Ease 2* transition for newer players

I've hooked a lot of my friends on this game lately, since they've been hearing me gush about it for months, and I'm hearing a common complaint from most of them. Transitioning to 2* characters without spending big money is too hard.

Back when I did this a player exited the prologue with a mostly complete Thor/C. Storm and a good start on a Wolverine. With the more recent prologue revamp it's gotten a lot harder for a new player to generate enough covers for a single 2* character to really develop them to the point of being better than their 1* lineup. Unless they want to lay out money for Hero Points to buy the powers up at 250 HP a pop it' becomes a very frustrating exercise in patience. I've got friends who were initially very high on the game but getting burned out and playing less or thinking of quitting altogether due to this issue, so I though it worth mentioning here as it's probably negatively affecting the potential pool of paying customers.

I'm really not sure what the remedy is, maybe special packs containing *only* 2* characters that sell cheaper than heroic daily deals might do it.

  • Wait, there was a Prologue revamp? I thought if anything that the Prologue would have gotten a bit easier, now that Ragnarok isn't a ridiculous red-spamming machine. What's gotten harder about it?

Oh it was quite some time ago. A lot of the rewards changed to tokens and ISO whereas originally (going back to October 2013 here) someof the missions had multiple 2* covers for Thor or Wolverine or C. Storm in the reward mix. So a little patience grinding could get a person a fully skilled 2* character or two by the end of the prologue.

I was one of the players who joined after changes to Prologue, and I remember that I was able to make the 2* transition by just doing PvP tournaments and going for heroic tokens in the PvE events. I think a 1* roster should be able to sneak into the top 75 for the 3 2* covers if they were persistent, and doing that a couple of times for a key character should give you enough covers to make the switch.

I do agree that they should add more 2* cover rewards to ease this transition: making the last mission of a PvE event reward a guaranteed 2* cover or 2 would go a long way towards making this happen.

i'm on Day 39 playing (according to my Daily bonus). I did let an inordinate amount of covers go (ranging from a GSBW to a couple Ares, **Mags, etc), but not that many before I realized that roster slots were cheap.

And I haven't seen any Astonishing Wolvie, Ares, OBW, and certainly no *** covers. Even when I bought a Triple Edged Pack, I got 5 (seriously. five **** Bagman coagman covers (seriously. five **** Bagman covers). So, how does one go about obtaining these magical weapons? Is 40 days and counting really not long enough to have realistically acquired any significant characters? my top 5 covers are M. Storm 50, 5/3/5, **Wolvie 44 2/5/3, C. Storm 43, 3/5/5, Iron Man 35, Level 41, 5/5/3, and OBW 38, 3/3/1.

I would try to get in touch with CS on that one. You can curse or appease the Random Number Selector all you want, that is someting that just SHOULD NOT happen, good covers or less so.
  • Didn't the Hulk event give out a ton of 2* Hawkeye covers as rewards for finishing certain missions? I thought that was an awesome way to get some extra covers out and was really disappointed that they didn't have a focused-on character like that for TaT.
  • I've been banging on about them (the devs) into retooling the SHIELD tourney as a way to help new players get more two star covers.

More heroic tokens as prizes (instead of Classic Hawkeye covers!) could go a long way in helping people make the transition.

I'm in the process of making that 1* to 2* transition. I'm wondering if there are any of the 1* characters worth keeping once making that shift.

    I'm currently holding:
    Iron Man (Model 35) 5/3/5 Level 50
    Storm (Modern) 5/3/5 Level 50
    Wolverine (Astonishing) 2/4/2 Level 45
Black Widow (Modern) 5/5 Level 40
    Wolverine (X-Force) 0/0/1 Level 30
Black Widow (Original) 5/1/1 Level 26
    Spider-Man (Bag Man) 3/3/3 Level 22
Captain America (Modern) 2/1/4 Level 22
    Hawkeye (Classic) 5/5 Level 20
Black Widow (Grey Suit) 1/1/1 Level 20
    Juggernaut (Classic) 5/5 Level 16
    Spider-Man (Classic) 0/0/1 Level 15
    Thor (Marvel) 3/2/2 Level 6
    Storm (Classic) 0/0/1 Level 6
    Venom (Dark) 5/3 Level 6

I'm also sitting on A Patch Wolverine (yellow), Daredevil (red), & Moonstone (red) which will be expiring over the next few days if I don't get more slots or sell off something else to make room.

Oh, and I was pretty ticked off when the prologue forced me to spend 100 Hero Coins on Hawkeye or Black Widow. Was that always the case?

Yeah, that's part of the "tutorial" so same for everyone.

Out of your roster you can safely toss bagman and classic hawkeye. If you need even more slots then Venom, Juggernaut and IM35 are also low usage characters.

Once you have OBW black(Espionage) at 4 or 5, she effectively replaces MBW, which you may then safely sell. I would also dump Venom, as you made the Rookie Mistake of giving his Purple(Symbiote Snare) a fifth cover, negating that move's efficency and usefullness. Only keep Juggernaut if you plan on using him for PvP.
  • It's really not that hard to transfer from 1 to 2*. Scaling makes it unfairly easy for new players to get good rewards in pve (which is why I hate hearing noobs complain) and heroic tokens always give 2 to 3*, and they're not that hard to get. If you're looking for that iso that the prologue supposedly no longer gives, every event has 500 iso as its 50 point reward. Once you start getting more 2* covers, a sold 2* is worth 500.

Ah, so that's how Thor was so prevealent. I was starting with steam and mine was sitting with 3 or 4 covers forever, and got the 13th just yesterday. (and sitting at level 22 still, not sure ever receiving ISO, at least until I get 2 yellows to replace the random finds). And CStorm got her covers complete only recently too.

But for the intent: I had no problem with transitioning whatsoever, prologue starts you on Wolverine and several others, you get ** cover from like every 6th standard token. And you can get tokens from a ton of sources with just the * team. In recent PVEs you even get serious advantage from having no roster worth mentioning -- see Sandmaker making top10 in main event with ease (estimate the sub results). While we others go stuck on 200+ level opponents.

** sells for 250, but the rest stands.
  • My own transition from consisted of placing 46-200 in PvP events with IM35, M.Storm and M.Black Widow all at level 50.

M.Storm is dangerous in almost every team.

    Oh yeah, duh. I must've been thinking 3* while I meant 2*

I started 48/49 days ago and transitioning to 2 stars has been nothing short of painful in the pulling wisdom teeth way.

PvE was/is a major challenge (I'm not one of those lucky duck newbies - sorry!) and PvP was/is almost impossible.

I was grinding through Juggernaut in the Prologue okay and I had the beginner characters plus one Classic Mags with Translocation to help push me through... And then R47 happened and YES the Prologue got screwed over for me.

Juggernaut levels with Juggernaut in them became much more difficult and then Thor and Wolverine - both whose covers I had JUST started collecting - got neutered and GUESS WHO is one of your add-on character in the Juggernaut stages?

A useless Hawkeye and a useless Thor.

No, seriously. They are so underleveled that they seldom claim any color dominance which means not only are they useless but they can't even be used as shields in your team so you have a deadweight.

Meanwhile, Juggs is har-har-haring and sitting on your neutered Thor reward covers and to add insult to injury, though you finally manage to plow through through Juggernaut, you collect -20 ISO-.

Dunno if it's because of when I started playing but ever since R47, my progress came to a screeching halt and I started to just log in, play a quick game or two and then forget about the game.

I recently came back to see it R48 was any improvement.

Edit: My token pulls have been painfully bereft of 2 star heroes or repeats of needed 1 star covers (before I finally collected most of them). I have mostly pulled repeats of covers I can't use like a 10th Blue MBW cover or a variety of single 3 star covers which are useful but only to a point since their leveling is throttled.
  • The rewards for just playing will get you some 2* covers pretty easily: There are some thors and wolverines in there.

PvE and PvP are also great sources of tokens and covers. They give out wolverine covers like candy, and wolverine doesn't really need much to be better than Iron Man.
