never seeing the pve event end rewards screen

last 3 pve events now, I do my grind at the end of the event, put phone to sleep/dark - whatever that mode is - locked or whatever; and go to bed. I don't power it down, but turn the screen off/lock the phone. when I get up and unlock the phone, the rewards have supposedly come through - I have the covers, but unsure about iso/hp. if the app isn't active on an open phone, can we not have it come through stealth with no notification when we unlock the phone the next time? with all the questions about rewards not coming through, I'd like to see it. I haven't remembered to try closing the app when an event ending was coming up, but I shouldn't have to do that, should I?

What kind of phone do you have?

When I come back after turning off the screen for a while, all reward notifications display. Galaxy s5.

iphone 6+ here. forgot last night to close the game out and didn't see the sub rewards splash. really frustrating.
