What if Ragnarok was removed as a playable character?

I was going to post a discussion about who should be in the next round of character tweaks/fixes/updates/buffs/nerfs/changes/etc. But that's going to be a subject for another time, because the first name that came to mind was Ragnarok.

Poor old Ragnarok. He's been through more changes than just about anyone else and time has not been kind to him. I started to think about how he could be returned to greatness, or at least good-ness; heck, I'd even settle for "decent-as-a-counter-to-specific-teams"-ness. That's when I thought about the new villains on the scene - Gorgon and Ultron. These guys don't have to worry about the same balancing as everyone else, since they're tuned to be boss fights, and I wonder if Ragnarok could just get the same treatment.

So, what if Ragnarok was removed as a playable character? What sort of "compensation" would be appropriate? What sort of powers should he get? How much work would be needed to re-tune all the missions he shows up in?

With the suggestion that more charged tile generators are being designed, I think I'd like to see him interact with that mechanic further. Give him a passive which heals himself whenever he matches a charged tile, an attack which generates them and an attack which consumes them.

  • Interesting thought, but I don't think it will ever happen. With even more villains on the horizon it seems D3Go is all about more characters, more inclusion, more roster slots. Which is fine, as long as they are playable at a normal level (cough Moonstone cough), and have a decent powerset (cough Doc Ock cough). And stop running Heroics where they are locked out.

You may as well just count C.Mags as a hero now, he's been in a Heroic and he's in DPvMPQ Heroes. Just sad really. Topic for a different time.

Do we really need to go back to having him as a HP drain in PVE?

If he is taken away from the players, we all know - given the devs' track record - that he'll be turned into Juggs level of evil again, and I think PVE is bad enough as it is.

So don't give them any ideas *sigh*

    Sorry I can't resist.

They have already removed Ragnarok as a playable character by adding the worst third power in the game.

To be honest, a lot of the characters in this game have had no place in the Marvel Universe in years. Rags, Karla, etc. They only served the purpose here, because of the "storyline"........that has not been touched in years. So odd, that.

When they release a new, better than Vision, character they could remove Rags from our roster and replace all copies of him with a correspondingly leveled/covered copy of the new character.

Once this was done; they could return rags to his pre-nerf (Rags 2.0 might be better than Rags 1.0) specification and have him as an NPC opponent only.
  • What if they replaced all our characters with 5 star Galactus and other cosmic god types?

What if Bagman was suddenly the most powerful character in the game?

What if every character could be sold for 2000hp?

What if actual gold coins shot out of the screen when you won?

What if? What if? What if?

IF they ever removed a character from the playable pool (I do not believe they would ever do that), the least compensation I would expect would be that I'd be given the same number of covers that I had in the removed character. I don't care if they're random, I would want to have (roughly) the same number of cover in my roster before or after. No tokens, no ISO, no HP except if those HP are sufficient to buy the same number of covers for same star.png characters, but this will never happen.

Well then she'd be your uncle.

Ragnarok's last appearance in Marvel Comics was at the end of Young Avengers when he wielded an alternate timeline Mjolnir. Since they converged stuff in the Secret Wars plotline, he may have been "deus ex" ' d out of continuity.

Karla's last appearance that I can remember was in The List (after Secret Invasion, so it's a while)

    Seriously, I wouldn't miss either.
  • Just like there are two versions of Devil Dinosaur there's nothing stopping the game from having two versions of Ragnarok.

I'm not sure it's a good idea to have a Gorgon like version of Ragnarok given he's used as if he's just a random guy on the DA in terms of frequency. If you throw out all the freebie appearances on the trivial tracks, Gorgon doesn't appear very often at all even though there are only two guys that can move the board in the entire EotS event and that's about right for a guy who is intended to be overpowered by design. It'd be stupid if he's in every node in the EotS event.
