Prof X triggers his own abilities?

I fought a team which had Professor X. One enemy used an ability, and Prof X's Psychic Convergence triggered. Then it triggered once again, apparently because he used his own ability. Is it really supposed to do that? No wonder all fights with him spiral out of control so quickly.
