No damage??

Afternoon everyone, I'm Newb to this and I have a question. How in the bleep bleep icon_e_wink.gif does a card hit with double it toughness take no damage, nothing, and looking at the board there are no supports that give it indestructible abilities and the cards in play do not as well.

Usually happens when going against Gideon.

    Hi there, welcome!

It sounds like you're talking about double strike, indicated by the split arrow pointing right on the card. Iroas's Champion [0] is the only creature that currently has this ability, available for white or red decks (Gideon or Chandra). What happens is that Iroas's is allowed to hit a creature that is attacking it first when on defense, potentially killing it before it can inflict any damage. First strike, the arrow without a split on the card, does this as well (Gideon has several creatures with this ability). Double strike allows Iroas's to hit twice, dealing eight damage.

However, Iroas's still only has four as base defense, so any attack like a spell that is over four damage will kill it. It's not indistructible, but it is hard to kill, which is one of the reasons (in addition to its attack power) that its mana cost is so high. It sucks to pull it out on Chandra only to have it instantly evaporated, or Jace shuts it down with -3/-6 first ability right off the bat. There are other ways to kill it.

It also could be that the opponent cast Enshrouding Mist on it - it gives "Prevent Damage" to a creature. It's a spell, not a support, so after it disappears there's nothing to show that the creature is indestructible.

This is true, my answer is a guess based on "double its toughness" EDIT: and "Usually happens with Gideon," since Chandra can play Iroas's as well.

The only card that i can think of that does this is "Iroas’s Champion." She has, what is called, double strike. If your opponent has zero creatures out or has a creature that doesn't activate her "Berserk" ability, she will attack the PW twice. If she attacks a creature, her first attack is considered "First Strike" and if she has less toughness than the defending creature she will attack that creature twice.

I hope this answers your question.
  • Appreciate all the answers, guess I should have been a bit more clear, lol. I don't remember the card names, will have to take note but it's happened with and without double strike, I done upwards of 24 points from 3 different attacks on 1 card with 16 toughness in 2 turns that I do remember, Knight of the white orchid, I believe it was.

So it's a good possibility it was enshrouding mist.
