I'd like to participate in this mental exercise, but I'd feel that it would fall on death ears.

Moonstone looks good firing a laser
  • Sometimes I play the missions with yelena just so I can "web" her....and I'm not using Spider-Man!
  • I enjoy it, always have and still do.

This new PvE event isn't great, really isn't worth my time. So I just don't play it, I'm sure they'll make adjustments for the next one.

I love the new system where you don't get 3 chances to knock off a team. Makes defense much easier, and places added emphasis on it. Anything that adds strategy is probably a good thing for me.

I love the Wolverine and Thor nerfs. I see far more diverse teams now, makes for a richer playing experience.

    Get in line, pal.
  • What people often see as defence of something is quite often more patience with something. It is not the only game I play, thus I have patience with it. It also helps I am a sucker for playing collector.

Apart from the wonky scaling and slightly punishing downtime, I also find the game quite enjoyable.

It's a game. It's meant to be fun and enjoyable. If it isn't, take a break and come back to it a later time. Playing any game too much will always sap the fun out of it.

Also, for the one saying Funcom has bad customer support, I will beg to disagree. However, customer support questions always tend to be utterly flavoured by personal anecdotal evidence, so I guess that might be it for both sides. I always have had excellent help there. Not been in contact with customer support here, haven't needed them. Guess it also helps to know what to expect, and what your own responsibilities for your game time is.

I am probably the individual here with the most hate towards the development team over their actions the last few weeks... But I like to look at this logically instead of emotionally, so please give me your reasons for defending this game..I will not reply or make fun of any answer...i am curious what the thinking of some of these players are who still think this game is great...So go ahead, give me your wors...err best reasons to love this game.

If you really feel hate towards a development team of a game, maybe you should take a step back and take a chill pill. I mean really. Just like the developer silence, the constant 'this game sux' threads aren't helping the situation at all. People seem to have totally lost perspective. I mean, yes, there have been some mess ups in the last weeks, but you guys make it sound as if the world exploded. The game is still cool, and with a few tweaks here and there it could be great yet again. I mean if you can find really nothing about this game that's good, why are you still wasting your time on this board?

Have some patience with the game. People nowadays seem to want everything instantly....

So despite the trollish OP I'll still name some things I like (I'll leave the things out that I don't like since there's plenty of threads for that)

    - the PVP is actually better now than in the tanking era. deliberately losing is stupid - period. MMR is still a problem and some things became harder because tanking doesnt' work anymore, but that's the same for everybody.
    - changing from 3 tries to one was a improvement, even if it's sometimes annoying to lose a match and points, but a game's supposed to be challenging, no?
    - they keep adding new characters (yes, daredevil is a bit of a let down, but the trap tiles are an interesting concept that could be expanded)
    - premium currency is given out much more freely than in most other f2p games I know
    - the wolverine/thor nerf were well thought out and balanced...both characters are still powerful, just not OP as before.
    - the basic underlying game is still the same as a month ago....and that was a great game

If it's not fun you're taking it all too seriously.

That and the players are so hooked that when they give up the game they still can't break their addiction to the forums here.

  • I don't think "it's just a game" is a valid defence.

I mean, is my life any worse off since this game tanked over the last couple of weeks? No, of course not. But no one came to these forums to talk about me. We're all here to talk about the game, and there isn't much positive to say about it right now.

And the "if you don't enjoy it, stop playing it" argument falls a bit short too considering just how much time, effort and enjoyment players have put in to this game. I'd say that if you're the type that will just walk away because it's not fun right now, you probably didn't have that much fun before things went to ****. For those of us that were having a good time with it, we're upset because we're being pushed away from a game we still want to enjoy.
  • Taking a break and stepping back for a bit is not the same as quitting by any measure. Most games actually benefit from that approach in my experience.

You want to enjoy it, that is good. And very nice. You do not at the moment, it seems. Taking a week or two away from it to see if anything happens meantime, sparing yourself the frustrations you feel is not a bad thing.

Perhaps I am far more of an optimist than I normally see myself as, but I do not think anyone aims to tank their own game. There are serious matchup issues at the moment. Do I think they work on it? Indeed I do. I do not believe that just because someone has had the audacity to not speak for a few days on a forum that they have packed their bags with money and run off into the sunset. It's not a 1960's cartoon. I also expect a solution to be out when it is ready. And meantime, it is actually better to not give anyone a deadline when that is going to be, just because things can still go wrong along the path there.

To quote other companies: Wait and see (tm)

I've had so much fun with this game that I've put down money, not just for myself, but for my wife and elementary aged son (character slots for him. He loves having the different characters.) There's not a single free to play game I've ever done that.

As for my real defense? I'm a Cleveland sports fan, which has provided me with some experience in the realm of bad entertainment products. While the fans in Cleveland are among the most passionate, loyal fans anywhere, they make life a nightmare on the management. We're cheap, demand coaches and quarterbacks get fired after 3 bad games then don't understand why players don't want to stay here.

You can watch games for free at home. You can spend a bit and get cheap seats or the really passionate people buy the suite package. Just because the star player gets traded or injured doesn't entitle the ticket holder to a refund. (Trent Richardson trade anyone?)

MPQ is running through a rough spot. If I have to wait a couple weeks before things get ironed out, so be it. I have confidence MPQ will get fixed, unlike the Browns or Cavaliers.
  • I don't spend money on games aside from a reasonable initial purchase price. So for me, I have had countless hours of free enjoyment. Granted, I would agree the gameplay has seen far better days, but I still have only gained from D3's hard work. I have my own thoughts on what make this game better, but they don't stem from anger or rage about a change they opted to make.
  • A lot of companies have experimented with moving their IP into a more social context. There have been some really stunning successes and some mind-bogglingly spectacular failures. This game is still in the middle. With the earlier PQ installments, you could play enough to get everything in the game. I've played the original PQ more than I care to admit, enjoying the alternate ending, farming for runes, etc. For me, the match 3 mechanic was excellent.

In this installment, the social elements force the devs to take away a lot of the fundamental mechanics that made many of us enjoy PQ. Now I have to play on their schedule, using their rules, and even then, I will never see all the content (i.e. I am simply incapable of getting all the 4* covers I'll need b/c I don't have the time or money). It's been stated before that f2p games are hard to design well, and D3 didn't follow the tried and true mechanics for social f2p games. The game itself is still fun, I still enjoy the base mechanics and I really enjoy the character diversity. I will defend those aspects of the game. However, the failed design of the social mechanics are much harder to defend. It has the feel of the old-style Japanese RPG grinds (like Disgaea, which I love) but unfortunately they layered time tables on top of the grind making it nearly impossible for a western audience.

    Just my rambling 2 cents.

    @Riggy

Best defense so far. I want to love this game apparently they are still tinkering but sad to say the game is near unplayable right now. I think the Hulk mission was a great model. Everyone gets to play a fair increased difficulty and the best players with great teams will win, as any game with progression is modeled to do. Looks like they don't know where this game is supposed to go. And maybe they are trying different models of money making tactics which is why they won't tell us what's going on. Hint: they want to fleece more money from us but won't tell us. In the meantime enjoy a broken game!

Funny. Earlier rant I deleted without posting could've been paraphrased "This is the dumbest, most obfuscated, least entertaining nonsense a game's ever expected me to suffer through, and I like Nippon Ichi!". Thought maybe the parallel was a grind-induced hallucination, but apparently not.

I've sunk so many hundreds of hours into Disgaea 1-4, plus I bought 1 again as Afternoon of Darkness, and I just picked up Disgaea D2 (though I've only dropped 30 or so hours into it). Disgaea 5 will be what pushes me into the next gen of consoles. I would qualify myself as a huge Nippon Ichi fan. In those games, I could sit down, and grind for 10 minutes or 3 hours and feel like I enjoyed it.

Here though, the refresh timings, the overall event durations, the relative placement due to other player's play time, and a host of other mechanics makes this game far more cumbersome than anything Disgaea has ever thrown out there (and yes, I'm including grinding resets for the Meowkin pirates in D4).

I think the biggest problem is the underlying assumption that 4*'s should be "rare" as opposed to "difficult but achievable". That underlying assumption makes all resulting design decisions sub-par. I doubt any player would complain if everyone could eventually achieve a max level X-Force or IW. Rarity is more for ccgs, which this is not. If they made the heroic Oscorp a permanent pve event, where 50+ hours of grinding resulted in the same level of progression rewards, I think the whole community would be happy, even with the current difficulty levels.

Now that I've rambled all this out, I've convinced myself that the arbitrary construction of "rarity" is what is breaking the design.
  • I love this game, warts and all.

Tile matching + RPG leveling + PVP competition + Marvel universe = NERDGASM

Could things be better, no question.

But the thick layer of dust on my xbox and the fact I've been listening to TV shows for the past two months instead of watching them since I'm too busy playing MPQ leads me to say things are pretty good as is.
