How do you spend your Runes?

My collection is pretty nice already so buying basic boosters isn't all that appealing but in the same time I don't really see much need to further level up my Planeswalkers either so I'm thinking of just sitting on my runes until they release new cards or something.
So what do you guys spend your at? Booster packs or leveling up your Planeswalkers?

Leveing, I wanna hit level 50.
After that, probably packs or I'll hoard them until something new comes out0 -
The three card boosters are aweful, I save my runes for Planeswalker levelling exclusively.0

I reached level 50 Chandra and I'm going to get Jace up to 30-35 before I just start banking.
Someone has said that the chance for getting rares/mythics are the same for all cards, it's just that the more $$$ you throw down at once, the better the cost-per-odds since packs get cheaper.
If that's the case, I may bank about 25k (which will take forever) and then start pulling 3 card packs.0 -
last night i spent a couple thousand runes on the 3 card packs to see how they compared to the 200 crystal packs I pulled... I only got 1 card that was useful out of it. The rest were really just common or uncommon.
Back to leveling my PW with the runes. It can't hurt to pull a couple of packs here and there for runes, but I wouldn't spend too much on them.0 -

I wouldn't count on that being true. That's speculation, but it very easily could be higher chances to pull Rares and Mythics from each pack when you purchase the larger amounts. We don't know yet, and probably won't know until a Red answers it.
For the original question, in the very beginning I spent runes on the 3-packs, because it's easy to tell the cards are more important that anything else, and I was taking a chance. Got no rares from about 6 or so of those, but some usable uncommons.
Between crystals gained and those bought from the starter pack, I got enough for one fat pack. I got enough good cards from that, that I am not worrying about getting any more for now. I have since only spent them on levelling PWs. I use them in place of health packs really. I keep a couple thousand on hand, and when I need to heal, just level up instead. I figure I am planning on levelling them up eventually, why not save health packs in the process. Of course it would be more helpful if I played enough to ever run out of health packs otherwise, but whatever.0 -
I know most people say that the boosters are useless, but I spent 400 total on 2 sets of 4 packs. I got some very good cards and made a Light deck. I'm currently #1 on the leader board for quick match. So it might be worth it, if you want to create a powerful deck. I have 3 creatures that are very OP. one is the Relic Seeker [gives first creature +2+2 whenever relic seeker attacks the enemy planes walker ].0

#1 on the leaderboard is just a matter of playing a lot. You don't great cards to win the vast majority of your games. Your losses are more likely to be to bad cascades than overpowered cards.0

They will be releasing new Planeswalkers at some point, presumably even dual colored ones. They'll also be superior to the current ones or no one will buy them.
You'll probably have level the new ones. Hoard for leveling new Planeswalkers of the future.0 -
I spend them on both, boosters and leveing. Especially early on when you have nothing but the starting decks, buying a few boosters can be a godsend with a little draw luck.
I am however, concerned with running out of runes.
I'm slowly but surely getting to the end of the story mode, which is currently by far the best way to get runes. When I'm done with the story, is there another way to get more runes besides the 50 per battle?
(Ignoring the login bonuses and the rare occasion of getting more runes from a quick battle.)0 -

This is exactly why I plan on hoarding... eventually.0 -
Just wondering how much people have saved I'm at 5000 is that a good amount?0

5,000 isn't too bad. I generally buy the 225 rune boosters 20 at a time just so I feel like they won't screw me I'm case I might be tracking cards for statistics. Probably just paranoid.
Anyways, I recommend buying boosters or saving after you beat story mode. I have a feeling that players with low level planeswalkers and bad **** cards will dominate in the future.
A level 50 planeswalker will draw level 45-50 opponents, who likely have great cards, and will win 50 runes and 1 point each match.
A level 1 planeswalker will draw level 1-5 opponents, who likely have beginner decks, and won't stand a chance against someone with multiple rares/mythics/good deck building. Also, this player will win anywhere from 50 to 250 runes per match, and up to 5 points, allowing climbing to be insanely fast and easy, assuming in the future, 5 points actually gets you 5 points in the leaderboards0 -

My thoughts exactly. I was thinking it would be neat if there were separate events for different level planeswalkers, but then I was thinking they just need to tweak the MMR algorithm a little bit or bracketing.
For example, say you dominate an event with your level 2 Gideon. Next event, you are bracketed with 1000 players, all of who placed in the top 50, 100, etc in other brackets. Now you find yourself drawing players with level 45+ planeswalkers and decks with cards just as good, if not better, than yours. The problem this creates, however, is that people would begin to sandbag, or purposefully lose so they can dominate the next event.
So, if they mess with the MMR, allowing players to draw players with similair win/loss ratios instead, I think we would see more variety in event winners. Someone could still sandbag, tho

The 1000 player brackets are the problem to begin with, there simply isn't enough variance.
But I do not agree with your suggestion of grouping players based on win-rate alone. Planeswalker level is a difficult and in many ways new mechanic introduced in this game. Levels have a tangible effect. A level 50 planeswalker will in every way be better than a level 2 one even though I could probably beat a level 50 Nissa that has basic cards with my White deck. People who build good decks shouldn't be punished for it and card games will never be balanced in terms of deck quality.
That's why a seperate ladder for max level Planeswalkers is the best option in my opinion. Even that suggestion is not without flaws since each Planeswalker performs differently depending on their level.0 -
Well, there will always be a "best way" to perform, and right now, low level planeswalkers with high level cards seems like it will dominate. I'm sure we will see a MMR tweak eventually, but it will undoubtedly have flaws. At least there isn't a very apparent pay-to-win plot like there was with Marvel Puzzle Quest (paying for roster spaces, shields, covers), and a dedicated free player can keep up with any whale. As long as it doesn't become a game of who can pay the most money, I'll never complain about the system, whether I have to ride the same train everyone else is riding or not0

I actually had a 20 streak today with a level 8 Gideon because I pulled some mid level cards in. I use my runes to level up and my crystals for cards.
I am currently playing all 5 PW to see which I like best.
I have Liliana at 22, Nissa at 41, Chandra at 16, Jace and Gideon at 8 with 3500 runes in the bank.
I'm stopping Liliana (can't make her work for me at this level) and Jace for the time being, focusing on Gideon and Chandra, but still want to get Nissa up to 50.0 -
I bank 5k runes, then get 2250 more, spend up to 10 or until I get a rare. I keep getting the 2250 buffer until I get 3 rares or one new rare.
Then I bank 5k more and repeat.
So far I'm at 15k and a very solid deck.0 -
I'm hoarding mine. By leaving my Gideon at level 27 I got a decent challenge out of Story Mode, and I'm now finding some of the top ranked games of PvP challenging to play. I'd hate to make it all just really easy by levelling him too far up.
That's one of the things I've always appreciated about Puzzle Quest, is that you don't *have* to level up your characters if you don't need to.0
