The issue with boosted characters

I've been playing this game for a little more that 120 days now so I am transistioning in the 3 stars land. Therefore I softcap my three star so that when boosted they are level 150 (same as boosted 2 stars) while waiting to have enough boosted characters.

But lately I feel like I am being punished for leveling my characters to that point and in no other game progression mean less fun: The issue is that (lets take this week event as an example) colossus is an essensial and is boosted to lvl 198. This obviously scales my node to a very high difficulty considering my collossus is 4/1/2 (therefore no damage), and I am stuck using lvl 108 characters or even less if I want to beat those node (take note taht my other bossted characters are way undercovered and are useless even if boosted to 121).

I feel like every step I do in building up my roster is beingresponded by the game by increasing uneveanly the difficulties of the nodes.

Why do boosted characters even exist, shouldn't you be using only the roster you have hard sweat into? In the past event, my boosted characters were a bit more uniform (meaning 3 boosting characters were usable), but still, why is my roster limited to 3 charcaters to do the harder nodes (the boosted ones) while I have about 10-15 others that I technically could use (but considering they are not boosted, they do not last long in those last difficcults nodes). Not even talking about the healthpack issues if you use only 3 characters....

Not only that, the boosted characters do not always have synergy together and for really hard nodes I find myself having a lot of difficulties (looking at you rise of the rider in which none of my boosted characters were usable in the none and I was stuck trying to find a good team of non-boosted characters (I failled just so you know, most of my tries resulted in me dying without even firing more than one ability)).

In resume, boosted characters lowers your roster, your possibility, your FUN. Why do they even exist, I feel like I'm building my characters for nothing.

Boosted characters are fine. It helps people use characters that they aren't use to using all the time and sometimes helps finding new teams that you can use them with. The problem is that the boost works against you in the scaling equation. That is what I don't understand. The whole point of having a boost is to make a node easier, but instead, we are being penalized for having them leveled. It might be that the devs are using this equation to force us to level all of our characters, but that doesn't make sense because of the ISO shortage that they have caused. In conclusion, boosts are good, just take them out of the scaling equation.
  • scaling should be done before boosting the characters, not after.

I love them now that I have 2 five stars and my highest regular characters are 3 star 140s. Getting those guys boosted to 175-200 helps my scaling greatly.

IceX posted that boosted heros do not affect scaling. Scaling that is based off of levels is done prior to the boost. That being said, winning with little hp loss and ranking high in previous pve's will make your scaling skyrocket after a time. Levels though have very little to do with it.

Ice also said that 5* characters wouldn't affect the scaling. I think we should take what they say with a grain of salt. We have all seen starting nodes a hundred levels above our base highest characters which just so happens to be 20 to 30 levels higher than the boosted characters. 100 levels above mine would make it a hard or deadly node, 20 to 30 levels makes it normal. I rarely see hard or deadly nodes anymore since community scaling went away. So, my belief is that they base it off the boosted character.

the game was pretty stale before boosted characters. with no boosts, really only about 6-8 characters (3*s) really matter. boosting gives the other characters value when they didn't have any before and you see much more diverse teams in pvp now than before. it also promotes rostering all the characters which helps d3 with roster slot hp usage. boosteds aren't going anywhere and I don't think there is a groundswell of support for it to be changed.

I use boosted characters in pvp all the time if they are good. On pve however I rarely use them because they are overkill. I only bring them if I have trouble beating a difficult, scaled node but part of my fun is completing the event without ever using boosted characters.

But at least 3 boosted characters are essentials in every PVE. I think that is what the OP was getting at. If you have everyone leveled at 94, or 166 or etc because your 4 star (3 star player) or 3 star (2 star player) character is now boosted way above any of your other characters and your scaling goes hay wire...just like it has for 3 star players who have rostered 5 star characters.

In my experience the essential character nodes have never gone out of control in terms of scaling. I usually bring partners that are the same level as the enemy and that has been enough so far. Actually, those nodes tend to start at a lower level.

You're using a solid strategy by capping your roster and leveling them evenly. You're facing the difficulty increase upfront because you are leveling them before you have all the covers. The good news is the ai is going to stay the same level while you get get stronger as you collect more covers. Pretty soon you'll be smashing everything ezpz. A ton of players do this.

I actually did not start powering up my 3's until I had most of them covered and I did not start increasing my 4's unitl I decided to get covers, so scaling hasn't gone haywire for me much except when I leveled half of my 3 star roster to 140 and the other half was at 120 mainly because of iso shortage. Once I built my ISO up, I leveled the rest and it was back to normal. But some players who aren't part of the forums until much later are not aware of this problem. D3 does not give them any hints that if you level your undercovered 4's or 3's depending on where you are in the progression, it will hurt. Having a undercovered high star character leveled to the same level as your highest 2 or 3 star (again based on where you are in the progression), this will make your nodes scale much higher when that character is boosted (I understand that essentials aren't as bad but 1 to 2 nodes which are marked normal are going to be hell because of it).
