Shields not working? Or people are cheating.

I posted this thread a while back and the general response seemed to be that scores just took a while to update so the info I had was not current. My latest experience makes me think that I may have been right when I suspected some form of cheating.

Based on my experience with the latest No Holds Barred tournament, I think it may be more then late-updating scores. With about 2 hours remaining in the tournament I purchased a 3 hour shield. I checked back when there was about 30 min left in the tournament and my match update popup shoed a few shielded matches that did not cost me points. I checked back just now (roughly 6 hours after the boost purchase and 4 after the tournament should have ended) to see if the prizes were out and the new popup showed a few shielded matches, one defensive win, and multiple matches that cost me points. So I somehow lost points in a tournament for which I should have been shielded until the end. I have send in a support ticket.

Has anyone else had an experience with losing points while you should be shielded past a tournament's end?

  • This is why i don't shield. Nothing in the game works "as intended" and everything you want to do costs money. This is literally more expensive than the whole collection of sims.
  • Yes, in the buffed Thor tournament I shielded for a day at exactly 12:05 am EST.

I logged back in the next night at 11:55 pm (5 minutes before tourney close) and had been unshielded and was attacked for -145 points.

Losing my place (no upper tier covers or HP) and wasting 400 HP.

I filled out a ticket (which they confirmed as received) but haven't heard back on it yet.
  • Any chance your phone's clock isn't the same as the server's clock?

The tournament didn't end 4 hours ago. The tournament ended two and a half hours before you first posted.

As was posted in the previous thread, your clock is likely incorrect.

Sounds like gaining points from the defense win unshielded you.

This should be looked at to see if it is a commonality among those with that problem.

Don't think this is it. I was shielded in the Thor tourney and received points from successful defenses, but I stayed shielded.

I'm playing on Steam, is the tournament time different than on phones?

My computer's clock isn't off by multiple hours. If that's the case, something is wrong with the game. The tournament ended at 9AM EST for me (2PM GMT), what time was it supposed to end?
  • Noon EST was when it ended IIRC. You should check to see if your computer isn't running on pacific time or something.

The tournament ended at noon EST.
  • I have never had shield not working when it's up. I always go by the time remaining on the page you purchase the shield, not my clock.

Just checked, it is set to EST. Which is a shame, because it would explain the time difference exactly.

(Stupid question, but I'll ask.) Do you actually live in EST?

Do you somehow VPN through PST? (I don't know if that information is even transmitted.)

For whatever reason, the game server likely believes you're on PST. Do you know why that could be?

I don't know how the game tries to know what time zone you're in, but CS might. If you haven't already, contact support and mention time zones and clocks.

I do live in EST. icon_e_biggrin.gif

Although you do raise a good point. I will submit a ticket asking about that. thanks for the advice.
  • I'm on PST and the 'time left' indicator on the tournament page has always been correct. That's always the time reference I use to judge anything related to timing.
