What was the 3* tipping point for you?

  • Grind iso in LR's till you hit 250 then decide if you can push and shield or just tank the remainder.

Wait a day before entering pvp, will place you in a less active bracket.

Make sure you have three active friends on facebook... free iso adds up.

This is the one thing i don't have. I don't use facebook but i was forced to because the savegame was saved on facebook and not on any game server. So I'm doing all of this solo. Any thread i can go to to add random people to my facebook friends?
  • I'm so impressed that you don't use Facebook that I found this page for you: https://www.facebook.com/groups/mpqshare/

Wish I could delete my Facebook, but it's almost as addicting as MPQ!

I wouldn't recommend using a group like that. The thing is that you can only send iso to 3 people at a time, so the way to maximize iso is to have exactly 3 people on your friends roster (and those people would only have you + 2 other people on their roster as well). This way, you get all of the iso that they can share with other people.

Woah! Thanks for that! I'll check that out when i get home. yeah i seriously think facebook is a massive waste of time. I don't need to know what my friends are doing every second of every day. I'm not needy. Also, none of my friends have facebook because we all think the same way. We'd rather play coop games together every weekend.

Only 3 people? Well that sucks. There is literally nothing good about this game then.
  • Most of the time its just 3, but I've seen up to 10 as well. And while mostly its just ISO rewards, I've seen several tokens and even a cover from time to time too.

Woah, that's a different story then. Has anyone heard anything about them implementing a similar system via your Steam friends?
  • Not sure if I agree with waiting a day. Everyone waits a day for a less active bracket, so the day 2 brackets are always full of people hunting that advantage.

I started Best There Is a couple hours in to the first day, and I'm sitting at #1 with a very humble 438 points. Not a single person has shielded yet. I've done this in basically every tournament, and an early start lets me build up a lead. When shields were cheap I could build it up and just wait the tourney out, now that they're more expensive I'll build that lead, lose it and quickly retake it, which seems to be the predominate strategy in all the brackets I've been in.

Actually, now that I think about it, I agree it doesn't seem to make a difference anymore now that shield costs have risen and shielded opponents are no longer visible on matchmaking. The median 1st place score has plummeted in the last few weeks as fewer and fewer people shield and the feeding frenzy you are exposed to once you cross 600 pts.
  • The tipping point for me was the back to back Iron Man 40 tournaments they ran. My 5/3/5 Iron Man (I got these from just random luck) quite enjoyed the event.

I had a 0/1/2 Spider-Man and I managed to top 5 both of those tournaments, bringing him to 2/3/4, and with a small HP investment and two lucky pulls, my Spider-Man became 3/5/5.

From the Hulk event, I managed to leave with a 5/2/3 Hulk.

I decided to invest some HP into more covers for my Magneto from the Steam DLC Sale.

Between the 3 of them, I managed to form a pretty good 3* team, however I then also bought a 5-pack of the Punisher packs in boredom one night and pulled 4 Punisher covers, bringing him to 5/2/3 also.

THEN after the Thorverine nerf, I decided to sell them so I could re-invest all of that ISO into 3* characters. I haven't been doing very well in the events since (though enjoyed the lightning rounds), but I feel in the long run my team will be quite good at the 3* level.

I've always thought if you're going to try to game your bracket the best time to register should be when something important to the competition monkeys is going on. Mags Lightning Round, near a PvE reset deadline, that sort of thing. But whatever you do, there's a chance someone else had the same idea at the same time. I have seen extreme slacker brackets, but there's usually at least one or two people trying to push high, and with how clustered scores are now it's sometimes hard to be sure who's trying, anyway. The new entertainment is watching people break shield in top 5 to try for first with, like, 30 minutes to go and promptly disappear without trace.

That's sound advice, I'll take that into consideration next time there are concurrent PVP and LR tourneys.

I have a bad habit of breaking shield at the 11th hour to make a run at first, but only when there's a sizeable cushion between 2nd and 6th..
  • My 3* tipping point was when Thor and Wolverine had insanely high selling prices. I had Punisher, Classic Spidey, and Grey Suit/Original (She's not 3*, but the point is the same) covers by that point, but the ISO I gained from selling Throverine was enough to make my 3* roster viable.

They still aren't terribly impressive. Punisher is LV 89 (capped), Spidey is LV 86 (cap is 89 right now) and Grey Suit is LV 81 (cap is LV 128 right now), but they are good enough to be a viable team. (Also, I still switch Original Widow in often, being at Lv80 right now).
  • Lightning rounds. I started mid November (I'm on about day 80) though so a team of thor, low level doom, free villain was enough to compete for the 3*** diabolical tokens and round dependent get higher. From there I leveled doom up and started grabbing magneto before the rag nerf and from there I leveled magneto up slowly to 125 where he has sat for weeks since he was put on the nerf docket. The whole while thor + whomever was good enough with persistence to get top 10 in basically every tournement ..PvP and pve.

Also, you win around 80 stand tokens a week when pve like the hulk run and with the odds at about 3% that means you are going to get at least one 3*** in 80 tokens at likely more.
About a month or two ago I started getting first tier consistently in my PvP and pve. I would ha e a higher xforce than a lowly 5/1/1 if it wasn't for the fact that I didn't participate all that much right after the shields came out because I didn't Luke the idea of paying a shield to win. Retrospect...was certainly worth it to spend 300-400 hp at the time to win some more red and yellow xforce.

Of those things....I think the only one that still stands is the 80 tokens per thought. I mean, lr can still be good, but I don't know enough about hiw the lower leveled matchmaking is to comment. Needless to say, lots of 85 thor teams are doing well and it is mostly due to the matchmaking keeping them out of the que of higher levels players. Maybe its thr same as when I was running thor, low doom, free ...but distinctly remember seeing mid to high villian teams and I was winning from mashing boosts (something also not possible) to keep my speed up to par.

Also, my ISO intake has sucked. It would be interesting to see the actual value but I am sure I've used over 30k in boosts easily from back when i was doing those lr as a low level. I have only 2 character cracking 100 and one is doom who I never used outside the lr. Many above lvl 50 but even then...my ISO is low. I do have every cover of almost every non-4**** card though. Think I need 1 black Loki, daredevil (2/1/2 like many) and 2 black hulk to finish the 3*** and 1 black obw and something for magneto to finish 2**. 5/1/1 on xforce and 2/1/2 on iw. Also have 31 slots, 71k ISO, and 8900 hp as of right now to work with. That is where I am at after 80 days.

I am sure both punisher and patches, handed out veeeery easily, have helped create a 3*** point Much how IM 40 and grey suit did for some ppl few months back. Punisher and patches are better than IM though and less team dependant than grey suit.

When I managed to farm enough Patch covers to get a fully leveled 3*.

Except I sort of did that with IM40 already, but he's not that great of a 3* >_>
  • I managed to land in top 15 a few times using just 2*s. You just have to do it in tournaments where the top competition is relatively uninterested. Now I have 3 or 4 covers on a bunch of 3s, and 7 patches, which beefs up my roster enough to make landing that top 15 easier.

I am sure hoping I can get 2 spiderman covers tomorrow,0/3/3 seems like enough to make him compete with OBW for playing time.
