Is PvP real?

I just played a bunch of Pvp matches last night and I had a few observations that made me wonder if I was playing human opponents. The first thing I noticed was that my opponents never paused. Everything happened right away. When I play I have to shuffle my hand, and occassionally take a few moments to find the best jewels to blow up. I never saw my opponents pause. Even their hand shifting was super quick, like AI quick. The second thing I noticed was that my opponents never went for 5 jewel matches, they only hit the four jewels when 5 was right there. It was something I noticed in the Story version of the game with the AI. These observations made me wonder... here are my thoughts on explaining my observations.

1) The architecture of the Pvp is so good that responses seem effortless and quick. Like my pauses somehow were just as quick for my opponent.

1.5) and/or, I'm actually playing against a person and people just miss the 5 jewel hits and just flick jewels really quick. Like, everyone always in 30 matches.

2) or, I'm playing against an AI using my opponents deck and they are playing against an AI using my deck (or some combo of this and #1).

3) or, It's a person-made deck played purely by AI.

4) I have no idea.

So, either the architecture is amazing in this game, or the pvp is not exactly what I thought it would be.

Thoughts?

  • if you arent familiar with Marvel Puzzle Quest, PVP is basically, you against an AI controlled real persons deck, the only true PVP competetion is in the rankings i assume this is how it goes in this game also, you are not actually playing against another person controlling a deck

It's probably similar to PvP in Marvel Puzzle Quest. In that, the AI controls the last team you used.

In this, I would guess the AI controls the planeswalker and deck that you used last. Probably the last ones you used to play PvP with (as opposed to the last one you played for Story, which might be different)
  • Thanks for the info! I never played Marvel. This puts a new spin on pvp in terms of deckbuilding to fight AI and the current meta. Glad to have my suspicions confirmed.
  • It's sad too, since genuine pvp in mtgpq would probably be the greatest thing I have ever had on a phone since having a smartphone.

Idk why they did not make it part of the game.

I'd agree, but that kind of thing is hard to pull off unless you have, say, 10+ people constantly waiting to be matched. The game's just not that popular now, however, if it does exceptionally well, it could work.
  • We can always hope that the "events" will be something along these lines..... Until they are inevitably dashed of course. icon_e_smile.gif

It's nothing to do with what you played last. It seems to be a random choice of PW and deck from all players at roughly the same level as the PW you are using - possibly picking only from your bracket, I don't know.

If you consistently play a low-level Gideon (for example) you will get Nissa as your opponent 90% of the time, usually with a green starter deck.

    "PvP" is a misnomer.
