What's a season worth to you?

With the new influx of 4* characters (and I use that label VERY liberally (I'm looking at you )) a single cover, regardless who, is just not worth 20+ days of playing this game.
The devs need to take a hard long look and think deeply about what a suitable reward is for ending season t100.
The only time 1 4* cover is worth anything is when it brings you, not only 4 > 5 but from your 12th > 13th cover, completing them to proper spec.
This last season was my first cover and boy am I more underwhelmed than ever. More so than my 10-silver 10pk, more so than even if it were my last cover for him, completing him (because he sucks).
At this point 3 4* covers would seem more suited for a season reward if they are going to not only keep up this release pace, but expect anybody who has joined in the last 60 days to have any kind of hope and progress.

I think PvP tournament rewards should be self sustaining and should not need season rewards to be attractive (in comparison to PvE they are, but improvements can always be made). Season rewards should be a bonus or special attraction to play 10 tournaments in a row (if you don't, you pretty much won't get a top 100 alliance spot anyway).
On the other hand, in season 1 they began introducing a new 4* character as reward which was very appealing. Now they release more 4* in different ways (that I like, especially Ultron). So I think, you are right. They should look at season rewards with little hope they actually will.
1k progression and rank 1 placements plus one cover per season as the only sources of 4* covers probably needs a little tweak.
Weekly DDQ for 4* or something... Just another source to consider the increasing amount of them.0 -
What's a season worth to me? Zip.
I'm going to play the PVPs that offer covers I want and if there are enough of them in the season to accumulate 4K points I'll take the free 10-pack, but I'm not going to do anything extra to get one.0 -
Regardless of the specific arguments for or against the OP's position on seasons, it seems pretty clear that the old 4* cover reward structure is completely messed up.
There are now 10 4*s. And they are coming out so fast that only on cover for each 4* will be awarded as season rewards. They are also harder to get in the pve release events. Demiruge seems intent on releasing more and more 4*s, but that just means it will take longer and longer to cover any one without spending money.
the Daily Quest went a long way towards solving the 2*-->3* transition problem that existed at the end of 2014. But the 4* release rate is just creating the same problem all over again for the 3*-->4* transition (except worse because 4* covers are harder to get).
And this is all happening after demiurge expressly stated that they wanted to make the 4* transition easier in a q&a session late last year.0 -
Well, we are going into a new season, and from what I have seen they like to tinker with the game a little bit between seasons.
I'm optimistic that we will see some changes that will (at least temporarily) placate some of the more vitriolic feedback that D3 is seeing.0 -
I am at the point of the 10 pack reward being my stopping point. 4*'s come very slowly, and only on very lucky token draws as a transitioner.
I wish there was a more reliable way to get covers, maybe after the Q&A we will find out what their plans are.0 -
Short answer to the OP? Not much. Close to zero. Seeing what came out of my Ultron 10-pack was all I needed to see. If I accidentally stumbled across one? I'd open it. But actually trying to win one? Yeah, about zero.
DBC0 -
this season was a net loss of 5000 hp between roster slots for new characters and one for a ** I might not have plus a handful of shields - that is not sustainable and once my roster hits 60 (at 58 now), I'm done adding. doc ock, psylocke, vision - you've been warned. hate to sell vision since he's considered an avenger - might be required for an ultron or something. this season was very expensive for me - and what did I get for it....beast, doc ock, vision, psylocke....blegh. got a blade and a couple deadpools and a loki I needed, but still....0

I agree that the current season reward structure is outdated. Here's my suggestion to change it. Instead of rewarding just ONE cover for top 100 alliance, how about two or three of the 4* character? Using Kingpin as example, let's say, give yellow for top 100, add purple cover for top 25, and add his black cover for top 10? D3 is already using a similar format for pve placement, so it's not a revolutionary idea. I think this sort of tier structure would give more incentive for players to push higher in alliance rankings.
As for individual rewards, I think the iso and hp rewards should be increased by a lot. I understand D3 might not wanting to give out more 10 packs. But they could certainly give more rewards via iso and hp.0 -
a vacation . took the latest season off0

Last 3 10 packs opened
Pro x pink
Iron man red
she hulk green
capt red
lock red
Elt red
6 out of 30 that is why its not really worth it anymore. ALSO once you get alot of the 3 stars close to max it not worth it. got like 6 that is missing like 1 or 2 covers and always get repeats0 -

This is where I am. I've got fully covered characters at levels 160, 160, 155, 140, 125, 120, 95, 78, 58, 40, 40, 40, 40. I don't need covers, I need ISO. Lots and lots of ISO.
A single 4* cover for 20 days of work wouldn't be worth it.......but that isn't the only reward. Every couple days you are likely finishing T100 individual, and T100 alliance earning you at least two 3* covers, then if you can get T50 for the season you get a 10-pack, plus a 10-pack progression. This season I finished top 25 (with only 7k points) and managed two 10-packs. I think there could be some tweaks in this area. I think brackets for season are a dumb. I had no business earning top 25 when others with similar scores barely cracked top 100. Just lump everyone together and give 10-packs to the top 10% or something.0 -
A while back I joined the Wrecking Crew as a Merc for PvE, it was the end of the season that night and some Commander had stopped playing , could not be booted and it was a huge deal that we missed the X-force
Now that was a reward, everybody was going to have to buy that cover to stay competitive so earning it instead would have saved a bunch of HP for the whole alliance. People were pissed
With the depreciation of 4* would we even care if we finished 101 now? I don't this so. Maybe a bit more now that 4* are required for PvE but as long as you have one cover you are fine0 -
As of last season, PVP importance has definitely tanked as a priority. In Season 12, I grinded for the 10-pack and got a GREAT return, landing XF , LT and a few other I can't remember right now. Then Season 13, where my 10-pack was horrible, netting a Loki and some other useless pull. I just competed for wanted covers this season, as I know my roster can now get me in the top 25 or better if I push. I tried out going for 1k in one event and fell short (715 was my max, then I was attacked like crazy). I pushed to 3k for the Quicksilver cover, then just plain quit. I will say though, that with the improved drop ratios, I MAY be tempted to go for 4k next season, this coupled with an improving roster that can get me to 4k while avoiding the dreaded Simulator event. I HATE that thing!0

I would like to see a 4 star of your choice for alliance reward. It doesn't seem like a lot to ask for 20 days commitment.0
-
I would like to see a 4* progression reward at 10k points. A different colour of the same character as the Alliance reward would be ideal.0

More Bagman covers as rewards.. i want to build one.0

So, I know I'm in the minority on this one, but...
Shouldn't 4*'s be REALLY hard to get? I mean, if I had all the 4*'s in the game, I would have nothing left to get, and then this game would kinda be boring.
The chase in this game is the 4*'s. They are the brass ring. I don't think that they should be easily attainable. Yes, the frosted side of me would like a fully covered Kingpin and Prof X, but the whole wheat side realizes that's the goal not the journey.
So, I'm the only person that's saying don't increase 4* acquisitions. We got more points in PVP, that should be enough to get us to the 1k.

I'm always wondering about the vision for how a player should interact with the game. 4* characters should be 'rare', certainly. But rarity is a somewhat relative phrase. For a game where you don't expect to retain players for much beyond 60-90 days; is there an expectation that a player would be able to sport a rare character before they put the game down? Or are you expecting to retain a player for 365+ days and maybe they will have a rare character before the year is up if they work hard? That vision determines how hard it should be to get a rare character. They seem to have very mixed feelings on the issue... which makes it difficult to know how to answer. Balancing the experience for new players against that of players who have been around for more than a year is also a difficult proposition. That said though; I don't believe that the rewards desired by new versus veteran players differ that substantially.
The 'season' in aggregate should be worth more than 1 4* character yes. The problem is that the rewards for the 10 PVP events that make up the season are supposed to fill in in that circumstance. If the prizes you get from the 10 events don't make up for the season then the structure isn't working. I know my team is trying to be competitive in each event, so the season prize is more a cherry on top rather than the "goal" we have worked toward all season.
Here are the things that leave a bad taste in my mouth at the end of season:
1 - individual bracket placement is a farce. When I outscore members of my alliance for season and barely make top-100 for season; and the lower scoring alliance mate lands top-5? Something doesn't compute there.
2 - Scoring 10k in a season and having it not register. I have scored over 10k 3 different seasons and had that not qualify for a 10-pack in bracket placement. When progression prizes top out at 7,500 something isn't right there either. 5 heroic tokens for a 10k season seems stingy.
3 - 3* Season Simulator covers require a ridiculously high score. 2300, 2400? Come on. I got there once, but it wasn't necessarily an enjoyable process. Where did those numbers come from?
4 - awarding blocks of heroic tokens for season placement. A (virtually guaranteed) small handful of 2* covers for a season of work is rough. How about a smaller number of "better" tokens? The people who are winning these in my bracket certainly aren't hurting for modern hawkeye covers.0 -
As a member of a top 10 season ranking alliance for most of last year, I can tell you this - season alliance rewards are all about sharing in your accomplishment as a TEAM, not as an individual player - total icing. The only times it really mattered to me is when pre-nerf 4hor was on the line, THAT really mattered because I won the 40K HP lottery and planned on buying the rest of her covers flat out (which I did, no regrets).
Fast-forward to a few weeks ago - I was facing burnout pretty bad and my life was out of balance, so last season I took a bit of a break and took 2 PVPs off at the start of the season. When I joined Season XIV, I ended up in a "slacket / slack bracket" and easily took first place by over 2400 points by the end (only 1K in SIM, just to generate ISO and HP, SIM top rewards are very, very hard to reach now, totally agreed with above) just shy of 7000 for the season. This was at the sacrifice of having a 11K+ season like I normally do, so I wasn't able to compete at the top 10-tier, but I was ranked 15th in 5DeadlyCurses.
<shameless plug> NOW RECRUITING for 5DeadlyCurses - join us in this fantastic Top 75 alliance - PM me!!! </shameless plug>.
So, the end result - my first 40-pack ever - all without having to break my HP bank for the season, and I ended up in an Alliance that placed 64th for the season to get my Kingpin cover. That 40-pack yielded 13 golds, including 3x 4* and 2x 3* that I really needed - sold the rest - one hell of a return for this Goon. HOWEVER, I gave up my spot in Venoms to make that happen in an effort to balance real-life and MPQ. All it took was skipping the first couple of PVPs - I'm likely doing the same thing for Season XV.0 -
bumping this up because it's ridiculous now. 26 days for 1 cover is absurd.
A season WAS worth a 4* cover back when there were only three 4*s and 2 of them sucked. Now there are about 30 4*s. This needs addressing NEXT season.
The proposal is a full array of covers (1 of each colour) for alliance reward0
