What exactly is "tanking?"

  • When you're shielded you're far, far, far less likely to ever come up on anyone's queue of opponents (people will still have retaliations against you, and some might have had you queued up to begin with).

So you probably won't have enough losses to tank this way.
  • This is great, I understand this now.

One question though: The tank team that I use in the lightning round, will that be the team that shows up in a separate PvP event that's running at the same time as the LR?
  • No, the defensive team for each pvp tourney is different and not set until you win a match (I'm not sure what, if anything, happens if you lose your first match).

So now that I've found the light of using shield training to tank, is there really any point in tanking lightning rounds any more? If it's really a win-lose comparison, it seems like it'd only be worth like 6 characters retreating to death

It's still less work, and after I finish the seed teams in LRs I'm at the "I could tank or I could keep going or I could do nothing" point, and tanking is the second easiest and probably most productive of those. I don't depend on it as much, but part of the point of it is to undo the damage you do to your mmr fighting all those LR matches to begin with.
  • I try the one that u said, i go to the training simulator and put my weakest team then fight then retreat before the battle starts. I repeat it for many time until my team was down but one thing I notice..why is that the hp of my main char becomes low evrytym i retreat my tank team? I mean they are at full hp then suddenly when my tank team was down their hp becomes low..hows that happen?

Still trying to understand this. Does tanking in the simulator battles presuppose that you've either already cleared the prize board, or you're not interested in them?

It's kind of agnostic on it. Generally, once you've hit a certain point on the SHIELD rewards, (say, 1000 or so), there's no point in going after higher prizes, given they're almost impossible to get to. Most people tanking in SHIELD aren't going after rewards anymore.

Thanks, that was helpful. I'd been under the assumption it was a progression you were meant to complete, like the prologue missions. Good to know otherwise, since it's pretty frustrating for a relatively new player to find a team you can beat without knocking your team out of commission for 3 hours.
  • So if you tank let's say in the prologue or story events, would that still affect your pvp mmr??

This thread is two years old. I think MMR was done away with a while ago and you are now matched based on roster strength. So I think tanking is dead.
That said, no, intentionally losing in the prologue or PvE shouldn't affect your PvP rating.
