Are you kidding me? (legendary tokens)

Ok. I gotta vent this. And the only way to do this is here.

Before I delve into the problem, let me explain my 4* situation. I already posted this on the DPDQ reaction topic but today something happened that demanded me to bring it up. So, about the four stars. I have only six powers in the whole four star land that is maxed at five covers. They are: X force black and yellow. IW yellow and green. Carnage red and green.
With this I was able to claim my first legendary token in the cyclops match.
I was happy until I opened the token and pulled a X force black.
Really sad moment for me, and I shared this on the other topic.
Today I finally got my first 4* prize in the vault, since the very beginning of it, and to my surprise it was the legendary token.
So I restored my faith again in the game for actually pulling something good out of it.
Again... My happiness was brief. Pulled a X force yellow on that one.

So... Are you kidding me????
Is that supposed to be funny or something?

Because the odds of pulling 2 of the same 4* in a row is less than 5%. Out of all the four stars out there in the token, I have to pull twice the same nerfed character that was my first one maxed, really? And one of the 6 powers out of more than 45 available that I don't need?

Not only this. Recently I sold 2 red carnages, some IWs and others X forces . I sold more than trained recently.

I like this game. And I think it have a lot of potential but this kind of thing it's what is ruining the game for me.

Token pulls are token pulls. What you got was well within the realm of possibility. While you might not have needed those there are plenty of people who'd kill for them.

I know this. But it is really necessary to pull the same characters over and over and over? I didn't sold only those 2 X forces. I pulled him in other occasions. Just like the few others I have the power maxed already. It's really frustrating...

I have exactly 2 maxed 4* covers, XFW green and IMHB Black.. i have since sold 5 or 6 IMHB blacks.. and still only have the 1 red..

yes, tokens can be cruel... and frustrating.

This is why we need a trading post.
  • Marvel war of hero's has trading and that game pales in comparison to this one. Why no trading MPQ?

I fear for the day I cash in on my (currently) two legendary tokens. I can just see myself getting IW greenflag.png , the only one I have at 5 (have no one else even at 4).

I don't understand why this is relevant to the problem at hand.

From the top of my head, MPQ can be easily hacked and then the guy can trade/sell (black market, online store for real $$) hacked covers.
  • I don't see us getting cover trading. But, I would like to see the ISO sales price for each 4* cover increase to at least 10k ISO. It would help with the crazy cost of leveling in the 4* transition phase and it wouldn't make pulling duplicate 4* covers feel like such a punch in the gut.

Don't take this the wrong way but....
That's a real first world problem.

I don't know if you track your token pulls - I do so that when I think I'm in a run of bad luck I can look at some actual stats - if you're throwing away multiple versions of those covers then I'd say, based on no factual evidence whatsoever icon_mrgreen.gif , that you're well ahead of the distribution albeit in quite an unsatisfying way.

Personally, I'd love to see the possibility to choose between prizes for pvp placement (1.3)/prog rewards: a legendary token or a specific 4* cover (cycling as usual). This would make basically everyone happy. Both the gamblers - and those who daydream about 5* - and the players who want to be able to plan their 3*-4* progression.

I have zero trust in (my) token luck, and I'm almost sure that I will be swimming in IW and XFW covers as soon as I start opening those things.

Not exactly. I have 3 usable 4*, one of them being IW, which is not that good when you are competing.
I'm beginning to think that I only have those 3 usable because I pull them all the time.
And I'm sure that are others in the same situation. Like Malcrof and his IMHB black. It makes me wonder if the game have some bias to some characters.

OP, it's just two token pulls.

A d20 can roll the same number twice in a row. That is just as likely as pulling the same 4* from two legendary tokens. Would you be outraged by rolling the same number twice?

Randomness is, from the dev perspective, a feature and not a bug. There is a reason casinos, and lotteries, and raffles, and collectible card games do very well. Human psychology makes all of us very susceptible to rewards that offer a very small chance of winning a very big prize. We look at a legendary pack and see all the 4* and 5* covers we desperately want. Demiurge/D3 look at a legendary pack and see it as a way to offer a reward that players will expend tons of effort/money to get even though it might not actually help them at all (or at least, will only help them to the tune of 1k iso), meaning that players will remain engaged and spend even more time/money playing the game for their next legendary (this time for sure!).

Sadly, that is more or less the price of playing in the new micro-transaction/freemium gaming world. I don't think it is going to change any time soon.

I built a 2/0/4 duplicate Fury while my 5/3/5 languished waiting. It does happen.

As he said, the best way to ease to your own mind is to actually track what you've received. I do it for my own sanity, it helps.

To your original dilemma, there are 14 3* in the tokens as such, so 42 powers, plus Surfer. So your odds of getting something usable are 36/42*.95 + .05 = 86.42%. Getting a cover you already have is roughly the same as an odd spade (A,3,5,7,9,J,K) deck of cards. It's about 1.8% to strike out twice, roughly the odds of being dealt the Ace of Spades.

Always sucks when it's the first ones (where the pattern is obvious) but it will happen commonly.

Sheeet!! They want our money to play a game that can be that easily hacked?

Each time you max a color, whether you decide to lock it at 3/4/5, it adds one cover to the list you don't want to see anymore.

Tokens don't care about that list, and sometimes they're a tad mischievous.

That's the law of RNG, it can be enraging/disheartening but that's just how it goes.

From what Ive seen, MPQ is one of the easiest games to hack. For real. The tutorial from cheating tools teaches enough to hack MPQ.
  • Looking forward to your next post when you pull a xforce green from your next legendary. icon_e_biggrin.gif
