Duplicate characters - good idea/bad idea?

I see quite a few rosters with multiple characters - 2 Ares, 2 Thors, etc.

I'm a transitioning 2* to 3* player and it's getting quite difficult to make that jump. Due to the change in the PVP setup, I'm struggling to even make the top 150 - let alone the top 100.

My main source of 3* covers now is DDQ.

So my question is this, I'm getting a lot of 2* covers that I just sell off, BUT would it be worth it, in the long run, to have duplicates of some of the heavy hitters and most used 2* characters. OBW, Ares, Daken, Thor, Storm, Mags for instance.

I figure I can go longer in PVP if I have duplicates to fall back on and that might allow me to much, much better in PVP. However, this would require a lot of ISO to level up those characters all over again.

So what do you guys think? Is it worth it?

    A second OBW would be the most beneficial in my opinion out of all the 2*. I have 2 of her and find it extremely useful. Only do it after you have the right covers for your first one and only if you have the roster spot. 3/5/5 build.

    I kept starting a second then ditching her for a new character... finally had a break and some extra HP so I was finally able to build her.

    With the cost of roster slots as high as they are, duplicate characters are a luxury. There are a few worth keeping, mostly for team ups (eg. OBW purple only) or specific events (eg. lvl 1 Juggs). But stockpiling duplicates as a matter of regular play is typically a bad idea.

    I am late in the 3 star game and I am currently collecting covers for a second Hood and Loki. Outside of those 2 and oBW, I wouldn't consider a second of anyone else.

    I would have said exactly the same thing about Loki and Hood, but with the weekly rotating buffs I'm not using them nearly as much any more. I started building a second LThor, but junked him for basically the same reason. I've been considering a second Luke Cage, so I can have an offensive build and a defensive build, but the next new character will probably take the place of the one cover I have recruited so far.

    I was pretty early into the 2* -> 3* transition when I built a second OBW and found it immensely helpful especially when she was featured/boosted.
    Being able to alternate the two allowed me to delay having to use a health pack or two during an event.
    Not so sure with the new MMR and rotating boosted since I've pretty much backed away from the game after these changes.

    I'm building a second Lazy Cap and considering a couple other characters. From a cost/benefit point of view it depends on whether you'd rather:

    buy health packs x 5 @ 200hp a pop
    stop playing when you run out of health packs
    have some duplicates of your favorites

    Only you can answer that question for you. I'm not buying health packs anymore because I know that's what they want to force me to do and I just plain wont play ball. I've got 57 roster slots and 10 I could free up right now if they release somebody decent. You don't need every three star but extra Patch or Black Panthers or Cage or Iron Fist....Well worth ditching your Bags McCoy or BagSilver or Vision or Iron Man (Canned Beast). icon_e_biggrin.gif

    A 2/5/5 OBW is the best 2nd build of OBW. That extra 1 AP in activation can make a huge difference when stealing, particularly if you don't use Black AP, which you often won't in 2* land. Since she works well with Ares/Thor/Wolverine, she's the one worth having multiples of.

    I'm fairly solid in the 4* transition (I have about 5 non-Vision covers left that I need for 3*), and I still keep 2 OBWs. She's just insanely valuable in PvE when boosted.

    I'm building a second 3* Thor, and also have 2 XForce/Fury right now (duplicates are only a couple covers). Given their rarity, I'll just build another copy whenever the 1st (or 2nd) is already at 5 covers on an ability.

    same here,

    I got 2covered , OBW , Hood and working on my Loki

    I will keep them just a bit lower level , especially hood when I don't want him to tank colors, want the AP steal but don't need huge damage on black -yellow


    I have a second hulk too, fully covered unleveled, I probably will use the slot for a second IF or Cage instead though. For a transitioning player a second OBW is very useful ever since they started true healing and she is constantly boosted in PvE
