PVE Scaling Observation

Please ignore and forgive me if you already know all this.

Scenario1- You win a battle with very less damage/match damage only or do a flawless victory against goons.
Result- You are screwed and your scaling goes up and your next clear is going to be harder.

Scenario2- You have taken almost 50% damage and have a healer in your team (obw/beast etc) then you heal yourself and you win a battle close to full health(although it is not true healing and you will need health packs)
Result- Same as scenario 1, you are screwed.

Scenario3- You win a battle with one/two downed characters. Or all characters taken lots of damage.
Result- Your next clear will have same levels as before. Scaling may even reduce if you get wiped a few times or have just snatched a victory with your last character left at negligible health.

Scenario4- You go into a battle with all three of your characters at very less health and manage a victory even without taking any damage.
Result- The game thinks as if you have taken damage and you have result same as scenario3.

Moral of the story- End the battle with significant damage if you want to keep a check on your scaling.

If you are going into a goon battle and you know you wont take damage, it is better you take your characters at low health into the battle and win it like you usually do.

Thanks for reading my article.
I know scaling mechanics are going to be changed soon.
And this post is irrelevent to you guys who anyways grind the nodes down to 1.

Are you sure about scenario4? I think that's another "you're screwed" outcome...

I don't think the game looks at health out vs. max health. I think it looks at health in vs. health out. don't know that for fact, but that's what it seems like.
  • So taking weakened true healers into a goon battle to heal them up while you win is doubly damning eh?

Could be. I wouldn't necessarily trust them to put a 0 floor on net damage in their scaling calculations.

Scenario 4 is true for me. Recently I started grinding the goons in the essential nodes with characters at low health and even though I didnt take damage, the last three hard nodes didnot scale up. Maybe you should try it too and report if it wasnot the case with you.

Actually, what I try to do is to squeeze as much out of my characters as possible, without using heals. So sometimes I'm going into a normal rated node w/ characters at 1/2 or 1/3 of normal health. And sacrifice a character to absorb a big hit. Sometimes it works, sometimes a retreat is necessary to try again.

wonder how a 1 cover Phoenix is considered, if she dies and comes back.. and you eventually win with only her left, yet 3 chars died...
