Stalled out / Card trading

Okay, so my current collection consists of:
5 / 24 mythics
34 / 49 rares
77 / 89 uncommons
83 / 84 commons

I’m not taking a ‘gotta catch ‘em all’ approach, but still there are cards I really want, roughly:
8 mythics
8 rares
1 common

Annoyingly, most of those missing cards are in the colors I really like to play (blue and red) and some of them are ‘key theme cards’ for those decks, while I have the cards to build very good decks for colors I don’t particularly care about (white and green). It’s highly diminishing my interest in playing the game.

I simply don’t have the time to play the amount of QB required to win non-3-card boosters (or for that matter really get crystals – seriously, who are these people racking up those scores?) and given the rarity of the cards I want, the chances of:
a) Getting a rare or mythic, and;
b) It actually being one of the ones I want.

Are really, really low. Definitely not worth spending ~$20 just to buy a fat pack which has a good chance to not give me anything new, let alone cards I actually want (I mean seriously - those prices are ridiculous).

However I do have 2 duplicate mythics and 18 duplicate rares which are sitting around gathering dust, as well as being willing to lose non-duplicate white/green cards so I can pick up blue/red cards I want.

Are we ever going to get a card trading system?

  • card trading would destroy their profit engine. the only i could think they might even consider releasing it would be if the number of cards topped 1000, minimum. then they could be reasonably assured that even with trading people would want more cards.

Well they keep promising that these duplicate cards are going to be useful - we're still waiting...

Are there really that many people, willing to spend that kind of money, for so few crystals? It's not like your money gets you very much.

On this issue, are there any (other) large, successful CCGs which don't have a way to get a specific card that you want?

Opening packs is great fun when you don't have most of the cards, but the more complete your collection gets the less fun it becomes. Getting the last card you're missing takes literally twice as many packs on average as the second last card. Maybe there's whales out there spending $1000s to buy the required packs for that last card, but for the most part I expect it's not worthwhile nor satisfying spending $ to get cards when the success rate is so low.

I think it's inevitable that there'll be a system eventually it's just a matter of them working out what they want it to be. My choice would be for the quick-battle rewards to be guaranteed new cards (when possible). Imagine how frustrating it would be playing literally 100s of games only to get a duplicate. The one time I pushed just for a rare and got a duplicate certainly put me off trying to do it again.

The problem with that system is that it just means the winners of QB events will just keep winning even harder the next time around, ad infinitum - effectively blocking the way for new players to get anywhere.

Whatever the solution is, it needs to be somewhat attractive for new/casual players, because the inevitable churn of players on game apps means that you need to be able to attract and reward people other than the die hards, otherwise your player base steadily diminishes until the game ceases to be profitable at all.

Hell, charge crystals for the ability to buy specific cards. It's not like crystals are that easy to come by any more and it would probably help drive their profits. Say rares for 100 crystals ($8 equivalent) and mythics for 250 crystals ($15 equivalent). That's a pretty good profit margin for a single card.
  • Maybe they can incoporate a trade in/change system. Where you trade in 3 unwanted rares at a chance for a Mythic or it returns a random rare or something.

  • How about 3 unwanted mythics for a rare lol

    More useful that way.

Yeah... Almost seems that way. lol. I think the casting for some of the Rares and Mythics is just ridiculous. I thought the idea behind it being a rarity or higher was because there were not many of them to go around? It seems like the rarer the card gets, the more pricey it becomes. I don't even think I use a rare or mythic in my decks because they are too costly.

Might be why I'm only an avg player icon_e_smile.gif
