If one of the requirements for some of these battles is using amount of turns (less than 10, more than 15, etc.) than there should be a way to see how many turns you've already taken in battle.

nevermind, I just found where it is. You have to pause the game, which shows what objectives are in that fight, as well as the progression towards those objectives.
