RETREAT
RETREAT

Ok so this may be a bit long winded but i shall try and make as much sense as possible. By reading these fine forums for the last 2 months i have seen many posts about "the best way to tank" and i have a few things to say.
Firstly, from what i gather the best way to tank is in lighting rounds, by getting the first few progression awards while keeping a seed team in a node, then defeating said team with a weak team of your own. Also works in other pvp tournaments. Fair enough that works, but for me once i do that and begin a new round/tournament, after like 3-4 games i begin to face tougher enemies again. So i stopped tanking for awhile and kept winning and winning matches,to the point where i started of the new BP tournament and no matter how many times i skipped i was still facing level 85's and above,so i decided to try something new,RETREATING.
Now to begin, i tried this method over a month ago, a few times actually and it worked. So i decided to test it out BIG TIME.
After the brotherhood event ended I had nothing to do in the game for over a day so i decided to go back to SHIELD TRAINING. I had over 1000 points at this stage. I got my guys ready, went into a match, and retreated. Over and over again, and then some more. Until all my guys were DOWNED. I lost points, alot of points, where right now i am on just 36. Now this took alot of time as the lower i got,the less points i lost. I did this probably a couple hundred times until I got bored.
Back to the lightning rounds. Now when I start one of these I face nothing but seed teams for at least 10 games, and when I do come across a higher rated team, I skip them and its back to low level teams. Now I could have placed well in them but I chose just to get 150 points and then win with my tank team to get more losses. While I waited for the event to end I went back to SHIELD TRAINING and retreated some more.
Then I went to the BP EVENT and where once no matter how many times I skipped, all my matches where high level guys, now they are level 15-40's and if I come across a tough match, I skip, and its back to low levels again. So now I figured that I shall win a couple games in shield training and get 100 points, then just before a new event starts, go back and keep retreating in shield. Then face some easy games in the new event, and just repeat. It's been working for me which makes me think your MMR is based on your OVERALL win/loss ratio.
Anyway sorry for the long post, just wanted to share my experience:)

I've been facing a lot of seed teams in the LR today too. And I didn't do a lot of skipping prior. Likely just jumping in when a new bracket is formed. Luck of the draw.0

I got mad last week at the hero lightning rounds because several of my hero's are pretty supbar and my MMR literally gave me all 130+ or max opponents I couldn't even reasonably win the first progression award so I did some TaT style tanking as well after winning my seed games the next round. I saw some fluctuation in levels, allowed me to actually play in a few rounds later and got my first 2 courageous tokens. Both IM40, needed so whatever. If you enter the second the tourney becomes open you will get the full gambit of seed teams, if you don't you will get none.
The fact MMR is flat representation that does not take in account different tournament environments is so aggravating. I will dominate a buffed Patch tourney but switch to GSBW and the lvl 18 useless cover will be quite the dead weight.
It does not surprise me that you can take this to the extreme and bring yourself down to minimal teams. Would greatly enhance the net gain of ISO as well.
This is what strict MMR and Skip Bonus/Tax breeds. Cant reasonably play the game? Lets bend the system until it works.
Currently I am on my 3rd round of Seed Team beat down in Speed Evil, still seeing x3 100+ Villain teams.0 -
It's nice to know that offensive losses figure so large into the MMR calculation. I suspected they may carry more weight, since I had a bad cascade and lost then it seemed like my opponents were easier for a while. MMR still seems like a weird thing to me, no matter what, since you don't play your own team on defense. MMR would seem to be a measure of player skill, but since the AI is equally terrible at playing your team no matter how good you are, keeping track of a player's proficiency seems weird.0

Extremely stupid game, right? But it works and really doesn't take that much time -- in fact lot less than you lose bashing down 10k extra health in top opponents. And even more in healing afterwards.0

I only saw one seed team in 2 LR. Is this punishment for me being in top 50 in BP PVP?0

Holy minikitty.
I got terribly bored of retreating after dropping 100-120 points in SHIELD Training. And yes, MMR is based on overall win/loss.
I've been tanking every LR that I can get seed teams for (after hitting 100 points), and my BP PvP enemies seem to hover around my own level. Within a few skips, I can almost always find one whose non-BP chars average 10-15 levels below mine. Holding steady at #4 in BP PvP for now.0 -
hell for most of us at the top levels we dont care about who we face as much as how much they are worth. I really wish they would do away with MMR and just base matches on how many points that a team is worth.
Because right now as things lie the top level/mmr players get screwed on possible targets because there are so few of us where at the 85/85/85 teams are likely the most likely to always have targets worth point due to the this is likely where to majority of players reside.
TLDR: bell curves suck lets make things linear0
