In what way does other people spending money make it so you don't have to? My observation of the game makes me think the opposite is true: other people spend money on the game incentivizes devs to design the game so you *do* have to spend money on it.
The game doesn't get more fun because other people have spent money on it. And if it's true that the game wouldn't exist without people spending money on it, it's also true that the game averages more than $1 per day per user and that tens of thousands of people play the game, which works out to a minimum of $7.2 million dollars a year (and probably way, way more than that). If they spend a $1M/year on game development, color me shocked.
They are not investing into the game. Stupid flaws exist that don't have any justification for existing, like having an unsortable roster. Unplayable characters without a role in the game don't get tapped for redesign. The distribution system is randomized and lazy. These are all symptoms of an understaffed, underfunded design team.
We aren't talking about a company that isn't making money, and we aren't talking about a game which is free of obvious , easy-to-fix flaws. The fact is that the money being spent by the company has hit its ceiling, and any extra money being spent by players is going into the money pit.
You can't make the argument that the game is improving in any sense because of people who spend an inordinate amount on it. Those people are just being taken advantage of. And the rest of us are receiving a poorer quality game because of the lack attention our demographic gets, thanks to the sucker whales.0 -

Really struggling to see where about in this thread you got that quote from. My point was that paying to not play is sheer stupidity yet the player base lap it up. Whoever manages to sell that idea deserved a huge raise and promotion.0 -

My contribution to the game is that in some way I keep the spenders motivated to keep spending. When the game goes off line, I will have no regrets over the time spent here.0 -

People who think they're going to get a date with a breastplate wearing Kate Upton if they pony up enough cash.0
