Ok, with this new scoring for PvP, I've seen scores as high as 2082. Does anyone have any tips? I get to 750-775 and get hit so much that I can barely make it to 800. I use shields too and still can't top past 800. Any tips would be very much appreciated. Thanks all.

What sort of roster are you working with? What sort of teams do you usually use?

hard to say without knowing your roster. Here are some general rules of thumb that seem to apply to most pvp in my experience

    (1) You will be attacked once you are worth the points. if your team is very weak, expect attacks frequently after 600 points. If you have a strong team (something close to 240/240/290, or good, well covered 4*s) you can go as high as 800 without getting too many attacks. Above 900, just about any team is fair game.

(2)when you play matters a lot. If you are in a prime US time slice, then playing at 3AM eastern US time is much much easier than playing at 8PM. Similarly, people know how long the shields last, so expect more action at 24/8/3 hours before any slice ends.

    (3) having an underleveled feature characters, or using weekly boosted characters below level 200 invites many more attacks.

Assuming your roster is good enough, try climbing to your equilibrium point (the highest point value at which you can sit unshielded for any length of time), probably around 600 or so. Wait there until you have a fully healthy roster and all 10 health packs. Pick your best couple of teams and then start a mad rush (preferably in off-peak hours). Climb as high as you can with all 10 health packs, this should be 850+ and ideally above 900. Don't start a match after you reach 900 (it's even money that you would be hit back during that match). Instead hrow up a 3-hour or 8-hour shield as your schedule dictates. Wait at least 30 minutes, or longer if you need more healthpacks. Spend that time checking the leader board to see if anyone above you makes a shield hop. With a little luck and some iso skipping, you should be able to line up one or two high value nodes that will get you up to 1k. when you are ready, make a shield hop to 1k, and then fall back or shield to protect your score for your alliance as necessary.

If you have a weaker roster, it will be harder to do two matches per shield-hop. And if you didn't reach 900 in your initial rush, then you may need to hop more than 1 time to reach 1k.

As background, I'm fairly new (120 days) in the 2-3 transition w/ 5-10 3*s sitting w/ 8-10 covers and at level 94. Best are Loki, CMags, KK (5/0/5), Cage, Shulk, Patch, LThor (4/0/4), Mystique, BP. Having a very tough time getting to 800 in progression (haven't used shields), so thought I'd a different approach until I build up my roster a bit more. Point #2 above addresses my main question - when to play and if joining a non-prime time slice is the best way to go to get rewards at this point in my transition. Note that I'm in a PVE-focused Alliance and have been earning full progressions, Top100, and alliance rewards that way.

For PVP, I've read that Slices 1 and 5 are typically less popular, so join them for Placement and join 3 and 4 for Progression. But, end times vary, so I am not sure if that holds. I also don't know how long I should wait to join before the end time? For example, it's Monday at 4pm EST now and in the Hood PVP the Slices end Tuesday at 8p (Slice 1), Wed at 1a (Slice 2), 6a (3), 12p (4), and 3p (Slice 5). When should I join and which Slice should I join if I want to maximize my odds of hitting a weak bracket and reaching Top 100? I'm not going to be able to do the 6a slice (unless the strategy is to play at 10p-12a the night before and shield up), but which of the others would be weak? The 1am? Or am I way off in my strategy and I should be able to reach 800pts with my roster?

    Any advice is helpful.

It's actually the opposite. 1 and 5 have more high-scorers in them, so join those for Progression; join 2 or 3 for Placement, because they're usually quieter.

If you have a weak roster, generally, you want to play early (at least 11 hours out) and be shielded for at least the last 3 hours - so yes, Slice 2 would be good (playing at 10pm-12 and then being shielded for the last 8.)

You should play in bursts like Vhailorx said - join with about 1 day 12 hours left, play up to 300, wait several hours, then play up to 600 (assuming that is your equilibrium point), wait several hours and from 600ish make a quick run up to as high as you can without getting hit and shield. A team of 94s is very vulnerable after 650.

People trying to maximize their shield usages make the 3 hour, 8 hour, and 11 hour left marks very active in terms of attack frequency -- but 5 hours out and 10 hours out are relatively quiet.

Other people suggest late joins and trying for a small bracket, but I find that weaker rosters get pushed down too hard at the very end.

Appreciate the feedback - especially correcting me on Slice 1 and 5 being the busiest. I've been playing the way you've suggested - up to 300ish, then up to 500ish, then 600-650, but that's where I usually start to feel pressure. I've been able to push into the 790s before, but got attacked while playing and ended up lower than where I started. I've been very hesitant to shield up bcs I'm afraid that when I go attack someone I'll get attacked and end up losing those points anyways. And, since I don't think 650 is going to get me into the t100 (unless it's a weak bracket) and I'm not getting 800, then I don't feel like spending the HP is worth it, but I will for a 3* at this point.

In general, it seems like I'm at the point in the game where I need to get a few 3*s into max-covered territory and then take 6-9 of my 3*s into the 104-120 range before I can consistently get the 800 reward. Is that fair or should I be able to pull off 800 scores in PVP and t100s w/ the 94 roster?

As a point of clarity, if I buy a 3hr shield and then w/ 30m left I go attack someone, am I vulnerable as soon as I start that first match or when I end it? In other words, if I shield, then attack, can I win that 1 match, but lose points while doing it if I'm too slow?

You're vulnerable as soon as you start that match, which is why you will hear people talking about how speed is critical when shield hopping.

It sounds like you're scoring fairly with your roster at the moment. 800 points is optimistic with a max 94 roster, unless you're shield hopping. I wouldn't advise shield hopping with a 94 roster, either, people will pick you out as a soft target, and the relatively low health of your team means that you're likely to lose matches faster than you can win them.
