Need Roster Help

I'm new to the game, and I'm not sure what to do. My current roster can hold 6 characters, and I have the following:

3 star: Black Widow (Grey Suit) purpleflag.png, Captain Marvel blackflag.png, Gamora redflag.png, Psylocke blueflag.png, and Scarlet Witch purpleflag.png.

2 star: Human Torch (Johnny Storm) blackflag.pnggreenflag.png.

I recently drew a 3 star Doctor Doom (Classic) blackflag.png, and I'm not sure what to do with it. I don't really want to sell it, and I want to add it to my roster. However, I am missing 25 Hero Coins/Points for another spot in the roster.

I considered selling Human Torch, but he is one of my favorite characters in MARVEL, along with Scarlet Witch. The only one left that I think can be replaced is Psylocke, as the others help me do more damage.

What do you think? Is Doctor Doom any good? Should I sell him? Or should I sell someone else in my roster?

You have two weeks to decide, see if you can get the 25 HP to get the slot. I tossed some 3*s when I was starting due to lack of space, and it can take a while to get them back. One of the most common places you see people drop money (aside from whales) is to get those first roster slots, and rarely are there regrets so that could be an option if you want to support the devs financially.

yep. decide now if you're going to be strictly f2p or if you would consider purchasing hp. if you have 2 weeks to decide on the doom cover, you might get your hp in that time, but another decision is right around the corner when the next one comes in. do not sell a serviceable ** at this point (i.e. torch). your ***s will sit at 1-2 covers for a while and be somewhat useless once you develop some **s, which will happen somewhat quickly. you will need your **s for competing, but not necessarily all of them and not necessarily maxed out right away (especially torch - hes usable, but not top tier). you don't have any 1*?

early on, you should have a couple of serviceable * with some covers on him for use in prologue and low level events (seed teams/pve). I got through with im35/mbw, but have since come to appreciate juggs.

to answer your question, yes, doom is good. and psylocke is one of the lower rated characters. you really need a serviceable * or ** to function though.

Wow, that's a wacky roster for a new player. You kind of skipped the 2* stage, which will not work out for you very well. You have probably one cover for each of those 3* characters, and may be still sitting on one cover for each 3 months from now. In the meantime, you'll be throwing away useful 2* characters by the handful. One of the first tokens I opened was a 3* Daken. I thought getting 3* covers was going to be really easy since I got one on the first day icon_lol.gif That Daken still had one cover 6 months later when many of my other 3* characters had several more.

Best thing you could do for yourself would be to get 2* Thor and 2* Black widow on your roster. You'll get a lot more use from those 2 over the next few months than anyone else. Sell Psylocke and Torch if you're stuck at 6 spots.

If you absolutely can't get any more hp either by earning or buying my advice would be to dump Psylocke and Gamora and build yourself a Ares and a fishnets Black Widow. The two best two stars to build on by far. Get a grey suit Storm too if you can. With those three you will be able to well enough in events to earn a lot of HP and open roster slots. I didn't spend any money on the game until I had over 20 slots.

Ares is good too, the reason I recommended Thor over Ares is that if you're playing pve at all, Ares will be frequently locked out as you'll be playing against him.

You can ride Ares, 2* Thor, 2* Daken, and 2* Black Widow a LONG time. So I encourage u to save those when u come across them. I still use that group for DDQ. I'd hang on to Doom he's great when he's covered. You'll pick up a decent amount of HP in the prologue for roster slots. Don't waste them on cover packs. I made that mistake. If you absolutely must get rid of someone and u don't want to lose Torch I'd say Psylocke. But only because Gamora can be somewhat serviceable under covered while your transitioning. But honestly that's a tough call mostly based on my preference of play. You're going to have a tough time with prologue if you don't have some good 2 stars. Find you a good new player friendly Alliance and they'll help steer you in the right direction until you get the hang of things. Good luck!
  • Thx for the advice everyone, I'll try to build a 2 star Ares, Thor, Daken, and Widow if I come across them.

In the meanwhile, I have gotten rid of Psylocke. Using ISO-8, I tried a couple standard packs, and got a 2 star Captain America, who I plan on keeping. I also got a 2 star Wolverine, and I just got a 2 star Bullseye from the event. I have also sold Gamora, mainly because I believe that 3 star Captain Marvel is more useful.

The previous event got me an ISO-8 Brotherhood pack and 25 more HP. I opened up another roster spot, and drew a 3 star Rocket and Groot (Most Wanted) yellowflag.png .

At this point, I'm really not sure what to do, because the characters I have now are pretty useful to me. Is Rocket and Groot (Most Wanted) a character I should use and replace another with, or is it a character I should drop? I will not be getting the 100 HP for another slot anytime soon, as my placement in the other events aren't that high, and the S.H.I.E.L.D Resupply will only land me 50 HP.

Wow, you are quite lucky with 3* covers. Remember that they will expire after 2 weeks, so you have a lot of time to decide. Do not sell them now because it may happen that in those two weeks your situation will change a lot. For example you will soon pull another cover for the character you have just sold.
Make a decision when the expiration time is near.

Rocket and Groot are amazing at 5/3/5. Nothing like being almost dead and matching yellow to rise from the ashes. Captain Marvel is one of the most unsung and misunderstood characters in the game. You take her to 5/5/3 and she can destroy every protect tile on the board (great against Bullseye, Magneto, Falcon and Luke Cage) plus at 5 black she stuns for two turns. I use her to defuse the Hulk Bomb. Stun him, blast him, repeat as needed. She is super tanky and if she gets hit hard enough she will generate a few red for you. Get yourself a 1* Juggernaught. You will need him for Combined Arms, Balance of Power and Deadpool's Daily Quest. If you have a Juggernaught you are at least guaranteed 500 iso a day from DDQ.
  • Alright, thanks guys, I'm back on track.

I'll keep Doom and Rocket & Groot for a while, until I have a chance to get more HP, or until it is close to the expiration date.

As for a 1 star Jug, I believe I can get him from some events and the story. That might actually be easy to get.

I'll try to get other 2 stars as well. Thor is available in some story missions as well as events, so I'll probably aim for him and then try to get a 2 star Widow, Daken, and Ares.

Thx for all the advice guys! icon_e_biggrin.gif

It's tough for a new player when gaining new characters, probably more so now than when I started nearly 300 days ago. Above players are right, you are kind of skipping the 1 and 2* transition. I would keep Doom, only because you get a free one from daily rewards early on so you would have 2 covers. None of your other 3* characters are going to help you now. Keeping which one you want is simply your choice if you want to spend real money on roster slots. Eventually you'll start winning HP often enough that you likely won't have to spend real money.

2* to consider and team combos:

2* Cap America and 2* Black Widow: These two a perfect against goons. Once you have 5 covers on Red and Blue for Cap America, he can throw his shield at countdown tiles (CD). Black Widow (OBW) blue ability will also help you extend CD timers. Juggs is also great against goons, sometimes Moonstone.

2* Wolv & 2* Daken with OBW: Wolv and Daken will be your fastest team (my opinion). Match Green with Wolv, Daken creates a strike tile, then Daken can remove the strike with his blue. I destroyed teams at the 2* level with them and I still use them for quick matches. OBW's espionage may not seem like a cool ability at first but once you have 5 covers, she does additional damage that hit twice with the strike tiles. She will hit harder than most characters at that stage.

2* Thor, Ares are a must. High health and damage dealing skills.

2* Torch and Daken. If you want to keep Torch cause he's your fav, then pair him with Daken. His green will utilize all the strike tiles you created with Daken.

Choice is yours, everyone plays differently. Enjoy!
  • Oh, with is the perfect example how this game is NOT noob-friendly.
The game fails to educate new player. So many noobs I'm sure make common mistakes if they don't use info from outside sources such as this forum:
    1. Rosters spots - the biggest handicap in this game. If a player spends his first free 150 hp on something else he's stuck with 1 roster slot for first several days. That's an immediate turn off.
    2. Baby brackets in events allow to easily pick up some 3* in first several events - the game practically throws them to you. So noobs tend to think that 3* are better than 1-2* (as it usually is in other games) and roster them forgoing 1-2*. That also throttles their progress because you can easier build a good 1-2* team while 3* with 1-2 covers will be deadweight wasting a precious roster spot. And when the game decides to transfer them to normal brackets they start doing a lot worse in events. This also hardly encourages further playing.

I think this game would be much noob-friendlier if:
    1. Start game with 10 roster spots. You should give player some sense of a game letting him build some useful chars before pressing him hard to spend on roster slots.
    2. Don't segregate noobs into baby brackets. That easy ride to 3* in first events doing more harm than good. People clog their rosters with useless for them high level characters instead of building robust low level team. And instead of feeling the progress they have a sense of regress when the game decides they are 'vet' enough and throws them with the sharks when they suddenly start doing much much worse than before.

Disclaimer: I play MPQ as a F2P player, and I'm somewhere in the day 200-300 range.

As painful as it is to contemplate, I wouldn't try to start accumulating 3-star characters until you have at least one set of maxed (level 90-ish) 2-stars (unless you've splurged buying hero points and can buy a bunch of roster slots that you can essentially let sit idle). Characters become most effective by virtue of their powers, which requires multiple covers. You're unnecessarily slowing the overall effectiveness of your team by discarding 2-star covers waiting for the rarer ones.

Being able to clear DDQ every day (or even just the unlocked parts if you're missing the essential character) will do more to net you eventual 3-star characters than anything short of spending money, and it will probably take a maxed group of 3 2-star characters to be able to achieve that.

If it makes you feel any better, I've had to get rid of a ton of 3-star covers and a smattering of 4-stars (Star Lord and Invisible Woman, pre-buff) in my time playing (especially when the expiration period was closer to half a week). I'm close to 40 roster slots and I'm probably still going to wind up dumping a Sentry (and something else -- maybe Iron Man Mark 40?) later this week.
  • Hello, i need roster help

    Hulk *** (2G)
    Daken *** (1P1B1B)
    Storm *** (1G1Y)
    Wolve *** (1G1R)
    Black Window *** (1G)
    Cap. America *** (1B)
    Dr. Doom ***(1B)
    Iron Man *** (1Y)
    The Hood *** (1B)
    Colossus *** (2R1B)
    Thor ** (5R4Y3G)
    Wolve ** (4G3G2Y)
    Cap. Marvel ** (4R4B2Y)
    Hawkeye ** (2R2P)
    Storm ** (4G1B3Y)
    Magneto ** (3B1P3R)
    Human Torch ** (4R3B)
    Black Window Original ** (1B1P1B)
    Ares **(3R1Y)
    Storm *(5G5Y3B)
    Iron Man *(5R5Y3B)

    My Stack is:

    She Hulk 1G
    Cap. Marvel *** 1R
    Moonstone ** 1P1B1R
    Cap. America ** 3R1Y
    Sentry 1R
    Spider Man 1Y
    Scarlet 1B

What should I dispose of my team and what I put into my team?

Since already thank you for help!
  • You'd get better responses if you started a new thread.
A lot of this depends on your characters' levels and how much iso-8 you've invested in each of them.

From what I see, your best team pairings at this point are:
    Storm/Magneto
    Wolverine/Cap Marvel
    Thor/Black Widow Original

If you're stuck on roster slots, dump:
    Hawkeye** not powerful enough.
Torch** ok, but easy to gain covers for later.

    Black Widow *** is debatable.
Iron Man*** is a decent AP generator at 1 yellow, so you could use him just for that, eg with Wolverine.

    Pending:
    Moonstone - sell
Sentry - sell. Too weak. Your Thor ** will be better than him for a long time, and then 3* Thor will be better afterwards.
Spiderman - sell if you need room because it's yellow, and you'll probably want to go 3/5/5 if you end up playing the game this long.
Cap Marvel - Same as above. Keep if you have room, otherwise sell.
Cap America 2* is great for PVE against goons or 1 enemy + 2 goons, but weak in PVP.
    She-Hulk -
Scarlet 1B -keep. This is her best ability. You can use her with Black Widow Original to create an AP stealing machine.

    Other notes:
You may want to eventually dump IM35 and Storm* if you find them less useful. They can be replaced in DDQ with a level 40 juggernaut.
Admittedly, I keep Storm* myself for the 1-2* node + OBW and Cap for great board control, but she's not really necessary, just a luxury.
  • Daibar, thanks for the help, i will open a new topic. I opened some tokens, I will post the new topic, I hope to help me again.
