Buying 10 Token Packs Acceptable Now?
Since the recent changes in the token pack odds, I've obtained 3 heroic 10 packs, 2 purchased and 1 won in PVP.
I know everyone swears against spending any money on the game with the exception of roster spots. However everyone has their own values on money and for me $20 here and there for a metaphorical pull on the Moonstone slot machine is entertaining enough that I don't mind. Plus for the hours of entertainment value I've gotten out of the game I don't mind supporting the developers.
Anyway, here's the results from the last three 10 packs I've opened since the increase in odds and I must say, unless its just great luck...maybe investing in a 10 pack here and there isn't so bad anymore? Are others having similar results? Feedback appreciated!
As I'm a relatively new player, I have only earned one 10 pack prior to the odds change and only received a .
(Keep in mind I'm in the 3 * transition phase and needed every cover I got excluding )

Tokens are what they are, and they're a lottery. From what I see there, you pretty much won the lottery. I've had good pulls and awful pulls from my season reward 10-packs, this season's was really bad - 5 2* Hawkeyes, 2 2* Cap Marvels, 1 2* Thor and 2* Daken, and 1 3* Hulk. For someone who needs any character they could pull out from them, they're not the worst deal in the world, but for vets the token packs are still a huge waste of money/resources.0

I think they can make sense if you're relatively early in the transition and still need some 2*s and most or all 3*s. I think that once you've started getting any max-covered 3*s or stop needing 2* covers, though, they make increasingly less sense. Keep in mind, you can buy 3 3* covers for the cost of one of these packs, which is more than you're likely to get from the packs, and you choose the three covers when you buy them.0

Hmm yeah I guess you're right. I got the vibe from the forum that pre patch they were a complete waste but now it doesn't seem like they are quite as bad; at least in my experiences but I guess at the end of the day it is probably more lottery luck more so than increased odds.
Sorry to hear about that 10 pack for you0 -
I'm glad it worked out for you in these cases. But i'm still a proponent that if you are willing to drop HP to expand your roster, the best way to do it is to purchase the covers that you desire straight up. I understand that you may not have access to those covers yet as a newer player...my advice there would be to ride it out, improve, and eventually you will win those covers through PVE and PVP. I still feel that buying cover packs is a terrible risk.

I bought a 10 pack yesterday, plain ol heroic
(just in time for PVE, Hooray!)
(finally have him on my roster, Yay!)
(put her at 4/4/5)
(both sold, no need for him on my roster)
(he is now at 2/4/1)
Judging by the other threads i have seen, i am going to say, YES.
It looks like with the changes they made, heroic 10 packs are back on the list. That is the single largest number of gold's i have ever gotten from a 10 pack, including the Ultron ones.
edit: Also got a from a standard token.. so with the great pulls... i had to pony up for 3 roster slots for Falcon, IW, and Kingpin.
So yes, the packs are very worth it, but with my roster closing in on 60.. not sure if i can keep up..loads of 1-2 cover 3*s that may get canned with 2* essentials in PVE now.0 -
If I have added properly the numbers from the purchasing page info, in a Heroic 10-pack you have a 70,9% chance on each sepparate cover to draw a 2*. Please note that you can also get a Beast... A different issue is an event pack, in case you badly want a new char cover.
I would strongly recommend purchasing 3* (or higher) covers directly, to max chars or respec outstanding powers.
One pack= 2800 HP, lots of randomness
2 covers = 2500 HP, put straight where you want 'em!0 -

I understand your reasoning, but i for one love the randomness.. like buying a scratch off to see what you have won! If i had a solid 3* roster, yah, 1 cover at a time.. but since i am transitioning, it sorta helps.
Also, if not for the randomness, i would not have gotten IW , an essential for the PVE..0 -

Agreed. The cost of covers vs cost of pack was something I never looked at before so thanks for that insight. I don't have any particular covers I MUST have right now so I enjoy the randomness of getting any 3/4 * character. (I say that now and then when I get I will throw my phone )0 -

So , it looks like the answer comes down to this...
Yes, with higher draw rates, the packs are much better than before.
Should you buy them?
Depends on your goal.
For transitioning, yes.. you will need covers for many different characters, or to start characters to build (to buy covers, you need at least 1 of that color to begin with)
If you have a solid 3* Roster.. probably not, as shown above, buy the covers you need directly (providing you have 1 of that cover to begin with).
DPD takes care of the rest.
4*'s... good luck, or wait for their rare PVP's or a PVE with them as an essential, and maybe buy a 10 pack for that? not sure how to get 4*s outside of pure luck..0 -
In general, the following situations are ones where it makes sense to spend HP:
1) Roster slots, up until you start getting nearer to 100 and they start costing as much or more than individual covers (at which point you need to start deciding whether you really want to still be playing this game and/or deleting heroes). The only downside is that eventually they become prohibitively expensive to keep buying.
2) If you're a new player, you've bought some HP, or won some HP, and have a bunch of empty roster slots, and don't mind spending money to get up and running faster, you can buy 10-packs to fill out your 2-star and 3-star lineup quickly. Once you already have a strong 2-star lineup, this becomes much less effective. There's really no downside to this, other than it costing you money. Once you've filled out your 2-star roster, the downside is that you can expect to get mostly repeats. I've never gotten more than a few 3-4's in any 10-packs I've gotten, and most people's experience is similar (or they get a bunch of 3*'s they already have).
3) Health packs, in situations where it makes the difference in placement between getting cover rewards or not, although the amount of packs you get need only be a few before it starts making less sense than buying the cover outright (or waiting for it to come through rotation again). The downside is that there's no guarantee you won't just wipe a couple more times against tough enemies and have wasted HP, and possibly still missed out on whatever you were trying for.
4) Shields, like health packs, if it's a gnarly PvP and you want to protect your ranking, or want to climb higher than you'd be able to unshielded for better progression rewards and placement. The downside is that they aren't a guarantee of placement, and you may need to break shield or shield hop to keep your placement.
5) Hero Covers (upgrades from the training menu). If you're transitioning between any given tier and have some strong heroes who're mostly covered, but need those last covers so that they really shine (or alternatively if you have a weak roster but a few covers in strong heroes), then this can make sense. The downside is that if they're too good, people will shout about them being OP and they'll probably get nerfed (since many players seem to care more about their own instant gratification than whether other players are having fun).
So of all those, roster slots are the safest bet. 10-packs are fine, so long as you have roster space for heroes you get and have a relatively undeveloped roster (i.e. transitioning 1-2* player). After that, the odds are stacked against you, although you may get lucky sometimes. Like 10-packs for 1-2* transitions, buying hero covers can be effective if you research which heroes you're leveling up and think they'll significantly improve your ability to compete. Once you have larger roster diversity this becomes less effective. Shields and health packs, when used right can effectively be seen as a cheaper method of buying covers (i.e. guaranteeing placement or reaching progression rewards), when combined with smart play and shield hops. I used to use those when I played competitively, as it was necessary back then in order to have any chance at winning covers (and probably still is for competitive players).
The reason people strongly recommend roster slots before everything else is because those are the one thing the game never gives you and that you ALWAYS have to buy. You can win covers in game. You can win tokens. But you can't (currently) win roster slots. And they're more permanent, where heroes may be rebalanced or nerfed or made obsolete by new heroes.0
