The 2-week thing (to my recollection) had been a player complaint, not a dev commitment. As in, "They're releasing a new character like every 2 weeks!" When announcing 5*s, IceIX had referred to putting out 2 4*s for every 5* for 3 months, until 3 5*s were out.
Last week, Phoenix was released, was supposed to be on Thursday (was accidentally on Tuesday ) ... perhaps it was her drop that pushed Rider to Thanksgiving?

The arbitrary schedule I referred to was releasing new characters in 4-day events that start on Thursday and wind up on Monday. This started in August and has been consistent, since they promised no more 7-days new releases.

As far as which week, ask the devs for the factors driving that.

I wish they'd drop a new character every week, but that's another discussion

Sorry, man. I have a long holiday wknd with some family commitment, and certainly have better things than MPQ to do anyway, but I'll probably make time to play. Join a late slice that starts after the Thursday holiday festivities. 4 or 5....or late join on Friday.

It's also deer season. Perhaps DS/Demiurge just have a soft spot for Bambi. Hard to shoot and grind at the same time

With 24 hour subs, 8 hour refreshes, there is much less time commitment this Thanksgiving than there was last year.

Personally, I'll just play enough to get my 2 CPs/day.

It's a weekend like any other in my corner of the planet, so I will be playing as much as any other weekend.
As it's a new event, I will be giving it all I can. Let's hope that's enough to get this new character, as it seems the competition will be smaller.

You know what is a great release event? Things like Ultron - play at your leisure rather than be tied to refreshes, and relatively easy 1/1/1 at the end of it.

You know what a terrible release event is? Any PVE (especially long ones) over holiday weekends. I'll be passing that "turkey", thanks anyway.

Ultron has an 8 hr refresh, same as PvP. If you were playing leisurely and ignoring that, thank your grindier alliance-mates for getting the "relatively easy" 1/1/1 for you.

True, it was on an 8 hr refresh schedule, but no grinding nodes down for placement. That makes for a large time and effort difference.

I'll be playing... but not optimally. Have a 4 day weekend so I will be sleeping in, relaxing, visiting family, and playing within the window when I have a chance.

I'm not doing anything Dec 25th either... is there a new 4* you can release then too? I'll have 11 days off.
