Moving up to three stars

edited February 2014 in MPQ General Discussion
I have built up some options to form a three star team and was wondering if anyone would like to help me on the direction. I'm thinking that Punisher and Spiderman are a good choice for two of the members (regardless of the upcoming balancing) seeing as how they will cover all the colors. Any thoughts on that???

I currently have:

3*s
Punisher 3/5/5 [100]
Wolverine (3*) 3/4/3 [100]
Spiderman 2/4/4 [65]
Hulk 4/3/3 [75]
Ragnarok 3/5 [30]
The Hood 1/3/1 [30]
Doom 2/0 [25]
Iron Man Model 40 2/2/0 [20]
Magneto Classic 1/1/1 [20]
Loki 2/3 [15]
Black Widow Grey Suit 1/1/0 [15]

4*s
Wolverine X-Force 1/3/0 [35]
Invisible Woman 0/1/1 [24]

I would appreciate any help on this transition. Thanks for lending me your time.

  • Patch is really good, and you have enough covers to make him pretty threatening. I still believe 5/5/3 is the best build. You probably only want one of him or Punisher on a team, although Punisher's black is very very good with Patch's strike tiles.

I would consider leveling up one villain so you can compete in LRs. Ragnarok is a good option for that, or maybe you could level up Patch and Loki together for their synergy. Loki LRs also tend to be the least competitive.

    Thanks,
Patch and loki would be a good move and in time I think I will do that. For now I'm kind of committed to Punisher and leaning towards a Punisher/Spiderman/XXXX. Maybe Punisher/Spiderman/Patch, but Patch without Loki (and even with) seems risky.
  • Sadly i still require 1 more green cover!!! some1 manage overtake me at the last event by 10 pts T_T
oh well hope coming event feature green cover of patch as reward... gonna go all out to get it icon_mrgreen.gif
  • What is the best way to level up the three stars? Move one of them up to 141 at a time or in chunks?

That really depends on how you play. Do you have an A team of three characters that you always prefer? If so get them up to whatever high level you want.

If you like a more balanced roster spread out the iso (it goes further at lower levels anyway).

I personally worked on my A team first. Ragnarok used to be on it and was my first max character. Magneto became my second. Then after Rags became more fun I leveled both Spidey and Punisher to 128 and have left them there to team with Magneto.

Since then I've been spreading iso around. I'm happy with Loki at 80 so the only 3 stars I don't have at 100 now are Widow and Doom at 68 and Daredevil at 41. Most of my 2 stars are around at least 50 so it's nice because I have a decent shot in tourneys/events regardless of who if anyone is buffed.

Thus far I have been running Punisher and wolvie both at level 100 and an 85 OBW. I like the idea of moving my spiderman up to 100 as wel... but hesitate because he will become fun soon. With my current line up I'm thinking I should just move punisher and wolvie up to at least 120. OBW is a strong 2* and waiting untill the fun time spiderman hits is the smart move.

Whatever you do, be sure to always have Patch as your most leveled character in order to maintain best there is. I think the Patch boat has sailed for me since I have a 141 Punisher (meaning it would take wayyyy too long to level Patch), but your best bet is to level Patch/Punisher at the same time I think. You can consider leveling Hulk as well since he is an amazing defensive deterrent later on. I think Spidey would go best with Patch at this point in time, but you should wait until the nerf as he might get completely revamped.
  • I'm currently using Punisher/Spidey/Patch as my A Team. Since Patch and Punsher at equal levels means Patch tanks for Punisher's red and green, it works quite well. I don't use Patches abilities until I'm sure I can end the match quickly (or stunlock w/Spidey). Instead I rely on Patch's yellow to heal himself after taking damage and rely solely on Punisher for offense. 3/5/5 Punisher, 3/4/3 Patch (going for 3/5/5 since he's my "tank"), 3/5/2 Spidey. Sadly Spidey does take Patch's yellow, but /shrug cest la vie.

On a side note, I do have a lvl 55 5/3 Loki that is hella fun to team w/Patch if you can grab the black (and green/red).
  • I'm tempted to say hold back until the Spiderman nerf hits. That's going to have a HUGE impact on the game and it's impossible to say exactly how until we see how drastic the changes are. I think I heard somewhere it will happen a bit after R48 comes out, but I'm not sure.

Like with the Rags nerf, it affects how you build other characters and which combinations you used. For example, I rarely cared much about the red abilities of other characters, b/c they couldn't compare to Rags' red attack. If Spidey becomes useless, characters with decent blue or yellow moves will become a lot more valuable (e.g. IM40). Or maybe Spidey will still be very useful, in which case not so much.

However, I know I'd be impatient, so I guess you could level Patch/Punisher. They should be very useful regardless. A harsh Spidey nerf could really hurt Patch (no waiting for stun lock before putting out all those strike tiles). But, Loki's Trickery will be great with Patch if Spidey becomes useless. Personally, I wouldn't take each of Pun/Patch beyond L115 or so for now. I feel it's diminishing returns on the ISO investment at that point. You'd need something like 60K ISO each to go from there to L141, and think about how much 60K would help some other character. Plus, I don't think there's much of a difference in intimidation factor btwn L115 and L141. My approach has been to have a wide, well-rounded cast so I can compete in any event with different buffed characters.

    HTH.

I think that the difference between 115 and 141 is actually somewhat significant for PvP. I think my level 110 Punisher/Hulk was getting attacked a ton, but once I went up to level 141 punisher / 125 hulk, I've been attacked significantly less. While I do agree that having a well rounded roster is very good to have, I think that having 2 versatile characters maxed at 141 should be a pretty high priority for most people. The one thing I realized was that despite these tournaments having all of these random buffs for different characters, you still need 2 other characters to make up a tournament team, and I found that I was using Punisher as one of these characters for every single tournament that I've played in. Characters that fit in any team such as Punisher or Hulk (who is the best scarecrow on defense in the game righ tnow) should be taken up to 141 since you'll be relying on them for every single tournament to come, but once you have that core roster, splitting your iso across many characters as you said is a good way to go.
  • My A-Team is Hulk130/Punisher104/Spidey100 B-Team: Punsiher/Spidey/Hood100 (nice def Team icon_e_biggrin.gif and a quick offence team). Its a really nice combo. I love the hood, you can use him in many teams.
  • Best way to move to 3* at the moment is to keep a low level team, but put lots of covers into them. Leader (by a long way) of my villain tournament has this roster:

    One star
    Venom - level 40 - 5/5
    Juggernaut - level 1 - 1/1

    Two star
    Moonstone - level 69 - 2/5/5
    Daken - level 61 - 5/5
    Ares - level 44 - 4/3/0

    Three star
    Doctor Doom - level 65 - 5/5
    C.Magneto - level 44 - 0/3/2
    Ragnarok - level 25 - 2/2
    Hood - level 28 - 0/2/1
    Loki - level 17 - 1/1

You don't need to bother with getting through the prologue it seems, just make sure you don't level your characters too much + you'll pick up all the 3* prizes from PvP.

I wonder if this is someones villain-only alt account?
