Why does using your phone's camera FORCE CLOSE the game?

If I had a dollar for every time I had to quickly take a picture of something or text someone a picture or accidentally hit the picture button on the side of my phone or someone Skyped / Face Timed me and it made me crash in the middle of a match........

  • It's a phone memory issue - if your phone memory is too low, other apps will crash the game.

This is how the game decides how agressive to make the AI.

This. My old phone sometimes didn't even manage something as simple as swapping to the MSM app when I got a text without crashing. Most high profile mobile games nowadays are memory hogs so they're the first thing that the OS kills when it is getting choked.

To be fair, MPQ has greatly improved its memory usage from when it was initially launched.

Yeah, I had the same problem with my Nexus 5. After upgrading to the Nexus 6 though my phone has a lot more RAM and now MPQ continues to run even after opening 4-5 other apps.

Unfortunately the best way to fix the problem is to upgrade to a new phone with more RAM or a better phone that doesn't have OEM junk running in the background. If you have root, there are ways to force your phone so that it doesn't unload certain apps when in background, but it could potentially cause even more problems with your phone's memory management.

I am using a brand new Galaxy 6, with I think a 20gb memory card or something ridiculous, like that.

I can all but guarantee it IS NOT my phone's memory shortage. lol

That is only explanation that we've ever been given or experienced?

Your memory card is not ram. My guess is your phone clears out all the ram to handle rapid shooting in lots of megapixels.
  • I have an S6 as well and it is known to have memory issues (not storage issues, but RAM/memory issues). You got to be careful switching apps while playing MPQ or you might just end a match from the ram issues. This should be fixed in the android 5.1 update.

The solution, of course, is to have no friends that will text or Skype you and interrupt your mpq

Yeah, Samsung phones are known to have a lot of "add-on" to the Android system which used to cause their older phones to run poorly (not trying to bash Samsung, just a fact since I've used a few of their phones). I guess they have tried to fix this issue in newer phones by aggressively managing background apps. Anyway Android 5.1 itself does have much better memory management so hopefully that will fix it.

Ironically, I have the "cheap" Galaxy Avant and haven't had that problem at all.

But yeah, it's pretty common for your photo to micro-manage your RAM usage in the background and kill any background apps that are hogging up resources, especially when you open another resource heavy application (like your camera).

I've been experiencing some similar problems recently, MPQ is forced closed whenever a FB messenger chat notifies a new message has been received. If I mute FB chat, I can receive all the messages I want and they don't force MPQ to close. I can also receive notifications for anything else - phone call, sms, twitter, etc. - and again, MPQ is not forced closed.

This change was only very recent, and it comes following an updates to both the Messenger app and MPQ only a few days ago. I think it's probably messenger, since the chat bubbles used to stay hidden under MPQ, then they appeared over the top, then hidden again, now crashing MPQ.

FWIW, I'm using a Nexus 5 with root. I use a few tools to manage cache/memory, but usually only perform a clean up once a week. Even now with MPQ & Messenger running, I've still got nearly 80% RAM free, so I think it's unlikely that notifications are using more than a GB at a time.
