Any 3*s worth max leveling anymore?

I'm in the transition to a 4* roster. I have every 3* cover maxed save for a single Doc Ock cover, but only a handful are lvl 166. I've started to get a few 4*s cover maxed but my highest is level 250.

At this point are there any 3*s that I should spend the ISO on? Or should it all go to my 4*s?

I've got 3s like SWitch, She Hulk, KK, Doom, Grocket and some other hitters in the 130 - 150 range.

A maxed and boosted Cyclops is one of the most dangerous foes in the game, including 4*'s.

M/B Luke Cage can completely nullify most match damage.

Iron Fist is so fragile, you want as much HP as you can get for when you pair him with Hulkbuster.

    Sentry
    Hood
    Hulk

Do you have an online roster that people can check out? My sig has a nice place to keep track of stuff.

What are your covered 4*s and how much do you use them? If you have the main ones and use them every pvp, then probably the 3*s aren't really necessary.

However, I do find that as long pvps are still mainly featured 3*s, it's very helpful to have a high level featured character for better colour cover and health. Between a loaner/jeanbuster, lvl 200/jeanbuster and 290/jeanbuster, I know which ones I'm most likely to hit.

Shulk i think is the only one i can think of that you're missing that *I* would consider worth maxing, she has a ton of health and her green can slow down matches to a crawl, she works really really well with Cage.

I would max kk because when unbuffed shes still great and when shes buffed she will probably be your quickest dmg dealer.

A weekly boosted max-level 3-star has higher stats than a non-boosted max level 4-star, so unless you already have a wide roster of well-covered and levelled 4-star to cover every weekly boosts, it's very useful to have a range of fully levelled 3-stars to base your team around.

I've never chosen to max Loki or Hood because I never want them tanking when I am actively climbing, I'd rather spend health packs on people with closer to 10k health. And the extra 1000 health they could get isn't a difference maker on defence.

3* Falcon is still the God of Goon fights. And I've had Spidey maxed since Noah built a boat, and his purple still has massive value against Hand goons to render caltrops and shiruken pointless.

Every level makes a difference on defense. Each missing level makes you a bigger target.

Totally agreed, especially for Loki and Hood. I'll stop and think about a 270 HB but I instantly skip a 166 Hood with buddies. icon_razz.gif

She Hulk, kamala. If you like winfinite combo, you can max HT to team up with hood/loki (great ap denial team and feeds red/gr to HT).

For leveling to 166, what's the most efficient way to do that without blowing up pve scaling?

Groot is 141 for me, Storm is 133, and 33 others are at 120. Ragnarok, Ock and Marvel are at 114 (capped) and Hood is capped at 78 or so.

What's the best way for me to start transitioning to 166 without killing my pve experience? I've been training everybody ~10 levels at a time at the same time up to this point but that's going to start costing 15k or so per moving forward.
  • IMO, you're asking the wrong question. Should be: Is it worth maximize some 4 *? The higher the level of the characters, the harder it is pve. Furthermore, no 4 * be binding in pvp as 3 * ALL are. If you don't want to be constantly attacked in PvP or don't use very shield I recommend raising the most of your 3 *. 4 * some are important to have good level, but do not need all. In addition not need of all you will have no covers and no Iso to do so.
About pve, you said that no need covers 3 *. With that you should play it only when pve launches new characters or when you need HP.

I love having both Cage and IF maxed to go with HB when they are buffed.
SW and GSBW maxed to go with PX winfinite combo.

Other than that....I've been fully covered for months, and have about half maxed and the rest at 140, high enough for PVP purposes. Any fully maxed is better in the middle than a less-covered one, and will maybe fend off a few attacks (since any lower level might be assumed as under-covered).

But other 3*'s I actually use? When boosted, Hood and maybe Cyc to feed HB - that's about it. This week is a great example: I have maxed Hulk and Doom, but won't use them at all this week. Same has happened lately with BP, LThor, Blade, Cap, CMags, KK, SW, Loki - I just don't use boosted max 3*'s anymore, they aren't up-to-snuff with many of the 4*'s when maxed (or un-maxed and boosted!).

My suggestion to someone today would be go Cage/IF (best 3* team?) max first - and then honestly max some of the better LR characters, where they'll eventually earn you back that investment. Oh wait, did I finally give D3 a reason to start rotating these again?

I'm still working my way in maxing out all star.pngstar.pngstar.png characters (with icon_quicksilver.pngicon_beast.pngicon_doctoroctopus.pngicon_vision.pngicon_kamalakhan.pngicon_bullseye.png ) That way it covers my OCD of getting EVERYONE at its maxed potential & then I can solely focus on my star.pngstar.pngstar.pngstar.png (in which to this day I have not had more than 2 characters with max covers icon_eek.gif )

The approach I'm taking is trying to work people to 120, then to 140, and occasionally sending somebody north of that if a) they're boosted and/or the feature character or b) I know they're a darn good character, regardless of whether they're boosted or not. (Examples of the latter are Iron Fist or Scarlet Witch.)

Honestly, most of them are pretty good in certain situations or when they are buffed. The only ones I would probably NOT eventually max are:

    Mystique
    Ragnarok
    Sentry
    Doc Ock
    Iron Man Model 40
    Quicksilver (lolz)

    Maybes/Low Priority

icon_vision.png: Plays weird and the AI can't play him at all, but he's pretty savage when his blue is out and he's tanking his colors.

icon_psylocke.png: Not earth shattering and her blue is pretty bleh, but her black is really cheap and deals decent damage, plus she can throw out some strikes.

icon_squirrelgirl.png: Better than she's generally given credit for, but everything she can do, someone else can do better, and she's part of the massive glut of green/purple characters.

I think icon_doctoroctopus.png actually gets way more hate than he deserves on account of being a monster against special tile generators, but he's probably fine to fill that role around 130ish.

Also, as others have pointed out, all 3*'s will be featured in PVP events, so you'll be really vulnerable during those if you're using an underleveled or loaner character.

Yeah but like I said I only use them for climbing. So I'll run Loki/Patch/Featured Character to 600ish points before switching up to Fistbuster depending on who else is boosted for the event. I maybe get attacked once between 300 and 600 so it really isn't an issue compared to preserving health packs.

Hood is more a PvE specialist for me, so yet again preventing him from tanking is more important than maximising his health.

Mind you I've almost max covered two minimum level clones of them, but even then it's probably a waste of ISO.
