Some Encouragement - No shields to 1000

A little while back, I asked if it was possible to reach the 1000 mark in PVP without using a shield.
I've just done it in Teenage Riot.
Only the 2nd time I've reached 1000 points.
Got to around 790 points and hovered, while my health packs built up to 9.
Then did a push to 1000.
Only used 1 team :
C 's : Level 240
: Level 280
: Level 218
Currently knocked back to 818 points but that's ok 'cos I don't need any Steve Rogers covers and I've already got my Heroic 10-pack for the season.
(Pulled a in it, BTW)
If there's one piece of advice I can give for PVP, it's to level 2-3 characters rather than the whole group which I was doing previously.
Eg. Pick a character who is boosted for the week and pump ISO into them.

got back from a 2 week trip 5 days ago and really didn't know how pvp would go so I made sure alliance leaders knew if I missed some to kick me but playing only in the evenings maybe an hour or less a day I hit 1K 3 times - no hopping. I did put up 8 hr shields for score preservation but no hopping - was on vacation. all about boosted characters. daken event was easy with him tanking everything, Cyclops boosted and fist feeding. xpool event had thor and hood boosted and nefarious foes had hood/loki/cmags all boosted - left that one unshielded since it was between seasons. can definitely be done but easiest if you start your climb from the 700s instead of 500s or 600s (my experience). 600s is doable but might take all your health packs and if you don't have good targets, will likely take you too long and you'll get hit. key is the right team and getting good, high point targets, and speed.0

I was starting to run low on HP, so I decided to forego shields for this season. So far I am 3 for 3 in hitting 1000 without shielding at all. And I finished the first two over 800 and 850 at the end with a small final push. The third one is still on going.
I have a few 166s, but no usable 4 characters. 1000 without shields can be done, and pretty easily.
How I do it:
I climb early and float between 500-700. I try to get closer to that 700 before my final climb but don't start that climb until I have full Health Packs. Once I do, I use the AP boosts. So I start each match with 2 AP in each color (except TUs). This speeds up my climb a fair amount, decreases the likelihood of wiping to near zero, and saves health packs.
I also focus only on that climb, its important not to waste time, especially near or above 900.
I've done this with more than 24 hours out, less than 8 hours out, and somewhere in between.0 -
This is encouraging - I think I've got the personnel for it, but haven't planned it out properly. Seems like an early initial push is the key, and this PVP is a good test case since placement doesn't matter for me (LCap is maxed).
Thanks!0 -
Congratulations! If placement rewards were better, such as granting a 4* at top 25, or 50, would you fight valiantly for it?0

Thanks for the tip about the AP Boosts.
Will do that next time.
Sagapo : Yes .. If 4 were a top25-50 reward I would fight more and shield at the end.0 -

I have to disagree with your advice. Since there are 40 3*s, if you pumped ISO into 2-3 to take advantage of the boosts, then who are you planning to use all of the other weeks where your 2-3 aren't boosted? It's very short-term thinking for a game that has very slow progression. If you used those 2-3 characters in PVE, you're likely to face higher initial levels, which scaling would only increase. Then you've got 2-3 characters to try to carry a roster thru multiple nodes, with only 10 healthpacks.0 -
Congrats OP. Perfect example of asking for help and listening to the advice given. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.0

Thanks Lukewin.
What I actually meant was pick the Tier 1 or best of the characters that are boosted (and are covered properly) and level them0 -

My thoughts on this subject:
There are really few combos of 166s that can compete with boosted characters. The only one that really comes to mind from an offensive/defensive perspective is IF/Cyc. Some others work as purely offensive, but generally lack any teeth whatsoever from a scarecrow standpoint.
So my advice would be, feel free to max those two, because they can help you regardless of the boost list. Although even they struggle when the boost list includes multiple top tier or near top tier characters (i.e. KK/Cmags/BP).
After that, I have been pumping iso into the guys I use each week when boosted. To try and conserve where my iso goes, I've focused on allowing my personal top tier to go above 140, mid tier to 140, and bottom tier to 120.
Other Note: Cyc/IF/SW is an awesome 3* sim team. Great offensively, and their abilities make it really difficult for the AI to screw up. So, if nothing else, maxing Cyc and IF gives you 2/3rds of a very good sim team.0 -
Congrats OP and thanks for sharing your experience!
I'm a great supporter of the No Shield to 1000 tactic too and I proceed like you.
Usually I try to enter in the danger zone (between 800 and 1000) with at least 24h left. It's more quiet and then safer. But so early it could be dry in points sometime and then I have to wait to be closer to the end of the event. The run between 800 and 1000 is more dangerous thus.
Most often I don't shield once 1000 is reached (except when alliance needs the points): this way more people have a chance at 1000!
