There's a lot of fair points on both sides of the argument here (including BG), but this is just a no;Bowgentle wrote:Case in point:
Start of the game: "4*s are meant to be trophies"
A year later: "4*s are meant to be god-tier, here's the promised Xforce buff and 4Thor!"
Another 6 months later: "4*s are only meant to be 33% better than 3*s! Here's the nerf!"
Please, source this for me. Please.
4*s have never been called trophies. Devil Dinosaur was called a trophy, but that was because he was awful, they gave his covers away by the truckload, and he was a trophy to represent the anniversary (as well as a callback to him having been unplayable prior to that and a relatively decent community outreach to make him playable).
4*s have never been said to need to be "god-tier" or anything even close. They said X-Force was much weaker than they wanted him to b, and we all knew he was ridiculously weak, which is why we chose to use 3*s over him. I don't think they ever made an statements about 'how strong' they were ever supposed to be, until...
4*s official power statement. Cool.0 -

I wasn't referring to statements, but devs' actions, which have spoken louder than words, as always.0 -

This reply pretty much says it all. If you are approaching this game with the intention that you must be highly competitive/win in every event, then you fall outside what can reasonably assumed to be "regular play." Hence, you rack up extravagant roster slot prices. Such is the price you pay for irrationally wishing to be at the top of the totem pole without making any kind of sacrifice to maintain that standard (excepting time, of course).0 -

If you can't hit essentials, even maintaining top 150 can be difficult.0 -
sinnerjfl wrote:daibar wrote:From what perspective are you approaching this? Are you a 3* player who always had the 3* essential so was never locked out of any node? Are you aiming for Top 25 every PVE?
Can you hit 2 out of 3? 1 out of 3? It's hard to tell if you have it tougher because of your position because you haven't stated where you're aiming and with what effort + roster.0 -

I think people over emphasize the need for the essential characters. The impact was actually lessened by the addition of 2* and 4* characters to essentials.
Let's say you cut Squirrel Girl. On the off chance she is the essential, you're down one essential node. For one event. That's it.
Let's say you still can't make top 150 that event. So what? If you already have the character being offered, then you're back on even ground. If you don't have that character, you miss one essential node in the next PVE. It only snowballs until you already have the prize being offered at 150, and if you're actually in the 3* transition, you should be collecting more and more of those.
The fact is, it's still possible to make 150 in PVE without the new character or essential, because others are missing it as well, and when you do miss 150, it's not necessarily that damaging in the next event.0 -

Essentials now, you have to hold on to useless 's because they might be essential sometimes. 's essential nodes are also annoying because most of them are pretty bad and you only want to keep 2 or 3 max. If you don't have the essential one, you have to hope it drops and then you got a useless character with 1 cover, fun times. Say what you want but if you don't have the essential characters, you're gonna have to make it up for by grinding other harder nodes.
It's pretty obvious this is a nice little ploy to sell even more overpriced roster slots. Sure you don't have to but you'll be a disadvantage if you don't.0 -

I'd say the disadvantage is less than 10% for not having an essential character. And as you said, you can make up the difference by grinding a little bit more. You can either spend 500-700 HP for the extra slot or grind a little bit more. It's a strategy game, and this is a completely acceptable strategic decision.0 -
as of yet the 2* essentials have been the 200 points reward for the concurrent PvP, (coincidence?).
I only care of there are new characters involved, so I buy the slot early, put the essential in there and can his **** when I earn the new hero0 -
Bumping bc ppl think it disappeared.0
