High-level destroyable shields

Currently, shields protect against up to 340 damage. With Spidey, Mags, Capt. America, and others it's possible to get up to 1200 points of protection on the board. But that doesn't help too much when opponents are doing 3000+ damage.

Shields could be made stronger, but destroyable. Consider a 2000 point destroyable shield. It would only trigger for an attack over 2000 points, and remove 2000 points from that attack before vanishing. If two 2000 point destroyable shields were on the board, an attack in the range 2000-3999 would trigger the upper, rightmost shield tile. A 4000+ attack would destroy both. An attack under 2000 points would not be affected by the destroyable shield.

The destroyable shield icons could also be destroyed normally by matching.

First, opponents are NOT doing 3000 damage every turn. A 1200 negation shuts down all match damage in between, which is a LOT of damage over several turns. Second, 1200 negation of 3000 damage is a 40% negation of damage!!! Holy ****! You want more then that?!

I've seen attacks go as high as 11,000, which would one-shot anybody. Even a level 5000 attack renders most current shields pointless. Currently, there is no defense against attacks that high.

A destroyable shield, which only triggers for a high level attack, would replicate a common trope in comics and action movies. If you've seen a smoking shield tossed aside after a massive attack, that's the sort of thing I'm talking about.

If an enemy deployed a destroyable shield, and you built up BWGS's green, Magneto's purple, IM40's red, you'd need to choose whether to destroy the shield with a match first, or blast the one-time shield away with the attack you have.

If a buffed enemy Daredevil had a red trap somewhere, and the only match available was a red one, a destroyable shield could protect you from the 7000 damage attack.
  • Something that defends against only against AP-consuming moves could work, but it might be too limited in scope.
