Anyone still only try to use characters they like?

Not just if they're powerful? I made that loose promise to myself when I started playing, but it has slowly been broken, like keeping 4 stars no matter what (except starlord blech) or characters who I don't know, but look cool and I ended up getting a lot of. I've tossed probably about 5 luke cage covers since I've started because I only knew him really from marvel zombies and I thought he was an unlikable jerk during that (yes, I'm not an avid comic reader.) But now that I've learned he's one of the 10 best characters in the game, I'm really torn on whether to keep the two I have knowing that I don't really like the character.

With weekly buffs I primarily use some combination of buffed characters. I my favorite character is wolverine and I only use Patch against seed teams, LR, and trivial PVE nodes unless he is buffed. He true heals so I don't need to worry about using health Packs. I actually think the game is more fun trying out different combinations. I just got my 5th blue SW so I have been running her with Deadpool in PVP and PVE even though she is not buffed. It is fun to use characters you like but the buffs and synergy is not always there. I say collect them all and try new characters. I love Ben use doc pick on occasion, then I relive why I don't and shelve him for a month

He's really a fun character in the comics, though. He once invaded Latveria in order to collect $100 that Dr. Doom owed him:

His run with Iron Fist was seriously good, though.

For me, it's not a matter of liking characters. If you look at my roster, you'll see that I have every character in the game (only missing antman blue cover right now). Early on I made a conscious decision to customize my roster to place well in pve events, and thus that led to a decision to do the pokemon and catch em all. icon_lol.gif

You could certainly use only your favorite characters, but that may lead to excessive use of heal packs if you have better alternatives in your roster. To each his own I guess. icon_cool.gif
  • Yeeah, I know what you mean, 20three. Back when I started playing (it wasn't that long ago, but still) I tried to do the same: only to keep the characters I liked/was familiar with. That surely doesn't work all that well. It's a game after all. However, precisely because this is a game we should probably think mainly about enjoying it. Unless you're aiming to be the best of the best top-1 PVP and all that, there are always options. Problems only arise when it's about really, really powerful essential chars like Luce Cage. For me it was Blade. I don't like him. I never liked the movies, I'm not a fan of all that vampire-hunter thingie and on top of that I don't think Blade actually fits into the overall Marvel superheroes theme. But man, he's strong. So I'm keeping him, for now. Still, nothing in this world will make me keep She-Hulk, even if she somehow becomes the most powerful character in the game. Not happening.

Anyway, it is also possible that playing the game will motivate you to read more about a certain character you weren't familiar with before. There are so many writers/artists/parallel universes in Marvel, that there's almost always a version you'd like.

I keep characters that I like and characters that are good, generally speaking, but if I'm not terribly fond of them and they're not very good, I usually ignore them.

Example: Really like Psylocke and Punisher - neither are "top tier" but they're fun, so I keep them - however characters like The Sentry, who I consider an interesting character, but by no means a favorite and has fallen out of favor, well, I don't keep him.

If I have HP for a slot and I win someone I don't have, I usually bite the bullet and roster them regardless. When I get someone I want, either because I like that character or because they're good, I'll just get read of extra weight.

Sometimes this happens with kinda random guys too, like, in the last run of the Ultron event, you could use 1* Iron Man for the IM Essentials, so I opened a few Standard Tokens and rostered a 1* IM for the event - I'm keeping him for now in case another situation like this happens, but if I need the slot it's an easy kick.

That being said, if you do like some of the less-than-awesome characters, it's not all a lost cause - buffed weakly rotations make pretty much everyone really good for their buffing period (Heck, even Gamora is good when she's buffed!). I also typically field a lot of these guys in like DDP or on the easier PvE/PvP nodes.

My favorite Marvel character is Professor X, and I'm glad I can use him everyday at least a dozen times. If D3, ever broke his supporting characters, I might have to consider stop playing. Because it is very difficult to play the hard nodes otherwise for me. The scaling is terrible (it was worse with community) and my main roster is even at level 150. So the only way to play most level 300 enemies is to use Professor X and his crew.

To really play this game, you will want to shell out money for roster slots to keep a full 2*/3*/4* collection. I keep three 1*s for DPD and All-stars. It sounds like Bagman will never be required, so he can be skipped. I have him currently, but seems like he is a sell. Biggest reason to have a full collection is to unlock all essential nodes. It will make a difference between Top 20 vs Top 100 especially on the events that you really want that reward. I bought dozens of 42x packs and in retrospective, that was only worth it for the $300 toward Professor X.

Do you have Iron Fist? He is meant to pair with Luke Cage for a full kick face, Jab-Jab face usually taking down all opponents in one turn with 15 purple + 18 black. Iron Fist purple will create black tiles if you have less than 12.

Pretty much any character has some greatness to him that allows you to play if surrounded by the right team. Except maybe Vision. I am always surprised to see him in PvP. I'll take him on anytime since he's not a threat.

Every whale has 270 5/5/3 Hulkbuster, and I'm jealous, but I'm also not afraid of it. I've even taken down a boosted 350 Hulkbuster with a boosted Daken+Falcon 220 team without damage.

I use to play Falcon everyday against goons, but then found better ways. But then I was able to rediscover Falcon during Top Gun. This happens all the time. A boosted version will easily let you put faith in a character once again.

Right now playing an event against Hood makes me want to use him, but I've been stuck at 5/3/3. Really need 5/5/3 to get him going. Actually 3/5/5 would rock with Kingpin + Witch.

When I started I tried to use only "good" characters, but after maxing several red / yellow / green characters I turned to the dark side with Daken so I actually had more coverage than three colours. Thankfully there is a better range of colour coverage these days

I started playing with the same philosophy, that I want the Marvel characters that I actually liked (or remembered for that matter), but this soon went out the window. First off, I didn't recognize every character in the game due to being away from comics for around two decades. Second, I quickly developed an eye for abilities over character preference. When I started playing this game, I didn't know ANYTHING about Moonstone, Daken, Ares, Yenela, Hood, or Ragnarok. After seeing the characters in action, however, I saw I liked Ares and Moonstone, so I added them to my roster when I got the chance. Daken soon followed after he was given his blueflag.png ability. I then saw Ms. Marvel added to the list, another character I knew nothing about. After seeing her abilities, I added to my roster as well. I've kind of followed this philosophy up until this point, whether I know the character well or not. What can they bring to the table if I add them to my roster? This has especially been the case after learning about the cost and value of roster slots. Only the best of the best (in my opinion) will be added to my roster.

You can like someone as much as you want but if you get a powerful characters covers first...

In off-season events, sure. Love opening seed teams with characters I like. Easy PVE runs I like to do that as well (no thanks to heroics....or to roster slot prices which make me sell many of the fun 2*'s)
  • I still use my She Hulk. One of the first maxed 3 stars for me cause I got a thing for the green lady!! That was even before her buff!! And the buff could have been a bit buffier but I still play her at least a few times a week....

My favorite Marvel character is Black Panther, so I'm glad he's good!

Fun story; he was my last 3 star to obtain and I had sadly gone several Deadpool's Daily's without being able to get him. So when his Black cover came around my husband surpised me with some extra HP, and we had only ever bought roster slots before. I got lucky and pulled a Yellow and Black cover from a 10 pack and could earn another Black cover on the same day!

He's now 4/3/5 and very fun to use. ^_^
  • I somewhat went in with a philosophy like this. My favourite Marvel character is Iron Man, and I was overjoyed when he was the first 3* character I fully covered (and subsequently raised to 166). I was less than overjoyed when this raised my PvP bracket and discovered his powers are way too expensive to ever really be viable for PvP. That was a difficult time for me lol.

I've since moved on to Rogers and recently also got Scarlet Witch to max level and am enjoying it but sometimes I'll look at poor Tony in my roster and think of what could have been if the devs hadn't decided to make him so terrible. There's always Hulkbuster but I haven't been able to earn a single cover yet icon_e_sad.gif
