Types of PVP

Is there any PVP in this game where you play against a live player?

I was really expecting to be able to fight against another player in PVP, and so far I can only fight AI.

  • No. Then there would have to be time limits on turns, you would have to wait to be matched up with someone, etc. on the other hand, they wouldnt get those insane "lucky" cascades the ai gets at the perfect time and the perfect color.
  • They made it sound like I get to play against a player. This is pointless. I can play against AI all day in any of the other Puzzle Quest games, and it gets boring fast.

At first I was willing to get into this game because it has PVP. Now I find out it's only versus AI.
  • About the Game
Assemble a team of Marvel’s biggest super heroes and villains and battle with Puzzle Quest’s trademark match-3 and story-telling gameplay in a game that combines favorite Marvel characters with a deep RPG leveling, player vs. player, character upgrades, and more.
Are there any plans to introduce the ability to fight against other players?

I mean players, not AI controlled teams which happen to have the levels and comps of those used by other players. (A punishment for your AI losing is not the same as playing the match. You didn't lose, the AI lost with your comp.)

I think I might need to stick with Might and Magic Duel of Champions or King's Bounty Legions. I'm all about the interactive competition. There's no satisfaction winning against a computer, you just find the formula for success and you win every time. And no matter how many times I win, I will never have out-played an opponent. Isn't that the whole point?

Yeah I'm the same way, that's why I mainly stick to Pve here.

If that us your primary focus then this game is a lost cause for you. I don't see any sign of actual pvp anytime in the near future, though it would be way way cooler if they did add it.
  • They have way too many problems to even consider adding this at this point. Between nerfing, cheaters, balancing, buffing, cost complaints, new characters, messed up events, messed up rewards, facebook linking, messed up tournaments, people wanting their money back, rating dropping on itunes and play store, its almost impossible.
  • PvP against live opponents would be pointless because the attacker has an insurmountable advantage for simply going first.

Player position could be decided by a coin toss, and if the board sucks for the first player, that's an issue as well.

Yeah there's absolutely no way to solve this. I heard they cancelled the super bowl because they couldn't decide how to figure out who got the ball first

The biggest roadblocks to live PvP is having really reliable servers to handle the load of constant communication.

And for the 12,435th time, the AI doesn't get better cascades than players. I had a Thor tournament game yesterday where my very first match, a simple match-3, triggered an unforeseen cascade that did over 700 damage and fueled one use of Mjolnir's Might and SIX shots of All Tied Up. The AI never even had a chance. You only think the AI gets more and better cascades because it's human nature to notice the ones that harm us more than the ones that help us.
  • Live pvp sure isn't impossible. Other games do it, sure not in the same sense as we want it but I'll even take turn based like words with friends, scrabble, hangman with friends, etc. These games basically have pvp. Add a time limit between turns and this solves the issue and makes it as close to live as you can. Even with time limits with 15 seconds to 10min. It would work. You wouldn't need ridiculous servers.

The reason this game won't have it anytime soon is because the developers have no idea what the term of balance means. It also seems like they don't play test nearly enough to see the bugs and iron out the kinks of each update. Add the real live pvp and the game blows up. These guys really suck, I use to enjoy this until it became apparent they handed the marvel license to a bunch of great artist with mediocre critical gaming experience.
  • I considered quitting because there's no competitive element, but the game's too fun.

They shouldn't say it has player vs. player unless it's an actual player.

But, it is what it is. I don't like the soft paywall that is the roster, but that's not a big deal because it can be solved for $10, which is reasonable.
