Ah yes, the old shareholder value issue. Yes, companies have to be profitable. The problem is that the most profitable way of pricing mobile games at the moment is free to play with in app purchases. People who spend money justify it to themselves by saying that 'the devs need to earn a living' etc. etc. but the model is basically destroying the creative games industry at the moment. There are a few good articles on it. I can only find one at the moment http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013- ... ee-to-play

FWIW, I put some money into this game a while back as I felt this game wasn't pushing the model too hard at the time and I wanted to 'support' the developers. Unfortunately that was when they shifted a gear. I got no benefit from the money I spent (mostly due to rebalancing) and almost all recent changes have made me regret spending the cash. I will never do it again. I wish this game had an up front cost instead of endless tactics that add very little gameplay but add a new route to drain money.

I completely agree with this. I hope to be proven wrong but I'm willing to bet this is the start of another money-making tactic. Marvel War of Heroes makes shedloads of money from alliances competing against each other for bragging rights over nothing and for digital 'cards'. I imagine this is the start of the same thing here.

Demiurge and D3Publisher have a responsibility to be profitable. It must be remembered that the people who make premium purchases subsidize the game for those that play for free. In order to justify the time they spend on new features, Demiurge must show that they add value to the bottom line. It accomplishes this by adding new features and implementing a way for them to be profitable and because of that we are likely to see premium features available for alliances.

I can understand they want to make money, not sure if it is their 'responsibility' exactly.
Premium Features are the beginning of the end for all but the hardcore, effectively closing off whole parts of the game foe=r the majority of players cause them to leave, these are people who may not be stupid enough to spend thousands of their hard-earned money to buy make believe purple crystals to improve a make believe hero in a make believe world but they are probably buying Hero Points to increase their Roster at least. That is exactly what I do and I have already spent as much on this game as alot of games cost when new and i dont mind that as long as it is fun. As soon as the biggest and best new features start becoming premium the game stops being fun.

There's a a lot of material regarding the ethical and social responsibility of businesses to be profitable. I guess it depends on your personal ecomonic views.
    • Can you accept that Governments need businesses to be profitable? Companies need to stay profitable to pay taxes (Demiurge is a small business, and small businesses carry the largest tax burden)
    • Can you accept that businesses require their products to be profitable? Company can't be in business if it doesn't make money. Shareholders or partners can invest money elsewhere.
    • Can you accept that employees need the company they work for to be profitable? Employees depend on the company for their income (including benefits)
    • Can you accept that the end users of said products need that company to be profitable? Consumers depend on the company for end user support, updates, warranties, etc.. Consumers need the product to remain profitable or it might be discontinued for a more profitable item.

You are free to have your opinion but I don't welcome it here. The ability to purchase ISO-8 is a feature. Please do not disparage those who make use of legitimate features. If you don't like certain premium features please contact customer service.

People don't want to spend $20 on a game. As little as $1 can mean the difference between someone installing an app or not, regardless of how good it is. People who install free games get to try and they have the option of enhancing their experience with premium content.
  • Back on topic, the mighty "Flappy Quinjet" alliance is so lonely, I know I didn't sell it really well the first time, but although not a progamer at MPQ but I do play daily icon_razz.gif

People don't want to spend $20 so FTP games should play on the psychology of addiction to get the right personality types to spend $2000+ on IAPs?
The experience is not often even enhanced, you just get a bit more digital 'crack' in terms of a bit more xp or another virtual character. There must be a better way.

Woah, back up there bugpop! Touched a nerve there i believe.

You dont welcome my opinion? YOU dont welcome my opinion? Who are you to either welcome it or not, no disrespect but this is a forum. My opinion was in no way meant to be disrespectful to yourself (unless of course you too have spent thousands on make believe purple crystals). i have made use of the feature to buy ISO-8 myself and I buy Hero points, I stated i have put money into this game, but are you really saying that to spend thousands on any game is the behaviour of a rational individual?

I am sorry if you took offense at my honesty but i really do not welcome your insinuation that my opinions shouldnt be on a public forum.
  • I just created the CareBearStare alliance. Daily player, but not a big winner. Midwest America timezone (don't even know if that matters). Created the alliance for Care Bears that want a nice alliance with no big pressure to place number one all the time.

You can also squat here if you are training to leave and join a better alliance in the future.

Finally, in the unlikely chance we are able to defeat a mightier alliance, think how humbling it is for the losing team to be bested by Care Bears.

I like your attitude, so I joined the care bears!

side effect, Flappy Quinjet is no more (I will lie to myself saying I dropped those 2500ISO on bagman).

I'm just hoping Alliances will eventually be a better way to share rewards than facebook, because I'm not "friending" a bunch of strangers and none of my real life friends play.
  • Long time lurker here...

Just a heads up that on those random reward screens where you could choose to "share with FB friends or discard" it's now changed "share with FB friends or Alliance Members"
  • War Nubs is operational.
  • Dammit now I need to join one if sharing is viable through alliances. Damn my name restrictions.

Time to delete my facebook account, which I just created for the game anyways!

For the sake of clarification I objected to your comment in red. It is no secret that since release I've regularly purchased premium content each week. I called you out for classifying those who purchase iso-8 as stupid. I said I don't welcome [that] opinion (again, in red) and I asked you to refrain from disparaging others. If you want to have a discussion on the rationality of purchasing iso 8 we should continue it elsewhere.

I'll chime in with a quick note on the highlighted text too - I think it's pretty childish to call people who spend money on a hobby 'stupid'.

As people get older, the ratio of money and free time one has flips dramatically. If people spend money to enjoy what little free time they have, then all the power to them.
  • Bugpop, you are right, this is not the place and i apologise to the OP for dragging his thread down with this.

One last clarification though, I did not call the purchase of ISO-8 per se stupid, merely the spending of thousands on it. i too have purchased it in the past and probably will again.

Also my phrasing may have been unfortunate, these people are probably not stupid, what i should have said is the level of spending is stupid not the person, we all do stupid things for something we love - doesnt make them less stupid though.
  • Not to interrupt the children bickering but I have a legitimate post regarding alliances... icon_e_smile.gif

Ok, Obviously 5 people to an alliance doesn't work. So what I am now working on is a Network of Alliance system, i.e. Sister Alliances. If you are interested msg me here or on FB. I will create a post In the General Category to coordinate sister Alliances since there is no Alliance section in the forums yet.
Benefits of Alliance and Sister Alliance: We don't attack each other on PVP tournaments (shield training is fine) and we focus on common targets if we are on same brackets (coordinated hits on de-shielded opponents, etc.)
Unfortunately the only way to coordinate for now is either skype, FB or the forums. If you are a member of my alliance 5DeadlyVenoms please contact me with your FB name. I will release the names of the first two sister alliances shortly. These Host lvl 100+ players only. I need an alliance with an Alliance that will cater to the 2* crowd, a junior alliance if you will. Obviously a network of 5 super Alliances can counter say, S.H.I.E.L.D and their super-elite crowd, or at least that's the intent. We will find out on the next elite tournament I suppose icon_e_smile.gif

    Thanks,
    Lord Klingsor
  • Still don't know what alliance to join or to start one. halps

This name doesn't come up in the search.
