PVP time slices

So I've figured out how to hit 1000 in PVP pretty regularly but the wild card still seems to be the time slice I'm in. It's much more difficult to hit 1000 when only the top 7 people in my slice are above 1000 when the slice closes. Which slice do I need to join to have access to the biggest points pool? Does it make a difference when I join a slice? How are people deciding which slice to enter? Right now this is by far the biggest obstacle to hitting 1000 for me...

Avoid slice 2 and 4 from what I heard.
Also depending on how much time you feel like spending, I might recommend doing a sprint climb in whatever slice is closest to a convenient empty span of time.
Get in, climb your way up to about 500 points or however far you can manage with the health packs and roster you have (I usually get to about the 500 mark with a 166 and two 140s), then hit an 8 hour shield break. Let the enemies clamor for the retaliation points (which the shield protects for you). Get your packs and characters restored over the time, and then when you come back in skip the three fights to refresh your point totals and enemies.
Based on how well the others climb, you'll find yourself having some good 30-40 point nodes to work through. From here climb as high as you can again (I usually get to about 800 here) all in one big sprint. Shield up again, this time for however long you think you'll need for personal life stuff. 8 hours for sleep, 24 for a work day, whatever.
When you come back, your points should either be higher based on losing opponents, or the same. This time take it at your own pace but just work on climbing nice and slowly. When you creep closer to the top you'll find yourself on the recieving end of a lot of pain. It can't be helped, but if you pick a good time (like early morning for that slice) you'll only face a few losses and you should be able to claim that elusive 1000 point mark somewhat easily.
I find slice 1 and 5 have pretty high point totals by the end of it all. Maybe go there and fish up some bigger catch?0 -
So, first need to strongly disagree w/ bla on both time slices, and appropriate shielding. Slice 1 and 5 are currently the dryest slices. More importantly tho, don't shield around 500, basically ever. Instead, climb to your equilibrium point, the points you can stay at taking minimal attacks. Once you do this, wait till you heal up and there is only enough time left in the event for you to be shielded the rest of the time at minimal cost (3, 8, 11, or 14 hours usually, 19 or 22 if you want to go much higher than roster strength would allow), then climb until you get nervous or get hit once, and shield. Once you've shielded, skip until you get high value targets, and do 1-3 fights per shield, depending on speed. You shouldn't be shielding in general until you're 1-2 fights from your goal (800, or 1000)...
So my advice:
-Slice 2, 3, or 4
-Don't shield because you have work or whatever, float until you're ready to push.
-Shield hop when you're near the points you want.0 -
While I can appreciate your disagreeance and good advice, I don't know if its just good bracketing but the last time I went through an event in slice 1 I was top 50 with 850 points, with the first 10 or 12 people over 1k. When I go through in slice 2, it just seems so much more empty barring one or two juggernauts at the top. Also I disagree with the idea of floating, at least on a personal note, simply because the time in which its more keen for me to be climbing is, by the same note, the same time everyone else will be climbing. Meanwhile, if I sprint up to 500 points (which I just gave as an example, the sprint can be anywhere from 300-650 points based on my roster and the opponents at the time) then shield the retaliations, I can take advantage of staggering the climb cycles that most people take.
I can agree and say to the OP that your advice is more conventional and, usually, more effective. However, from my personal experiences I find it way easier to just do two or three sprints. I've scraped 1k points doing it as well, and in slice 1 no less, so as far as the slices go you are probably right and I'm just getting lucky draws, but I don't think the method I use is entirely wrong.0
