A returning players thoughts PVP edition

I had recently taken a break of 4-5 months from PVP. When I returned I asked about the not so gradual climb now in PVP. After playing 5 events I have the following thoughts:

1. Although parity is good and I should be fighting similar rosters I really miss the somewhat easy climb to 600 there used to be

2. Boosted characters are hilarious. I never thought when having 500 points I would say "ooohhh a team with a 200 KK, 240 BP and 166 Thor. Now there is an easy target"

3. I can't for the life of me figure out how I would ever make 1000 with my roster of 10 maxed 3* I get to 600 points and immediately get knocked back to 400+. I must be crazy unlucky in the brackets I get as top scores have been 1600+

4. PVP is still way better than PVE for a higher level roster

This. It's kind of crazy now that I see a team with two unboosted, cover maxed 166s, and see a soft target.

Depends on whether your maxed 3*s are boosted or not, and whether you're using the loaner. Your equilibrium point with that sort of roster should be around 600-650, I would think, if you have the right boosted characters, with your first shield a quick run up from there.

I'd say the last 2 events, kk and vision are a bit odd imo, kk was boosted for both and I think for the second time in row with vision.

So vision pvp makes the red yellow blue characters you can bring weaker than normal on defense. Vision just fires off his power all the time, side effect being he works very well with kk.

Now the kk event if you are using a low level or a loaner your worse off than most other events. It's hard for any pair to overcome her Heath regen especially with low cost allies.

So if you don't have 4* missing a good kk these last 2 events prob makes you a higher target than usual.

I'm sure your boosted bp saw a lot of action. Hope your having fun.

BP has done all the heavy lifting. My KK isn't too shabby lvl 156 but not the mental block a 290 must have. Maybe I just hit very angry people. Always seems like I get hit by people in same alliance.

After reading points 1-3 I was expecting that sudden left turn icon_lol.gif

The easy climb to 600 has been gone for a long time. Since MMR changes in early April. That was a fun time. They took away the 600pt grace period and ran Heavy Metal to open Season 13. MMR cranked to "BRUTAL TENDERIZER". Result was Maxed teams from 0. Next event they ran Teenage Riot with the MMR set to "crippled kitten". Inexplicably even easier than the 'free' 600pt setup had been.

After that they flipped it to medium and let it sit.

    I remember that week!

Heavy Metal was a pain in the ****, but I really really hated Smash Hit and Blind Justice events that were run around the same time. For whatever reason I had a really really hard time even getting to 600 in those two events (even running my pre-nerf xforce). It was a nice relief when they switched on the old MMR system for that second run of teenage riot. one last hurrah of easy 2* teams up to 600.

Back on topic, there certainly have been a lot of changes in pvp. If you are still running a mainly 3* roster, then it's really important to have a deep roster so that you can take advantage of the weekly boosteds.

OP, if you can't construct a good team of boosteds in any given PVP, or if you don't have a good featured character, then you might want to use cage on your defensive team. he is a decent deterrent as he really slows things down.

And you will probably have trouble hitting 1k regularly except when you have 10+ covers for the featured 3*.

Just did Teen Riot to 1k with no shield with Kamala, BP, Mags, Hood, and Iron Fist. Used XF twice. Didn't even go though my health packs. It's quite possible to hit 1k just fine with a 3* roster but it's more about which ones you have.

wow, with all those good black users all you need is fist and when any of your black nukes is boosted, you have a good team that could get there. short of fist, they are all good, but depends on the featured. vision I ran fist/bp and made it. kk I ran bp/hood and made it. both with my usual 3/8/3 shields for a couple of hops. with patch boosted this next week, hulkbomb away.

Crazy that 600 is an equilibrium point for people with 3 stars maxed, but 3 star covers aren't awarded till 800.

the problem with the 800 cover is that if you have maxed three stars you dont need the 800 cover. youre already running 290/240/240 and 800 is just another 500 iso.

they really should change that award. its always confused me. its like if you got here, you dont need this.
  • With so many full blown 270/166 players out there, that's all I see past 200 pts! The _best_ I can hope for is they use one or two unboosted 166. Takes lots of ISO to skip that much, and usually settle for anything in the low 200's. Half the time, I just see 270 or boosted 350 which I normally skip. It is brutal with my Lv155 roster. I did hit 1000 three times, but now get hammered from 850 to 600 pts in 20 minutes by just playing two matches. Lots of 270/166 players sitting at 400-500 pts so they hit for easy 50+. So unfun really.

I try to tell myself that it will be a little better when I get my roster to 166, but then I think I'll be facing more 270-350 enemies.

155 to 166 is practically zero difference. from experience i can tell you the best you can hope for is that once youre running max boosted teams (290/240/240) you may get skipped a little more often than before, but nothing makes a difference once youre worth 50+ points to someone, youre going to get hit period.

pvp is a soulless grind, and if youre hitting 1000, youre doing well and you shouldnt sweat it. if you want to keep youre points, shield when you hit your target.

Agreed. As someone currently running a 245/240/240 KK/CMags/BP in Teenage Riot I'm aiming for the 800 mark; I should make it with my final run (I'm a little under the 600 equilibrium point right now) but when practically every team I queue up for 38+ points is 290/240/240... it makes it more difficult; one bad board/cascade against those teams and the match is over and I'm out 3 health packs. It would be impossible if I didn't have CMags & BP as two of my handful of 166 characters (and thankfully I got my final black BP cover a few days ago in DDQ). If you try to run without two 240 supporting characters you're viewed as an easy win, just like the OP says.

On the plus side, your 240 supporting characters can sometimes get you past a team with one 4-star (depending on the 4-star). I took down some ~220 Prof X teams that I normally would have been reluctant to take on (beware the floating head) but it's odd when an opposing character health of about 7800 makes you think "Oh yeah, I can one-shot that with an AoE."

no real easy hulkbombing cause patch tanks green and red. but if u make only black tile matches it would work

well, I have no experience hulkbombing as is obvious. of course he would need to tank colors. poor hulk only has 2 black and 2 red. can't tell you how many green I've sold of his. next to one cap blue and one witch blue, hulk black is probably my most wanted *** covers that I need. amazing how far things have come along the last couple of months - joining a t100 pvp alliance really accelerates things.
