How do I keep my interest level up?

I was recommended this game about 6 months ago by my cousin who was addicted to the game since it had come out. I asked if there was any game that I wouldn't get bored of in a day and he was certain this was unlike most mobile games. He was right and for the last 6 months I have been addicted as well.

I was in a huge roster slot bind early on as I progressed rapidly and used an old iTunes gift card to grant me hundreds of HP and I've been without worries of roster spots ever since. This was also due to the revamped sub-event reward system granting me HP almost daily which helps too. I have all the characters in the game now besides the 1*s and Devil Dinosaur (seriously does he ever pop up?). I have a couple hundred thousand ISO that I slowly siphon to my 3*s as I bring them all up together (current majority at lvl 127). Most of whom are either max covered or just a pair of covers away from being so.

Now to the point of my topic, how do I stay interested in this game? 4*s are very hard to come by in pulls and I am not one who tries to get 1-2 rank or 2000 progression reward to get one. I play this game at work since I have a considerable amount of down time but I now find myself uninterested in playing this game on my days off and even when I get home from work sometimes. I only do the 8 hour refresh PvE nodes with a little bit of grinding at the end and I wait until the last couple hours to play a PvP so that I rank high enough (which works quite well for me). I used to love DDQ and now I find myself forgetting to play it or finish the nodes. The game devs show no signs of wanting to bring any new PvE to the game, which I think is terrible on their part. The Ultron event was cool and I thought the Ant-Man event was a poor attempt at something new. I kind of want to step away from the game but I don't like the thought of coming back to the game with more characters introduced and being behind on HP points again and not being able to add them like when I was new to the game. I've been able to stay ahead of character releases and would rack up HP points well before another character comes out and not having to worry about being able to recruit them.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

First off.. don;t level evenly. If you have the Iso, bring a core of 4 or 5 to 166. This is what is going to get you 2k in shield sim, and regular 1k's in PVP.

Level them as they are featured/boosted, best bang for your iso.

trust me, the chase to 1k is interesting, and usually at most a net loss of 25hp, or if you get the 1k and merc, a net gain of 25-100hp.
  • I was in the exact same situation a few months ago, right down to the roster levels. I was looking at what I had, and the 10^7 ISO I needed to keep evenly leveling, and I realized it was just going to be a friggin grind for... well, years. I ended up starting a new account, and imposing some different challenges on myself. Specifically, FTP this time- DP3 already got a fair price from me, and it makes roster management more interesting. (Well, mostly FTP. Darn you, sales!) This also had to do with wanting to move to Steam, though, as mobile games suck up waay too much of my time.

I think Malcrof's suggest makes much sense, and will allow you to transition to a PvP style that still gives you progress, but with relatively low time commitment.

You are DEFINITELY an elite player by all means, which does create a unique situation. All I could suggest is try joining an alliance, build your 4* roster through 1k and 1300 finishes in PVP (which shouldn't be a problem for you), and if you do decide to lay-off, come back for the Marvel movie premieres. There is guaranteed to be new content at that time, which you saw with Ultron and Ant-Man Growth Industry. Anniversary Week takes place in October, and although the content is old, this week offers increased odds for 3* and 4* pulls, as well as cheap daily specials at 50 HP instead 100 HP. This is also the week where Devil Dinosaur covers are actually available! His drop rate is the highest as well. If you miss out on Anniversary Week, three of his covers are given away as daily rewards, and it sounds like you have no problem amassing the HP to make a spot available. Remember that in DDQ, though it may be boring, there is a good amount of ISO made available, as well as pulls from The Vault. You could be missing out on some good rewards (HP, ISO, 4*'s) by not taking advantage. You may not get something great everytime, but it's something for a relatively small amount of work. I hope my suggestions are somewhat helpful to you. You have certainly accomplished A LOT in such a short period of time!

You know what? All these freemium CCG-style games have a shelf life. Eventually you've played them, and played them, and played them, and you're just done. You can't play it any more. The fun's gone. The game structure moves to a point where it's all about keeping the mega-whales invested and starts leaving the casual players behind.

This is my fourth freemium rodeo. All three previous ones ended with me quitting when I stopped enjoying the treadmill to nowhere. I was in the middle of negotiating a card trade with another player in Star Wars: Force Collection when I stopped logging in. I couldn't play that game even one more day. It had completely worn me out. I didn't even bother messaging the guy that I had quit, or my alliance. I stopped cold turkey, uninstalled the game a few days later, and never touched it again.

Eventually that day will come for me with MPQ. Probably the day the first 5* character is released, because that will signal very bad things for anyone still trying to field a predominantly 3* roster.

Anyway, all I can suggest is, take a break. A few days, a few weeks, even. If you still enjoy the game, you'll want to pick it up again. If you're done, you're done. It's just a game.

Thanks for that information rawsu, I was wondering when this anniversary event happens considering I haven't been around for one yet. I never considered myself as an elite player as I do not use any of my 4*s (only a couple have more than 2 covers) and I do not regularly play PvP. I am able to hit 1300 in the simulator but I would hit about 1700 and not get any further as I am bombarded by others. I am also in a pretty casual alliance with my cousin and a bunch of his friends.

Looks like the general consensus of those that have answered believe I should get a team to the 166 mark now, which I will probably do with the team of Cyclops, Magneto, and Kamala. I do not get high scores in PvP events however, I just join late brackets and rank high with a lower score than most ppl would. I never liked shielding because I've strictly used HP for roster slots.

Optimus, that's kind of what I've been thinking, it's just a game. However, I've gotten very interested in Marvel the last few months. I've started reading the comics and learning more than just what the cinematic universe has to offer. I guess with that in mind it makes it a little more difficult to stop cold turkey. I'm still interested in the characters, just not the game as much I guess. I really like story mechanics of a game which is probably why I don't play a lot of PvP and frustrated by the lack of change in PvE. I'm also somewhat of a completionist, or was. I try to do everything I can in a game and get to an end-game meta/scenario. Yet as I get older I don't have time for that kind of dedication (can't even remember the last game I even accomplished this in really), which I know is perfectly reasonable and probably better off this way.

Yeah, my burnout level is reaching critical too. I can get to 1000 progression for a 4* on a semi regular basis, but not without buying a few shields along the way. That means 4*s are way too few and far between without eventually putting some real world cash in, and frankly, it is way too expensive for what you get. It is well obfuscated. Money to HP, HP to shields, shields for progression points, progression points to covers. But, it really isn't a good deal. It seems like it is since it is still a bit cheaper than buying covers outright, but that is like saying someone stealing your wallet is better than someone stealing your wallet and phone. Neither is "good."

Then we have story mode, which is a nightmare grind fest, and I've pretty much stopped playing there as well. I just can't make consistent progress in this new meta of 4*, and can't find the motivation to play a game I consistently lose unless I treat it like a full time job.

    I agree and disagree.

With weekly buffs, it is important to have a deep roster for PVP. You need to rely on the best weekly boosteds to have a shot against the top 4*s in PVP. So it's worth having everyone at 120-140is (really 130-140 for best results in PVP)

But there are still top tier 3*s, and it's basically never a bad a thing to level them. I can't think of a reason anyone would regret leveling cage, cyclops, or iron fist, as high as they can go. Those characters are powerful enough that they are often quite useful even when unboosted (especially iron fist). There are a few others that are supremely powerful when boosted, or have significant PVE value or or sustainability for long grinds that are also worth having above 130, like kk, blade, bp, switch, cmags, gsbw, lazy cap, and lazy thor.

    Agreed with Malcrof and Vhailorx.

If you look at my roster, I have 3 tiers of fully covered 3*. around 18 at 166, and the rest at 141 and finally 121.

Not gonna elaborate as Vhail already spelt out everything i want to say about the different levels of usefulness of 3*s. However, I can safely say Beast is never gonna get a level above 141 forever, unless I hit some ISO-8 jackpot for 3 million ISO. Even then I'd bring up the 4*s before beast, but i digress.

OP, a method that might keep your interest up in the game (which has helped me bypass the state-of-mind you're currently at) is actually completion in terms of levels of the 3*s (ironically, heh.)
I'll elaborate: Whenever a toon's (who is not levelled) PvP comes along, I would bring him/her/it up to either the 141 or 166, depending on his/her/it's current level. This has actually kept me going for about 5 months thus far, and I'm not too bored of the game yet.

Another good method (albeit more difficult and sometimes troublesome) is this: Consider becoming a commander of a PvP alliance. And make it your objective to help other players in your alliance build up their rosters. Cover and Level-wise. This has also helped me greatly stay involved in the game thanks to my teammates. There will always be newbies who need advice/help/a good kicking to get by, and your level of awareness and wisdom when it comes to MPQ can be passed down for the greater good (or evil) to your alliance mates. This is the strongest factor that has kept me going since season 8, when I was forced into commandership. And I'm still going strong even now. icon_e_biggrin.gif

Lastly, make it your life mission to never ever miss a single day of DDQ. Even if you already have the cover which is being featured that day. This method has helped the likes of me skip LR (I'm actually super lazy) and still bring my toons up. DDQ can actually be a melting pot of untried toon combos. Especially the wave node. I've honestly never had more fun with DareDevil during my term in MPQ. Recently I've been trying Xpool for it for teh lulz too! icon_mrgreen.gif

Give Marvel Future Fight a try. I play it pretty casually, and it helps get you that Marvel "fix" without having to jump into MPQ all the time. The best part about FF is that you can completely avoid PVP if you wish and not miss out on very much, and the in-game story will take quite some time to complete. I'm still only complete 5 of 8 chapters, as it does take a long time to level characters past the mid-20s. I've only made one $$ purchase, for a bit over $5, and used that plus a bunch of free crystals to jump-start a number of my characters there into 3* level. The mega-whales already have 6* ( icon_rolleyes.gif ) but since you're not in competition with them, it doesn't affect you much.

I do try to make all my daily achievements in FF because you get 25 crystals a day for doing that. Maintaining a modest PVP rank (top 50% or so) will get you another 100 or so a week. The best package deals start at around 1500 crystals so it doesn't take that long to save them up.

I saw that game being advertised a lot in personalized ad **** lol. But I was interested in seeing what it's about. My only concern is how much of a battery killer is it being a full action type game?

I've also recently discovered Marvel Heroes 2015 on Steam. Also free to play and it's pretty sweet.

I'm really excited about the new Spidey and Venom costumes in Future Fight. I had only been logging in for the Daily Rewards and the free Dimension chests for a while. But with the Secret Wars event going on, I've been trying to complete all the Crystal achievements to purchase the Venom costume. I managed to win enough crystals to buy the Spidey costume before having him on my team, but I stumbled Biometric Selector from one of the Quests. Then, I won Venom from failing a Dimension Rift. Now I just need to get enough FB friends to earn the last 350 crystals for the Venom costume.

Anyways, back to MPQ. Maybe it's not such a bad idea to take a break. I know I burnt out a few seasons ago, but when I came back I was still able to compete and collect the characters I had missed. Maybe when you come back there will be better prize distribution.

Try getting drunk before you play.
