i'm just totally stuck

I posted this as a response in the suggestions forum, but I kind of wanted advice from everyone. there seems to be no way for me (i guess i'm a midrange player?) to move towards upper-level **covers, let alone build my Spidey, Punisher, and Hulk covers.
should I delete my account and just start over? my MMR seems too high; i creeped up to 4th in The Best There Is, only to get pummeled down to 105th and running 7-10 skips before I find a team i can even hope to beat (winning about 3/4 of the matches i pick, but skipping 85-141 level teams in the meantime).
chamber44 wrote:i'm on Day 39 playing (according to my Daily bonus). I did let an inordinate amount of covers go (ranging from a GSBW to a couple Ares, **Mags, etc), but not that many before I realized that roster slots were cheap.
And I haven't seen any Astonishing Wolvie, Ares, OBW, and certainly no *** covers. Even when I bought a Triple Edged Pack, I got 5 (seriously. five tinykitty Bagman coagman covers (seriously. five tinykitty Bagman covers). So, how does one go about obtaining these magical weapons? Is 40 days and counting really not long enough to have realistically acquired any significant characters? my top 5 covers are M. Storm 50, 5/3/5, **Wolvie 44 2/5/3, C. Storm 43, 3/5/5, Iron Man 35, Level 41, 5/5/3, and OBW 38, 3/3/1.

Edit: Whoops. Didn't see that your roster was mostly 1*'s-early 2*'s. In that case, you should be aiming for rank 46-150 progression rewards in the tournaments so that you can develop your 2* roster base. Don't even think about 3* covers, since those are a lot easier to obtain once you have a fully-fleshed out 2* roster. Going down to rank 105 is perfectly fine for the best there is tourney: it gets you 2* covers that you need to make the transition out of 1*s.
If you're having trouble finding beatable opponents, you should probably tank the tournaments until your MMR is more reasonable. I would join a tournament right away, grind to a reasonable amount of points (say 300) while saving 1 easy match (probably on the bottom right node so that attacks don't erase it), and beat that 1 easy match with a tank team. Then you can ignore the tournament until the last day and watch the attacks come rolling in and drop your MMR.0 -
If you're aiming for an upper 2* roster (and you should be) then 105 is right about where you want to be. Make sure to place high enough for those Thor covers, and turn those in to a higher placement next time. In my case, No Man's Land and the PvE event running at the time got me OBW and Wolverine, and they got me Punisher in the next tournament. Just take it one step at a time.0

3 star characters tend to be awful until you get the 6th cover or so, and cover acquisition is either random or ridiculously expensive. So, the one way to improve is to have a roster in the high 20s, so you can stash all those 3 star covers when they are offered as prizes. Even if you do well for a couple of weeks, you might not even get lucky and get a single 3* yo a usable level.
I was quite fortunate during the Daredevil debacle, had a few really low level heroes, and was able to tank my way into 7 patches: 1 top 45 in a wolvie tournament, two #1 subevents. But still, even in my position it'll take a long while to get an endgame team.
Once you get a playable 3*, getting the next one becomes far easier, and so on. You just need to do well in a couple of events.0 -
I don't know why tanking = purposefully losing. Tanking to me should be when you put your highest hp guys on the defense when you are not playing. People like hulk, spidey, probably punisher. They can take a long time to kill and they can also do a lot of damage to players with low life. Spidey for the heal of course.0

Yes, once you get your first playable 3-star, it becomes much easier. Especially if it is Spidey, since his stun and heal can sustain you far longer than before.
But I agree that there is a progression problem, even later in the game. I feel somewhat stuck too, but at a more advanced stage. I have several 3-stars with around 4-5 covers, and so they are stuck in the 60s in terms of level. I have pretty much all my 3-stars leveled as high as they can go, but the question becomes, how do you get the covers to further improve them? I wish there was a better answer rather than "trust your luck with tokens." Even placing highly in a tournament doesn't net you much. Of course, I pulled a red Hulk through a standard token today, so I'm in a good mood0 -
Can't you max wolverine Thor and c storm through prologue? What about the people events?0

I'm assuming there are going to be more tourneys with different prizes? It seems like the last few have been Thor/Wolvie.0 -
I want to shoot your C.Storm in the face and put her out of her misery
Otherwise, wait for a good PvE ( I'm hoping for Red Iso) and get some ISO and just make a real good 2 star team for now; OBW/Wolvie is still a viable combo. Just make sure OBW has AT LEAST 4 black.
Aim for the triple 2-star rewards in PvP and you should be fine. 3-stars aren't even viable until they have around 8 covers.0 -
Keep in mind that if you finish really know in the tourney in the end your MMR will go down for the next one.0

and what's wrong with my C.Storm? wrong covers? I maxed her before I realized the differences in the levels.0 -

I too want to know what red ISO is. Some campaign?
c.Storm shines at 5-5-3 currently; building her to that myself. I recommend you to rebuild her later, but much later and at your leisure when you can't be bothered with much else.
Just parted with another yellow cover yesterday because it's, well, a passive that requires you to take a huge hit, which you want to prevent anyway. On the other hand, destroying, say, 30 tiles for 30 green AP sounds exciting.0 -

Red ISO is a PvE event. I thought the Hunt was better for ISO, though a properly scaled TaT might be better again...
Both storms best and defining ability is green. So seeing a character without its best ability is unsettling. Though if they ever get round to respecs it is fixable.0 -
chamber44 wrote:My Thor is maxed, cover-wise. I just need the ISO to level him up. I kind of have to try to grind out a top 15 in the Wolvie tournament so that I can at least get the Spidey Blue (giving me 2/1/1).

A lot of people sold off Thor and wolvie as a result of the changes and the sweet sweet HP that was available for a maxed character. Wolvie has also been useful / necessary in the last few tournaments. The mix of prizes does rotate more normally.
As for your being stuck issues, you just need some PvE loving. In a good tournament you can net maybe 40 standard tokens which will convert to a few 2 star covers and the odd 3 star. If rubber banding is still in force then learn to ride it to sub event wins. If they have gone or progression rewards over rubber banding then grind progression.
Trying to win tournaments may be a mistake, as it can put you in a no mans land where your rating is too high to progress. When I reached your stage of progression I aimed for the heroic progression token around 300 points, then tanked. I also threw some cash at Spider-Man covers because back then they had events with 'high chance of captain America and Spider-Man classic covers'. I think the point you are at is designed to encourage some cash out of players, and everyone hits it.0 -
