Caltrop Damage Question

I've noticed that if I outright kill a Kishu, caltrops go away, which is cool.

However, if an ability fires (like Witch's Reality Crush), it in turn sets off a Match-5 and caltrops are tripped. Now Professor X's Master Plan kicks in, which generates enough damage to destroy the Kishu. However, the caltrops still go off, since it's tile match damage gets applied before Master Plan and then the Kishu dies (and I'm out 700-1000 hit points per person).

Is this the intended sequence of events?

It has always been that way, the tile damage is first.. including any traps set off.. yah, caltrops sucks, but.. i've come to accept them.. and that feeling you get when you can use GSBW purple, and not a single caltrop goes off.. what a sense of accomplishment!!!
