activate

Can someone explain to me how activate works?

  • My understanding is that "activate 1 red" creates a circle around a red gem at the start of your turn (on a permanent) or when you play the spell. If you break that gem, the ability will happen. Activate 1 turn creates a circle around a gem, and if that gem is still there at the beginning of your next turn, the ability will happen.

Correct me if I'm wrong please - definitely not sure on this.

Activate is persistent until broken; you gain the benefit if you break it or your opponent denies you the benefit if they break it.

Activate Turn X just has a turn timer so that it auto-breaks if it is otherwise not broken before the number of turns occur.
  • In addition, the number (activate X) is how many different gems will get it. So activate 5 is much easier than activate 1.
