Pros and cons of joining late in PVE/PVP

I see some posts regarding joining PVE and PVP late and getting some decent placement rewards. I haven't had the guts to try this yet. I think I'll try it on short PVE where I don't care much about the rewards to see where I place. I think I'll also wait to try joining a PVP late after I get my season 10 pack.

Questions are

1) will 2 to 3 star transitioner get slammed with level 270 opponents in PVP?

2) Is there an optimal time to wait before a PVE ends and then joining? I think I read that for PVP it's 1 to 2 hours

3) Any other concerns that I may be overlooking?

Thanks!

  • I've been hearing about this joining late to get better placements and I will be giving it a shot after this falcon event is over. Now as far as getting slammed by lvl 270 characters depends on if another person does the same thing as you and start late. But I wouldn't count on seeing them as someone with a high level character could still compete in a normal bracket for rewards and still finish t50 easily.
  • Also I forgot to join I heard is still the same 1-2 hours before it ends. But pve is a bit tricky as you won't rack alot of points for rewards but maybe just getting that one cover. I'd say just play pve normal and just play as best as possible and try your luck with pvp getting covers

You should definitely try joining PVE and PVP events late. I've been joining PVP events on the very last hour and most of the time I get a new bracket, where 400 pts can get you Top 100, sometimes even Top 50. You shouldn't worry about 166 teams hitting you, in my experience that only happens when you get to 500+ points, and they will be looking for teams that give 40+ points, which you don't have because you're just starting out.

Joining PVE events late is a bit trickier, though it can be very rewarding for the time you've spent. There was a Heroic event before (the one with Nick Fury Top 2 reward) where I joined the very last slice with 6 hours left, and was able to grind to #3. Then the recent Simulator event, where I joined the 1st time slice with 5 hours left on a fairly new bracket, and was able to get Top 150 by grinding only the Easy nodes and the Falcon essential node.

Of course, your alliance may not want you joining late icon_e_wink.gif especially when it's a 4* on the line.

If going simply for a t100 reward for a cover, and not worrying about hitting 1k.. join 3 1/2 hours before it ends. You will usually get a fairly fresh bracket, seed teams (sometimes 2 rounds).. play until you are top 50 or higher, which can be very easy in a fresh bracket, and by the time you are where you want to be, it will be under the 3 hour mark, and just shield.

the last 2 hours are snipers sniping each other, so they climb slowly.. get to 50ish and shield with 3 hours left, almost guarantees a cover (almost always)

PVE: Check the Bracket posts to see when a fresh bracket opens. Unfortunately many players do this now so time slices fill very slowly than they use to. I normally do this for 5-7 day events because it's annoying to grind everyday and not place T150. Many times you can easily place T150, but you might have to grind hard to reach the final progression reward (unless you don't need it). However, the con is that you can also be placed in a nearly full bracket and start at rank 900! It's risky but can be worth it, it's helped me reach T50 with little grind.

PVP: I use to always start at the last hour or two, play nonstop and hit T100. Now it's reverse, I find myself entering the day before and slowly hitting points until the last hour or two to reach T50 then shield to finish T100. Entering at the last hour or two can be risky, especially if it's a difficult cover everyone wants such as Hood or Black Panther. However, if the PVP is for someone everyone has or does not want like Spiderman or Beast then starting at the last hour or two normally can land you T100.

It's all risk versus reward. It is definitely worth trying. When it works, it's great and when it doesn't then you're grinding but you were probably always grinding anyway! icon_lol.gif

    simple answers

PVP join the last hour if you want to get around 600 - 700 pts with none to few attacks. you should hit top 100.. If your Very lucky and hit a fresh bracket might take top 5

PVE..... wait till the first bracket fill and then jump in the 2nd bracket on a 3 day event.
Wait until the first bracket fill and then either jump into the 2nd bracket or hope there is a 3rd bracket on a 4 day event ( I have yet to see 3rd brackets open on a 3 day event) The groot had less then 2 days to go and we still dont have 700 people in slice 2 and its filling very slowly and will be lucky to get a 3rd bracket in.. i know the last 4 day event we stopped at 998 people at the end

Hi, I'm a 2 to 3 star transitioner. I can tell you my experience with from last season and hopefully, you can figure out where you stand with your roster. FYI: I had no fully covered 3 stars (15 characters about 8-11 covers, soft-capped at level 102-104).

    1) will 2 to 3 star transitioner get slammed with level 270 opponents in PVP?

Yes, after a certain progression point level, I was open for all opponents. I was able to sit between 400-500 points with getting one or two hits. I imagine the better your roster, the higher you could sit without getting slammed. Once I passed 500 points, I started seeing more and more hits. My wall is between 650 and 750 - meaning I couldn't win fast enough to the amount of points lost. With shields, I can go to 750.

    2) Is there an optimal time to wait before a PVE ends and then joining? I think I read that for PVP it's 1 to 2 hours.

I don't have much to offer with PVE because I join with 1-2 days after a slice starts for 3-4 day events because I want the progression rewards. For 7 day events, I play the last 3-4 days. Always make minimum T150 two clears each sub. Probably your best bet is to check the posts on bracket info under the Events in the forum.

For PVP: Last season, I joined 4 events between 1 to 2.5 hours before the end of a slice and got T100 2 out of 4 times. So, I guess it's hit and miss joining late?

    3) Any other concerns that I may be overlooking?
I'm still trying to figure things out, so anyone let me know if I'm overlooking things.

    Cheers.
