Probably everyone knows this already, but I want to share something I discovered yesterday about the AI and stuns when playing this event.

We know that when two or more opponents share an active colour, it makes a choice when it has the smallest amount needed as to whether it's used now, or saved up for one of the higher-cost powers.

I had a situation where the AI had enough green for Thing's Yancy Street, but didn't use it, then got 3 more, enough for Thor's Call the Storm. Now, I'd much rather the former, and I had enough red, so I tried something. I Clobbered Thor, stunning him, made my move, and the AI immediately fired off Yancy Street.

It looks like the AI includes only active (i.e. ignores the stunned) characters when working out which powers are available to use.

Like I said, probably everyone already knows this, but after 450 or so days of play, I didn't.
if anything, it helps the roulette decide:
normally, assuming 2 characters sharing colors - do I save for the bigger ability or use the smaller?

when stunned, the computer has less of a choice: can't use X ability, so do I want to use Y?

It is a good way to make the CPU do stuff you want vs what you don't.

EDIT: Just Shield hopped for 16 points. Am I doing it wrong? Is it just cuz I don't have maxed 4* boosted I have a sign on my back that says 'KICK ME'?

edit 2: ok, I lied, I shield hopped for 27 points because I won a defensive battle icon_rolleyes.gif

There's some weird teams out there. I've seen about a dozen occurrences of single cover Ant-man, the latest one paired with a single cover (black) X-Force. I'm almost embarrassed to fight, but hey it's 34 points and from the state of the roster I'm not likely to lose the retaliation.
Not really something to be embarrassed about, sometimes players want pvp rewards but have no means of competing with most, especially in 1 star land and early 2 star land.
Their probably just hoping for some iso or something.
I don't think moon was pointing it out for the sake of embarrassment, just that this PVP was less entrenched in the same flavor.

It's good that people are pointing out their observations that teams are much more varied(and easier to take down!) in this PVP. I assume there's folks who're excited to try out the Thing and possibly win him, so Kombatants will come out of the woodwork

By "embarrassing" I meant it's like shooting a baby or taking candy from a fish in a barrel. Too easy.
  • Couldn't manage 1000 points.... I don't have the 4* characters to scare people from attacking me...slid back down to 800 points and put on 24 hour shield to try and get some scott covers at least...kinda frustrating to see 4* teams unshielded around me while I've gotta shield and still get attacked like crazy

still might not even get cyke covers b/c ppl are so crazy about scoring now....when I was unshielded last event went down to 600 and same event before that....

    c'est la vie I guess

they need to improve retaliations or limit the number of attacks or something...

Yep, I understand your frustration. I failed my 2nd attempt at 1000 just now.

I tried my usual strategy: climbing from 800 to 1000 straight without shielding. This way I'm used to massive retaliations and I know I have to reach 1000 quickly before being hit! icon_e_surprised.gif

Unfortunately for this PvP, I saw very few players in my nodes and my fights were often rewarding less than 30 pts. Only retaliations may be more rewarding.

Consequently I never managed to climb fast enough before the big -150 / -200 retaliations...
... and I hit the same players several times too!. Usually I try not hitting the same player more than twice, but this time it seems we are only 5 or 6 players in the arena icon_eek.gificon_e_confused.gif

With a new 4 star, scarlet witch progression and cyclops placement rewards, this event was always going to be hard. I think climbing a day or two out and then shield hopping is the only way to hit 1000 points.

I started this event about 30 hours out from the end and started getting hits at 900ish points, shielded up just before 150 point lost bounced off my shield. Was a close one. Currently shielded in 13th place with 1107 points using three 8 hours and a 3 hour shield and 3 hours left in the event. Hope its enough to keep me in top 25.

Ldaken and Kamala got me to 800 where I have shielded.

Never understood why as soon as I shield the attacks just sorta stop.

Anyhow 1hour shield on the wishlist. Just enough to get you out of the firing line when it heats up.

It stops because when you shield, you are taken out of the nodes... So you are no longer visible to anyone. People can only hit you if they have kept you in the nodes prior.

I manage to get to 1300 much easily this time, because I manage to max my IMHB this week. Only took 8-3-8, and considering I getting 2 4* covers, it is very worth it.

two 4* is well worth the price of 3 shields. How many matches do you have during hops? I guess a max boosted hulkbuster must give even strong rosters some pause.

That explains it. Thanks. Sorta suspected that was happening with the hits dramatically reducing. Anyway the shield got me 53rd.

Been just short of 1K but realistically need to level some of my team to hit it. Guess I'll go spend some Iso now.
  • This PvP has been more fruitful than several PvEs combined... and all within two days. Ever since I achieved 1k points I've got:

    blackflag.png Bullseye 3* (token)
    greenflag.png Scarlet Witch 3* (800 prog)
    greenflag.png The Thing 4* (1000 prog)

And depending on my placement (still hanging to top25) I can add 1-2 Cyclops covers to that pile. Makes you wonder why those 7-day long PvEs give such **** rewards especially if you compare time and effort spent between PvP and PvE...

yeah its a rough PVP and its frustrating.....Hulkbuster and Professor X are my only real needs.....otherwise I'm just putting iso into 4*....

and to top it off, everyone is still shielded so even if I wanted to unshield I'd probably just go negative again. And I'll only be getting 1 Cyke cover for my troubles if I'm THAT lucky.... icon_cry.gif

that's exactly what I did, buddy - I just wasn't smart, fast, or powerful enough I guess. It seems like the 4* players in my bracket made it just fine so I guess I need 4* to get 4*.

Catch 22 c'est la vie blah blah blah

I'm just hoping next PVP, even though its same powered up characters, I can at least get to 1000/1300 then stop caring since placement isn't a realistic goal
  • I just reached 1000 for the first time in the last 4-5 months. It's not that I was unable before, but it always felt like too much work. Used a 3h and 8h shield, but I am unshielded now since I don't care about the other rewards, so if you see me, hit away and reach for the top.

Update: And as I write this and check The Thing's abilities, I am hit for 265 points in under 6 minutes!!! Wow, pvps are crazy these days. I think it is funny that getting the top 2 covers of the 3* is more difficult than getting the 1000 progression 4* cover.

I only went 2 games in between hops. I know some people have gone 3 games... It depends a lot on roster strength, and more importantly on timing. If you are lucky, you can be unshielded for 5+ mins and no one hits you because it is within the middle of the shield duration.

And yes, a max IMHB will give people pause... And also give me more time for me, since its tough to chew through that 20k hp.

So that's about 80 points per hop or more. So for two hops you will need to throw up your first shield at 1140 or three hops will be at 1060. Hmm guess its not really achievable without a four star team

Where are you pulling 80 points from? Unless you are one of the front runners, you can easily get 100-130 points off of a two match hop.

I guess I need to learn how to find the 50-75 pt matches after I'm at 1000. very few players up there and the ones that are there are shielded 97% of the time, so finding the one guy that's in his hop as been pretty hard for me during the times I've been that high. if its out of game comm, ok I guess, but without that, how else? luck? constant scrolling through queues? saving a node early of someone you know will be there later? my queues cycle through the same damn teams and are usually 25-35 points the few times I've made it over 1000.

    Two word, battle chat.

It is possible to hit 1300 without Battle chat, but it just means more scrolling through nodes during the whole shield duration, which means more checking (and more iso).
