Wouldn't it be good if...

ACTUAL PVP was implemented?

The Elite tourney got me thinking this. Imagine if there was a tournament with live opponents instead of AI driven ones. THAT would really sort out the men from the boys, and show who the real Elite* are.

  • Not really. If it was turn based, it would be slow and boring. If it was live, it'd be annoying to babysit your phone and have to wait as they potentially used up all their clock.

Finally, attacker gets the advantage in any battle just because of the nature of it. So it wouldn't be fun to go 2nd.

I'm going to have to agree with Jozier here. Even if players were given only a certain amount of time to complete each move, it would still be incredibly slow and prone to the type of person that sits there and waits until the last second to make their move...
  • It'd be a hell of a lot of fun, but they'd have to make it optional and off to the side - rewardless. I have a few friends who also play, and it'd be fun to fight them - implement some restrictions amongst ourselves, only use certain heros, see who can win with Bagman/Yelena/Bullseye, etc.
  • The other massive problem is that people from all over the world play this game, often from mobile devices.

What Jozier said. The main issue with this is that it breaks the pacing of the game. As is, matches feel very fluid and fast, which makes the game feel very fun. If you added real PvP, you would have to wait for your opponents to make matches, which really messes with the fast-paced nature of the game.
  • Better idea:

Give players more control over defensive actions, priorities, or general AI.

Example setting the AI to only cast Punisher Red for kill shots.
  • The only compromise I can think of is:

you face an opponent (controlled by AI) and post a winning time, then he faces your characters (controlled by AI) and posts a winning time. The user who has the lower time wins the match.

I know a lot of people personally that play. It would be great if there was at least LAN PVP or maybe a console version that only allowed local PVP matches. I used to play PQ1 and PQ2 online and it was not a drag waiting for other players. The matches were quick and fun. The timeout with damage was incentive to keep the game moving. The last character standing monster mode in PQ2 was popular at my house. It might be painful on a phone waiting for someone else (especially if you get a call!) but not on a PC or console. I never even see the people I know in my brackets so I can't even play against an AI of their characters so some sort of friends battle would be cool. Maybe minimal or no rewards but no health penalty either? Also, ability to set timeouts and restrict boosts would be good. Another fun feature of PQ1 was character leveling where the game would bring the weaker opponent up to your level so it was an even match. Harder to do in a 3v3 patch and done really badly in the PVE events but it was still a good thing when my son wanted to fight me and my max level character.

Sorry, but this would be an absolute nightmare.
  • I've played other mobile, turned based games live against other users and they work fine. It's simple, set an aggressive per turn timer (ie. 15 seconds) or whatever the average time per move is - the devs can easily caclulate this with historical data. If the person fails to move, the AI moves for them. Instead of rewards, the two users could wager ISO, HP, covers etc or play for fun or some sort of ranking pts.
  • No thanks. I've played CCGs that featured live PvP. BORING. Waiting for your opponent to go just makes the game drag. You may think it sounds good on paper. In reality, its a lot of no bueno.
  • Terrible idea.

Yeah, that works for me. I could wait fifteen secs per turn (but then, I'm a chess player) I agree it would need to be optional, it's not for everyone! (A lot of impatient people on here!). Also, like the idea of having control over setting AI priorities - that's a good idea.

Yeah, being able to script your defense would be nice, even if it was as simple as color ability priority when multiple people on your team use the same color.
  • I love this idea, it gets boring beating up on a substandard AI

I'm not sure why people are so opposed to it.

Don't let true PvP replace anything we have now, just supplement current content with it. Put a timer on moves and increase iso rewards to compensate for longer matches and the fact that only one player can win.

It would be analogous to chess compared to speed chess against against a substandard computer program

For my money chess is a much better gauge of a player's skills.

    PQ1 style, five second timer

    GOTTA GO FAST
  • Be nice if events didnt always end at 5am for me. No point really in entering them if i cant play near the end.
