When to start caring about 5*s

I currently have a couple of level 170 3*s as my best characters, and a handful of 4*s with 4-6 covers below level 100 (Ghost Rider being the most interesting of those). On a good buff day, my best characters are buffed to less than 270 but more than 255. There is a nontrivial amount of time when my most buffed character is at ~240, however.

Given that, I have recently opened a Silver Surfer cover (my second, actually, after having binned my first in frustration a while ago). Should I bother with it? I have barely begun the 4* transition and by all accounts it will take basically forever. I have little interest in competing in the 5* tier and I suspect it would impact my MMR in an annoying way. But clearly there's going to come a point where it's going to start to be more good than bad, and I'm going to be sad to be missing those covers. I just want to know how far away from that point I am currently. Any opinions?

(If you want to look at my roster, I'm in a guild called The Wirthy.)

I'd at least give it another try. and a scaling adjustment is supposedly in the works, so see if you can stick it out until that hits and then re-evaluate. if its too much and things become unfun, sell.

I say keep it, but be conscious that there is a MMR test coming up that will involve covers.....

My reasoning is that it takes very lucky pulls to get those 5* covers, especially with more and more getting released. Any you throw away will set you back once you do get to that point....and with bad luck you wont even be able to transition to 5* (not that you need to). Personally, Ive gone about 45 LT pulls without a 5*, so i started hoarding cp. The problem there is that I have very few ways to build up my 4* roster now....pretty much 1k in PVP and the occasional Heroic/Event token pull. Throwing away double digits worth of 4* covers did that to me though.

As someone who is around your neighborhood ( most of my 3*s are in the mid to high 170s) I say roster any 5* you get. The scaling won't mess you up at all. The weekly boosted 3* will be right around that 255 or above mark anyways. In some cases my 3*s are boosted higher than my 5*s. I use my lvl 255 2/2/1 Surfer all the time in combination with IF and Switch and have no problems at all beating the hard nodes in PvE.

Keep it. Even though you're not interested in the 5* tier at the moment, it will take long enough to acquire enough covers to make your 5*s viable that you should start now. The impact on PVE and PVP should be negligible.
  • Hey guys, first time writer, long time reader.

I have 2 covers for both Silver Surfer and OML, and it has made playing PVP, and occasionally PVE, almost unbearable.

My highest level characters are my championed 2* roster (6 champions between lvl 100-110). I am asking if it really would be a good idea to sell my 5*s. I can see that it would possibly be more fun for me, and would help me in getting 3* and 4* covers.

    Please help.

roster them and see for yourself how your scaling works out.

it will probably get noticeable harder, if you dont like it you can still sell them.

@courageousgecko: keep in mind they've said they're working on a scaling adjustment. but there have been multiple delays already, so not sure when it will actually hit. and not sure what it will look like. I'd hate to sell a 5 just to have a fix hit a couple weeks later that would make it more bearable. an OML with just yellow can greatly alter your abilities, especially in pve. just proceed knowing that a 'possible' fix 'might' be on the horizon.
