. This made it feel like I was not really progressing in the event and having the potential to place. If I did more clears up front I would have been sitting higher but after a clear barley moving in placement made the event feel less worth while

You can already do this with the normal system /facepalm

Progression took a lot more time with the new system thanks to the scaling.

It sucks in several ways but that ain't a new one. In the 8hr/clear setup, top scores are 150–250% of the max progression, depending on the event and where it's set. There will be plenty of players hitting 200% of the progression on this one as well.

Oh no doubt that some players are more insane than others, but I'm not used to this type of grinding by any stretch. Maybe I'm delusional, but I don't recall needing to grind as hard as I would have for T10. I finished in the mid 70k range for Webbed Wonder. I guess I probably just don't pay enough attention - that's more likely.

My T10 is currently running 180k-210k. I don't have any idea where the cutoff is for T100 at this point because I'm not even trying on this one, but I suppose it could be around the max progression range. Mr. Failtastic and Falcon aren't high on my priority list for the 4* transition to help with this test... go figure.
