Please Help. Basic PVE Questions I Can't Figure Out
DukeUpdate
I've been playing for a while (day 248) and my wife and son recently started playing as well.
I've been trying to help them based on my experiences and from reviewing these boards, but I've found information that varies widely on a couple of points.
I certainly may have missed them, but are there definitive answers to any of the following questions?
1. Do we know what the cutoff level is that changes people from being placed in the easier PVE group and instead of the harder PVE group?
2. Does your performance within a PVE event actually change the personal scaling of the event , or is it just the level of your characters? i.e., does losing or struggling in a couple of early battles actually help reduce your scaling later on in the same event, or is that just an urban legend?
3. Is your personal PVE scaling based on the average level of your characters or the total level of your characters? i.e., ignoring the cost of roster slots, are you better off selling off most of your 1*s (and Moonstone and Bag-Man....) because their levels/covers count toward your scaling level, or keeping them because they bring down your average?
From what I have read by going back on the boards, there were people who held very strong opinions on these questions (which seemed to vary greatly from person to person), but I can't tell if there was some answer given or consensus reached before I started visiting the boards and I missed it in my review of the older posts.
Thanks.
Edit: My esteemed Alliance Commander just pointed out a great post from aesthetocyst that helps a lot with questions 2&3. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=32767

1. Do we know what the cutoff level is that changes people from being placed in the easier PVE group and instead of the harder PVE group?
Unfortunately, we don't. It seems to have something to do with how well you place. If you place T100/50/10 (or whatever the cutoff is) in enough PvE events in a row, you move up to the veteran brackets. It doesn't seem to have any bearing on your roster (in terms of 1*, 2*, 3* ,4* 5* or levels).
2. Does your performance within a PVE event actually change the personal scaling of the event , or is it just the level of your characters? i.e., does losing or struggling in a couple of early battles actually help reduce your scaling later on in the same event, or is that just an urban legend?
Yes, it does. If you clear nodes with little to no damage, the level of your nodes will go up. This is called personal scaling. There's something else called community scaling, where the level of the nodes would go up if everyone else in the event was clearing those nodes with little to no damage. Community scaling was turned off some months ago. General advice to minimise personal scaling is to use your lower level characters on the trivial/easy nodes, and your more developed roster on the harder nodes. That way, your lower level characters will take more damage than your higher level characters would on those easy nodes.
We don't know the answer to this. You're probably better off selling off your 1*s and 2*s (apart from the ones you use in DDQ) after you transition to 3* territory, simply because roster slots get hellishly expensive, rather than for scaling reasons.0
