You don't join a main bracket until you select an end time. The amount of people in your bracket should be in a red band above the black band that states how much time is left in the event. It is easiest to just check the last post in the thread, to see what the latest info someone has provided. If the time zone settings in your user profile are correct, you should be able view the time the person posted, to see how current their info is. There is a possibility of multiple brackets filling side by side, so join a "fresh" bracket at your own risk.

Useful info to provide

1)Time slice you are in
2)Current amount of people in bracket
3)Leader in bracket with amount of points
4)Time you joined the event, if it was not right before posting in the thread.

Slice 4 vet is fresh and currently has ~80 players with 5 hours to go in day 1.

A full clear will get you 2866 or 2869, which is what most of the top 10 currently has.

Slice 3 vet/hard is now at 709, leader is hector83 at 35442. Whisky 1887 and ScOville also in top 10.

I think this could fill before the end, but it's not filling fast with about 46 hours left. I've been playing rather lazy the past two subs and I think the LT is not within reach for me with my current effort of playing 3 times and one more clear in the last hour or so (which got me top 50 last sub, so very relaxed compared to the previous event, thank god...). Can't be bothered with LT this event, some IRL stuff to do and already joined quite late). I'll try to update once more in about 12 hours.

Edit: About 24 hours later and this bracket is now up to 830, same leader now at 64k. I guess this won't fill before the event ends.
